The community just continues to plummet and get worse and worse.

Just had a match where I was Ashe. I was doing terrible because they had so many ways to get to me, it didn't matter how safe I played. Especially Fizz, who goes in and out as he pleases. Good ol' Riot with their forgiving mechanics on assassins. Anyway, I'm doing awful. This Thresh is telling me to kill myself, hang myself, I'm shit, I'm useless, I'm a troll, etc. and my team is witnessing this and doesn't even tell him to stop. It was putting me down, making me feel worse than I already did for being so easy to pick off and unable to contribute anything to the team fight.

Come game end, Thresh says I'm a troll in all chat and my team decides to agree with him. DESPITE the fact he was telling me to kill myself, and harassing me relentlessly. Of course, the enemy team didn't care. It seems like the community is so eager to jump in whenever someone's getting bashed. I rarely ever see someone defending another. I'll even step out to tell someone to stop and leave someone alone when harassment is going on. Then somehow, it fuels the fire and directs the flaming at me along with the victim. Occasionally, even the VICTIM will flame me.

What the hell has happened to this game? I see so many repeated offenders in my games, especially ones that use sexist, homophobic and racial slurs. Are the 'good' players getting punished and banned instead? I rarely ever see a good person anymore. Instead, it's always a witch hunt to find and attack the player that's either performing the worst or makes one comment, good or bad. I've been playing months before the first season started, yet this community and the way Riot handles things ( on top of balancing ) just really makes me want to quit for good. But it's so hard to when I've spent so much money on my account, that it'll just go to waste.

Why do I have a feeling it's the same person on multiple accounts posting random threads on the forums about someone telling them to kill themself? Rather it's the same person or one person posted an original thread and now all of a sudden anyone who has ever been told to go kill themself is showing up to post threads on the subject,

The only reason I don't tell people off for bad behavior in this game is that I usually mute all from the start and communicate via pings, just so I don't have to deal. And lately, I've just been playing all-bot customs (so chances are if and when I return to PvP, my skills are going to be crap.)

FWIW, it isn't just this game. It seems to be happening on DOTA2 as well. The MOBA community in general seems to be getting a bit too big for its britches. If the community doesn't knock this crap off, F2P MOBAs won't be very profitable, since new players will end up discouraged and quitting. Then MOBAs will end up going the way of the dinosaur. Then we'll all wish we'd been a little bit nicer and more sportsmanlike to each other.

Also I realize I could've muted him, but I'd rather know what he said so I know what to put in his report. Also muting him wouldn't have made me feel any better when my shitty plays are being magnified verbally.

How can you say that the community is bad when Lyte says that less than 1% of all players exhibit ANY TYPE of toxic behavior??

Foxymillion1/4/2015, 9:43:12 PM2 votes

this games community is worse than CODs just got a 2nd ranked ban for littaraly saying nothing people just report you for trying to remind them to ward or play safe, not to mention i get reported by enemy team just because i won against them kinda sad really but w/e if riot wants to let false reports ruin there fanbase let it there are THOUSANDS of other games out there for me to play

CaesarFlickerman1/5/2015, 5:59:43 AM2 votes

Not that I defend or agree with the Thresh's actions, but your inability to viscerally play this game is a problem.

Words on a computer screen from a stranger should NEVER have a psychological effect on you. EVER.

Duo with me man. I feel exactly what you mean. I was playing this Lucian game the other day, and I was doing really badly. I kept saying sorry to let everyone down, etc. come end game, everyone started blaming my support. Idk how it's the supports fault that I had a bad game. I defended the Leona, and guess what, she started flaming me. I just don't understand why people feel the need to be (and im quoting here) 100% dick

nerak231/5/2015, 2:27:35 AM2 votes

I defend it Every time in Every game I play ! Never once got reported for calling someone out on them being an Ass... You know why ? Because I say it once to each of their nasty remarks and say it nice. I never bother to defend myself I only agree with them and laugh.. Works !

It is a sad thing to have people on here defending the Jerks would do nasty things like OP is talking about.

nerak231/5/2015, 12:59:08 PM2 votes

seriously what kind of grown man tells on someone? 'mommy! this man was mean to me!' have some self respect.

A gown man has no need to tell people to off themselves !! If a mature person says it to anyone at Anytime there is something wrong with said person !!

I will "tattle" on them every time. Don't use that garbage that 'oh, your a baby care bear' Shit !! It is wrong and no decent person should defend it END OF STATEMENT !!!!

I am sorry that you had to experience this, but things like this seem all too common in LoL, unfortunately. However, this seems more like a grief post than anything. Instead of simply complaining, we should be thinking about how we can remedy this issue, as well as committing ourselves to be outstanding members of the community. In any game, only a small percentage of the population actively uses the forums, but it is best to keep in mind that one million begins with one. Again, sorry you had to go through this, and thanks for posting. If nothing else, I am sure you've started meaningful conversations in the comments.

Love and hugs, Hecate

I agree the community is terrible, but not muting someone after a certain point makes no sense other than to make you more angry. I still contend that the poor rating system in Ranked for Solo queue is a primary culprit for the raging. If someone really is a lot better than another player, no offense to you, then they are forced to grind their way up. Ever since that Chinese company bought Riot I feel there is also a heavy shift towards profitability as opposed to game play experience. There is practically a troll every other game.

Eleshakai1/5/2015, 1:08:16 PM1 votes

Riot scared off a lot of nice people recently... so I suppose the community did get worse.

But I still doubt it's as bad as some claim.

I haven't seen the game community get much worse :) I agree with you when you say you doubts it's worse. Here is my point: some people attract trash talk ! By the way they communicate with others in the game and on the boards.

But this in No way ever makes it okay to tell others to kill themselves. Sorry that was for others reading and not at you.

Mute function is great, if you don't understand it's a game and what people say over the internet is just a reflection of what they think of themselves. If you come understand this, it's kind of sad, I pity them. Best thing is to do ignore and move on, not everyone in this community is common, best of luck!

Bardsbard1/6/2015, 5:27:08 AM1 votes

its because people who TRY to be friendly to everyone eventually snap and get tired of being told off when they are in a game even if they did something to someone or not

I would get A TON of satisfaction in knowing if my reports amounted to any sort of punishment.... but everyone said that that encouraged which hunting, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Elfan1/4/2015, 11:50:30 PM1 votes

I feel the same way. I get bashed in team select if someone else doesn't like the champion I am playing or where I want to go. Then in the game if I'm not the best player on the team I get name called and harassed the whole game. Yelling at me isn't going to make me any better. It makes me perform worse. Then, everyone yells to report me cause I'm a "troll" when I'm not trolling. I'm just not the best at the game. I can report people, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Then I went into a second game and got matched with the same people. Maybe some kind of filter where if I reported someone dont match me with them 2 minutes later to be on the same team again would be helpful.

PL551/5/2015, 1:31:35 AM1 votes

It's just that this community can be immature a lot of the time and it's largely due to the fact it's done on the internet. It is expected you should be respectful to a stranger unless they are being rude to you. But all these values are completely forgotten when a tween, teen, or young adult sits in front of a computer and gets matched with 9 other people in a game.

AxlStream1/5/2015, 2:11:35 AM1 votes

Out of everyone here who is positive towards the OP. How many "victims" have you sided with today? I tend to find that all the good intentions on the forums usually amount to naught once in-game. High road on the forums, neutrality or low road in game.

nerak231/5/2015, 2:36:21 AM1 votes

I have been chat restricted for calling someone out :/ After a stupid conversation with the support ticket guy that told me I did nothing wrong, I went on boards to ask Lyte. He said that there was a spike in toxicity...by me telling someone to calm the fuck down ffs.

Now see their in lies the difference :) I never tell anyone to 'calm the Fuck down'. I say it in a nice but firm way....In your case, I wouldn't say anything bad to you or report you for saying that in response to to calling someone out.

But comes a time where enough is enough. If people are getting punished for Not letting abuse happen then something is wrong and needs to be fixed.

Only part of this i really found strange was that it's a Thresh, the person who's supposed to be pulling Fizz off you, getting mad about you dying to Fizz. Was he just doing the "silver Leona" thing, flying into the enemy team while you fend for yourself?
