I'm looking at League now the same way I look at WoW; Blizzard doesn't like thinking in the past and the game has gone to shit, and while ignoring the playerbase, they're insisting that we don't want to go back either. It's funny, I've been on vanilla servers for quite a while and I'm not bored...hmm, I guess it must have been something that happened to the game to make me hate it, but what do I know? At least with their expansions players come back, even if its only for a short time. You act like videos games not changing at all makes them stay popular. Like would people have really kept playing WoW if they just never added expansions? I assume players more complaining about different aspects of the game they added like dungeon finder or w/e people complain about in WoW. Maybe they should have listened, but to the casual player those different aspects they added made the game easier to pickup and play. Veterans going to cry about it but eventually they quit and Blizzard or Riot needs new revenue from somewhere. So they make changes to get new players interested. Whether WoW changed or not doesn't matter to me as I have played every expansion and get sick of it after a couple weeks. So you can complain about Riot all you want and that is fine, but realize not everyone shares your opinion.
Whether you agree or not whatever Riot is doing has kept this game extremely popular. So by default I would say they are doing just fine until proven otherwise.

The reason why it is not fun anymore, even though it was fun back then, and even though it is the identical experience, is because you changed in that time, and you aren't the identical person anymore. You've had experiences, changed, grown, and evolved.
It always happens to everyone, and so nostalgia only exists to give us a few moments of fondness over what happened in the past; yet we cannot go back into the past to relive what was already lived.

I don't play Dota2 but I find it's tourneys to be far more exciting, far less predictable and alot more enjoyable to watch, than those of Leauge.

The reason why Dota can have patches every 2 months (or was it 6 months?) is because the game is exponentially harder to master than LoL. Any player constantly has massive room to improve themselves. In LoL on the other hand, the most noticeable mechanics are fairly easily mastered.
When your only objective is to improve as a player and not as a team, that would get boring ridiculously quickly.

I hate the new classes, along with everyone else that played before them. All of the new dungeons are less creative than the originals, and the bosses are all easier and hold generally similar mechanics. And I'm still not bored with that game. Especially the PvP, which has hardly changed at all.
Yes, there are things I don't like about their changes, but I don't feel pushed away from the game like I do with League now. League is moving in a negative direction. Its not just nostalgia speaking. They have made objectively bad decisions for the game and continue to move forward with them, even after admitting they were mistakes at times.
In short, your argument is insanely flawed.

its both the benefit and the downside to never making a League of legends 2...small changes over time can go unappreciated and it feels like the same game for extended periods until it isnt...then you are either happy or sad when the changes hit you.
If it was a league 2 you may have had a different mindset...its not 100% but the psychology factor remains.

I started in early 2005, went all the way through Wrath having a blast with a few nitpicky issues with the additions and especially the class balance later on, but overall it was great. Since 2011 I had been playing off and on, not enjoying it anywhere close to how much I did earlier, with every expansion making me dislike WoW more than the last before I stopped completely and haven't played retail since mid-Draenor in 2015.
Earlier, I mentioned how I'm still playing on vanilla servers and not getting bored with them. This is a game I've spent over 11 years playing, but I still find the past versions enjoyable. And why is that? Because it wasn't a case of boredom, it was a case of hatred with developers' idiotic direction with the game. I see these arguments like getting bored with Mario Kart or Elder Scrolls, and then you brought up FF7, but here's the thing - those are single player games. In an online PVP environment, it doesn't get old for me because every game feels different. If I wanted to raid for whatever reason in WoW, of course I'd get bored because I'm doing the same monotonous thing over and over again, but the competitive environment fighting with and against other people has never gotten old.
Edit: Also for the record I started around or a bit after Draven's release.

I'm waiting for the day League looks fun to play again, because for how much I despised the season 6 changes, I gave it a chance and tried to have fun and all it did was piss me off every time I logged in, just like Cataclysm. I'm keeping up with the patches, builds, the meta, strong picks, new team comps, etc. so if/when Riot stops snorting crack before they design/balance, I can jump back into it without having a sense of "future shock."

You don't have the power to demand a change and see it, you only have the power to argue in favor or against changes. Ultimately, it's Riot's decision to make/don't make changes according to their design values. If they don't align with ours, then they're going to make a change how they want or they'll hold off for a while until they manage to find a way to appeal to most people as possible.
Keevalroy2 votesThat's the beauty of Boards though, where Riot can look up who we are and see how much of a background we have with champions and the game in general, and see how faithful people are to their mains or favorites. It also helps with things like the direction of a rework where they can look up two arguing sides to see one is headed by someone who started in season 6 and picked them up, and the other from season 1 who has mained said champion throughout the seasons, and ideally, they'd be more apt to listen to the more experienced player. The same can be said about art direction. The longer someone has spent with something, the more attached they get, and that should be taken into consideration.

We got an entire map update that made SR not look like a PS1 game. We got crafting that actually gives a ton of free shit for...well, free. We have a client update by the end of the year after years of waiting. Champions are boundlessly complex in kit, aesthetic and overall work compared to years ago. Champion reworks actually solve problems rather than just shifting the problem.
Is League perfect? Of course not. But there is a ton of good Riot -has- done that people conveniently ignore and only lament about "ugh I miss the old days"

Like yea... its not perfect but shit is def better now than it used to be. People get so hung up on good memories they forget all the old things they used to qq about.
If Riot patched the game back to say season 4 or season 5 (ok yes solo/duo queue would be sweet) people would be sad. I know I would be bored as fuck like... yea I might not play all the new champions but the game would seem so dull. Some people strive better in certain metas I get that but honestly I can't remember any season worth going back to. I don't agree with all of the changes but the game still feels fresh to me. If nothing ever changed what would be the point of continuing to play?

Of course they matter because they've warped the entire game's balance around their existence adding insane free power to champions who were already strong without ridiculous masteries pushing them way over the top. Keystones ruined any hope that League can be balanced and need to be removed as soon as possible, or as soon as Riot collectively pulls their swollen heads out of their asses.

Again, I disagree, but it's not like it should stay there. My ideal fantasy is Riot reverting back to the very start of season 4 and asking themselves "what went wrong from here" and re-designing the following season with new information in mind. I know it won't happen, but I like to dream.

All they've done, not even counting the shit-fest that is Dynamic Queue, is completely fuck up matchmaking for everyone, including normals, and completely fuck up balance with keystones. Way stronger offensive masteries with obscenely weaker defensive masteries doesn't help either.

Dragons were always worth taking, just because they are now mandatory doesn't mean dragons were never worth taking, they added 1500 to any team who took one, which was pretty large, but didn't give ridiculous buffs that would help the game become even more ridiculously snowbally and add gaps that can never be reduced or countered regardless of strategy.
Keystone masteries are overbearing and the reason tank-assassins and instadelete 0 management/strategy playstyle is a thing.
What you call freshness I call spazzyness, I couldn't give a damn about new champion release as I know they almost always add more overbearing garbage to the game.
Most major sports in the world have barely changed over the last decades, have people lost interest in them? Why muck up something when you already manage to bring it close to a state of greatness, just for the sake of "freshness". Bah.

I guess not you can actually see/feel the impact of taking dragons instead of gold. Riot wanted to make taking dragons different than just taking towers. Def a +. Buffs only ridiculous when you get 2-3 of the same. If your team gets 5 dragons you deserve to have a nice advantage. Gold wears off overtime but dragon buffs stick with a team even in long games. Old dragons were crap just admit it.

Since Riot doesn't exactly release the numbers it hard to say exactly how the game's popularity has changed over time. Its all speculation really. Yes, Riot has made some dumbass changes. But in the end the game is still the same game. It might take some time to adjust to the changes but you would still recognize the core of the game no matter how much time you take off playing it.
