Funny....you say you were fired for no reason. Did he actually GIVE you one, and in your arrogance you decided it wasn't a real reason? In Retail work-ethic is amazing. Speaking as someone who's spent many years in it I LOVE it when I finally have a co-worker who can haul ass and do the job without complaints and whining or being lazy. I get sick of watching 18-20 year-olds wander on in, work hard for a few weeks, then just decide to stop and wander around the store doing nothing, making my work-load greater because they're lazy.
However work-ethic isn't all there is. If your attitude is shit, then after a point even your work-ethic loses value. I've known multiple people who were exactly that way: they worked their asses off, but their behavior is so rage-filled, obnoxious, or otherwise bad that it's just not worth it to keep them around because yeah, they work, but THEY DRIVE YOU NUTS DOING SO. They poison entire teams and departments with a shitty personality.
The comment about how you're taller and larger than him also make for interesting reading. Why is that even important? Bosses are bosses. Some are good, some are bad, some are incredibly inept. There's no unwritten rule that says you have to look like The Incredible Hulk to be a manager or supervisor.
As far as the current generation goes, maybe they're not trying because they weren't handed the tools? In my day the emphasis was always that we could shoot for the moon if we wanted to. They endlessly built up our egos to remind us that we could do anything as long as we got an education. Except...no one ever told us how to build the rocket.
The reason you see newer generations being apathetic is not just because of instant gratification and such, but because real life came crashing down on them and they were never prepared for it. We as a culture never prepared them for it. We just shunted them out of our shitty public school-systems and told them to make their own ways. We had a hand in our own problems. We crammed dull, dry, literary 'classics' down their throats so badly that now they won't even pick up a newspaper to see what's going on in the world. We made them take advanced mathematics and science, simply saying 'this is what you need to COMPETE!', without teaching them the real-world things that all that stuff quantifies. We forced them to learn, without teaching them HOW to learn, which includes but is not limited to learning from their mistakes.
I understand what you mean. I do. If I'm playing like shit, go ahead and press the button at 20. I'll be happy to surrender because I KNOW I'm playing like shit. But I know that. Raging at me isn't going to make things any better. Same goes for anyone else. Sure, pop the surrender button. If they don't surrender, then yeah, I can see where it sucks.
But don't sit there and tell them to hang themselves. It's just gonna make them defensive or play worse. Sure it's bad, but that's not even the worst point. You talk about not wasting time, right? That's literally wasting your time and your energy. Had you said nothing and simply raised the vote again after he died or you lost ANOTHER objective, he might have said yes. Instead you called him some profane names and now he's either trolling or raging back at you and REFUSING to surrender. Good job, you're now wasting more time, and it's your fault as much as his.
