"Just a game? 5 stages, $2 million cash prize. This isn't game."

So... when did my Gold 2 match become Worlds? I won so I want my $2 million Riot and you can just mail me the 5 stages. I expect an Email by the end of the work week.

Enemy top laner lost his lane so his team raged at him and told us to 'fkg push fkg mid'. We told them to calm down because it is just a game. We all have had players lose. In fact, every single game has a loser. Stop getting pissed about it. It will not help them play better. It will not make you more likely to win. Also, it is just a game. I am not saying that because it is okay to be bad or anything. I am saying it because you should not get so mad about someone losing. It is a game. You are not playing Worlds. There is not $2 million on the line. Calm your ass.

EDIT: I feel as if I could have worded my post better as some people are reading it as no one should take the game serious or I am attempting to devalue your experience. That is not what I meant at all. My entire point is that it is a game and someone doing badly in a game is never a reason to get pissed and rage at them. That is my point. I play ranked. I want to climb. I want to do better. I hate losing. But one thing I hate more than losing is seeing a team group up to attack someone that is playing poorly. I have played matches in which I dominated and I felt bad because I had the honor of reading /all chat hate towards the player I was beating. I have had matches in which I played like trash and got the blunt end of the hate stick.

It sucks. Both being the victim and being a spectator. It is a game and losing in a game is never a valid reason to verbally attack someone.

We could just secretly inject well-executed AI bots into random pvp games (as full 5 teams of course) that are designed to keep all players at a 65-70% win rate.

They would have normal player names like xKiller911x and do normal player things like not buy boots by level 10.

AGmukbooks3 votes

i actually whould appreciate this.. if you can figure out how to do this well then you may be able to find the algorithm that those other bot's in games use.... and than maybe find a way to get rid of them..... or at least see if they really are bots!

.... ...... ........ actually.... what if you put an insignia thing on their summoner icon so that people knew? .... i'm rambling at this point but this seems like a very viable experiment to try out, at least on PBE

We can never do it now. I said it now and knowing that it was happening would ruin it. Its' really important that you feel like you're beating other players, otherwise you would just go play bot games right?

no need, we already get trolled every time we get promos and the servers help ruin win rate anyway.

If everyone loses roughly equal amount of game from trolls, the distributions of ratings would not change if those trolls went away.

So games would be less frustrating perhaps but your rating probably wouldn't be higher.

Also if you are the type of person who never causes the loss on your team you are more likely to win games from trolls than lose - since 4/5 players on your team could be trolls, and 5/5 players on their team could be trolls.

In all seriousness though, trolling, intentionally feeding, toxic players etc are obviously an issue we care a lot about. The solutions we pursue must be ones that scale to a player-base of 67 million+ people. We have a significant amount of people-power dedicated to making this experience better from many angles.

This is a misconception. You have to assume that at least one person on the enemy team is likely similar to you, and will not troll or afk. This would reduce the chance back to 50%

It's silly to just assume that all 5 people on the opposing team are going to be potential trolls. Even if you go with that assumption, a player would need to play thousands of matches for the variance to balance out. Considering that the average player will only play a few hundred games per season, it's not even worth trying to bring this troll percentage up.

It's the same thing people say about afks, yet I can get 3 afks in a ROW on my own team, and go 30+ games without the opposing team having an afk. How is that balanced in any way? Oh yeah... maybe after my 4000th game it will average out... Huzzah.

How am I supposed to climb ranked when I get 3 losses in a row that drop me down a rank due to afks? Then I have to fight the system some more to win my next 3-4 games in a row to get promoted again. People are stuck in elo hell because of afks/trolls/feeders. It's a simple fact.

Lets say you have a win ratio of 50% in non-troll/non-afk matches. Which is what Riot expects... correct? Then you have to factor in all the games where you lose due to AFK/Troll/Feeders. So now your win ratio plummets... but does it ever recover? Sure... again... after thousands of games it might balance.

The typical scenario for me is:

  1. Finally win my promos, move up a rank.
  2. Win/lose a few games... maybe earn a handful of LP along the way
  3. Get 3 afks in a row, and then a 4th game with a feeder troll.
  4. Drop back down a rank.
  5. Rinse and repeat

It is quite literally 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

"This is a misconception. You have to assume that at least one person on the enemy team is likely similar to you, and will not troll or afk. This would reduce the chance back to 50%"

Do you even math or logic?

Any unknown player could be a troll. You can't just assume that someone will be like you and never troll on the enemy team. They could be like you, or they could be a troll. This is a mathematical absolute. The odds are even more in your favor if you duo queue with someone you know isn't going to troll.

The reason you're not climbing is 99.99% of the time not because of trolls/afks/feeders whatever. It's just REALLY hard for people to take responsibility in this game and accept the fact that they just aren't good enough to carry in their current elo. It's so much easier to blame the other 4 people on your team or if you want to count smurfs, the other 9 people in your game.

Yes, there are games that are uncarryable. But if you can't climb out of your elo after a couple hundred games.... it's time to reevaluate if you're really better than your current elo.

How cute. An argument they used to make justifying the old ELO system. under that old system this argument made sense.

Unfortunately they added in a new fail "promotion/demotion" system where now some games matter much more than others. Also even just something as inane as when you win or lose your games outside of the a promotion series can have a fairly dramatic effect on your climb and rating.

So now it really depends on which games people get their trolls in now doesnt it as to how that distribution plays out.

His argument is valid. If you never intentionally lose in solo q, then you have 4 chances of having a teammate intentionally lose, and 5 chances to have an opponent intentionally lose. Try actually refuting the argument next time.

I will say though - the pool of players is large enough that there are probably a few people who get SO unlucky that maybe they're a couple of tiers below where their real skill is - but that's a 1/100000 or 1/1000000 thing

Of course. I just lost my Silver 2 Promo series because of a feeder. Happens to everyone.

It's frustrating of course and we're working hard on solutions.

The tough thing is - I was looking at the guy afterwards with Lyte to try to figure out what happened and..

  • He has a VERY clean account
  • Almost no verbal/language reports
  • A few dozen reports or so total for a few thousand game played
  • No strong indication that he was on a loss streak or something else that could cause him to be more upset
  • He was ALSO in his promo series (wtf man?)

So it's those cases - there's really zero way that a computer system or algorithm could have known that this guy was going to fly off the handle in the game that I was in

**Its not "just a game", however it is "a game"! **

I enjoy league win or lose. Sometimes I play awesome, sometimes I am the best person on the team, and others are making the worst plays , plays even I wouldn't make. Sometimes I'm so awful I feel like I just stated playing again my first day.

I think the thing to point out is, yes there are people who take it seriously and we need to respect that. We should encourage them and wish them luck, in hopes they become the top players they want to be. For some people, league is the only thing that makes their day worth it all.

HOWEVER, we do NOT need to respect being called a million names plus one because we are having a bad game, or losing, because we happen to be with team mates that are serious LOL'ers. That is never right. Raging at the team only ensures your loss. In the games I have seen, ragers only made those who were doing badly play worse. In games where there were jovial, happy and constructive people, many times the team pulled through for the win.

Your team is not your enemy. They are playing a game , same as you. **Just because they don't take it as seriously as you does not mean they want to lose. **Winning is better than losing, weather you play games for fun or not. Just remember that next time you come across a team mate doing badly. Try to be a team mate, not the jerk that makes the game unplayable.

I understand in ranked. I do not have the need to be numero uno in the league world. I don't want to climb any ladders, or be on tv or whatever. I want to play this game that I love, spend time with family and friends, tend the garden, maybe go shopping and get the chores done, and come right back to playing league. It is truly an enjoyable part of my day, and I am fully addicted. So I do not do ranked, ever! **I do have to agree and say that if you are in ranked and have no care or desire for competition and do not take the game as a serious , heavy game, and don't care if its win or lose, then do not do ranked! **

Stay in normals and all the other fun game modes. I wish hexakill were perm. I wish to see that urf mode too, and probably wish it were perm. But even there , there are people who are too angry and too serious! So , to go with my last point , **normals and other game modes are not ranked mode! People come to play a game that is fun, as games are generally meant to be fun. Win or lose it is fun. If you want serious competition, go to ranked! **

But remember, no matter what, there is no excuse to be a jerk. We are only human.

((As for people who intentionally ruin the game, and yes I understand and have seen MANY, just mute report and move on. No use getting your self in trouble because you decided to hit the enter key. Just remember, you can always play again, and your next game will rock!))

Anyone want to play sometime, I am usuallyin ARAM. Super exciting stuff, and fair warning, I am mediocre with most champs, really bad with a few, and if I am lucky, totally kick*** with a couple!

There is only one thing I would add.

I like playing ranked to see how good I am and to play against people my own skill level. What I hate is when someone on my team decides to give up because "there is no hope" or "they are so bad". In Silver I where I am, there is always hope, games can swing very easily. If you truly want to win, you will understand that one person playing badly does not lose the game. Raging at them does lose the game.

I remember one game where I played incredibly badly as support Morgana and fed the enemy teams Vayne (this was probably the worst laning phase I have ever had). Our top lane Garen did very well, but he did not rage. The only thing he said was "We can still win guys". Later in the game the enemy team was trying to siege our nexus turrets (1 inhib down I believe) and I managed to get a dark binding on their Vayne. Garen engaged on that and killed vayne before the binding even wore off. Our team cleaned up on them and maybe 1 of them got away. We ended up winning the game shortly after.

The moral is that the right attitude will actually make you more likely to win. When you rage you are robbing yourself of your chance to win.

Yea, agreed. Like I said, I may not take the game as serious as others (my heads about to explode cause we are losing, and I have to win or else everyone will pay! RAWR!) but that doesn't mean I want to lose. I really dislike when people want to give up or surrender. Never say die! I want to win! But I won't be upset if we don't, at least not to the point where I have to find a reason to be an asshole. Its great when the right attitude and belief can pull you through to the win, and even if you don't win, there isn't such negativity at the post screen. You've learned a lesson, you've been taught some strategies and maybe you'll do better next time.

If a person having a bad game is enough to completely ruin the fun then you are taking it way to seriously. When you have a bad game and your team completely gives up, sits and base and blames you for the loss then they are justified? I am sure you feel the same when you are the target.

Who are you to put values on other people's time? You don't get to decide what is a waste of time to someone else and what is not. That's extremely egotistical.

If I play a game and I enjoy myself and challenge myself and I learn things, then I don't see that as a waste of time at all. If I play a game and I am not enjoying myself, and I can't challenge myself because the game is unfair, and I can't learn anything because I'm just in a constant state of reacting to an enemy team that is steamrolling us due to one of my teammates, then THAT is a waste of my time.

People playing terribly and not communicating and then telling me "it's just a game" are wasting my time. Time that could be used having fun, learning, challenging myself, etc. Instead I get to spend my time reading chat from a troll or trying to argue with someone about team strategies, etc.

You are extremely close-minded if you think only your opinions matter when it comes to what is a good use of SOMEONE ELSE'S time. That's just Cardboard 5 level of dumb.

Who says you can't have fun, learn, or challenge yourself while someone on your team did poorly? Are they wasting your time or are you? Do you have the right to always expect your teammates to perform at their best? Does it give you the right to rage at them for a mistake? Even if you think it does give you the right to rage at them, how on earth is it helpful? For you or your ally?

It is the people who intentionally lose games who are wasting peoples time. And as a refresher the topic was about people raging at their teammates for performing poorly and going afk. So you should probably reevaluate whose time is being wasted and who is really responsible for that.
