I assume it grabs all the match lengths that it can, but probably is unable to access all your match history. But then, it couldn't possibly know how long you've spent in queue or browsing the store or messing with other features (such as Runes and Masteries). I'm actually surprised it says the average is over 1k hours; player retention is pretty damned good lol
