I played a match with a friend. I went Draven and she went support Thresh. We get into match and it is immediately obvious we will have no trouble bot lane so she decides to build exactly what I build. It was fun seeing Thresh with ADC items and we were kicking ass... and then our mid lane decides to say "Thresh needs to stick to bots" and when asked why they said "If you want to troll matches go to bots so you don't fuck your team." Again, we were dominating bot lane (BF at 5 minutes. IE at 10 minutes) but mid still felt the need to attack her for having fun and not building support. We won the match and in post mid made sure to remind her that she was 'reported for trolling' and should never leave bots.

I had an adc TF one match. I wasn't excited about it but it was teambuilder so I didn't care. Holy shit top lane bitched and moaned all game about how useless and troll adc tf is. Told him to just leave the game and uninstall. TF hadn't even died at this point. He was slightly behind in cs but he was doing fine. I guess that doesn't matter though. Not 'meta'? Attack the person playing it. Relentlessly.

I had a jungler refuse to ready up in teambuilder because support was Fiddlesticks. Again with this "go play bots" attitude. When Fiddlesticks said "I like Fid support" jungler said "No you don't. It is trash and you are a troll". Who the fuck are you to tell someone else what they do and do not like? If someone wants to play support tank Azir then they have every right to. As long as their intention is not to lose then what does it matter? I have won ranked games with Jayce/J4 and Annie/Panth bot lane. Sure as fuck isn't meta but it worked and I think it was largely due to the fact that no one berated them for playing it.

You do not get to tell people what is fun and what they are allowed to do in this or any game. As long as they are not breaking Riot's rules then they can do whatever they want.

Don't bother yourself over what those people say. They're too afraid to play ranked, so they tryhard in normals.

The best part is when the enemy team is the one bitching at you.

Once won as Soraka on-hit AS devourer-BORK (before sated was a thing) jungle against Rek'Sai (pre-nerf :'( ), Fizz, and Nidalee.

The salt was delicious.

Played Support Caitlyn in ranked due to several misunderstandings on my part on who was playing ADC. The person who legit got ADC was decently upset about my decision, at first he left me alone bot lane by myself while he stole the enemy jungler. Eventually he came bot and told me to play Support while he farms. After awhile he calmed down as i explained it was an accident and me and him carried bot lane. He was advising me on what to do and we were on a friendly tone for the rest of the game.

So why did i share this story? Well when the guy finally calmed down and realized that he was better off making this work rather then bitching the whole game, we actually pulled through. Btw i was rocking them traps lol Idk how many engages i stopped by trapping their ADC.

The whole point of teambuilder is to have a say in which champions you get on your team. Otherwise fine post.

I play "troll builds" all day, I was doing AP malphite way before riot made comments about it and then changed his kit to support it... I go AS Leona in any lane (jg too) and cant be shut down as well as AS Thresh top, AS Braum, JG Braum, AD Braum.... Trundle Support, AP Warwick Supp/Mid with 75mag pent, Magic Pent Zilean, AP Nunu.... I used to JG cait before they made it almost impossible... Everytime I pick a champ though, I know it can counter the lane I am possibly fighting and everytime despite a quick explanation of my choices its Report this Troll... Dodge... Argueing, or the players that AFK in ranked because they have never seen it, never played with me and instantly know it wont work... despite my match history showing insane amounts of carry with whatever role it is...

The problem is the players

everyone thinks they are going to go pro from the solo queues

no one thinks its a game

Bronze and Silver queues do not get you famous on twitch

One thing I have noticed consistently is that when you play outside the meta, the other team can not handle it

90% or more of the players have been conditioned to think that the only way to play the game is 1 top 1 jg 1 mid and two bot...

My wife and I will do insane meta combinations (some we feel we may have originated) and everytime its met with hostility... especially this one time we went ADC/SUPP mid and everyone on both sides was like... .fight fair...

THERE IS NO FAIR IN LEAGUE FIGHTS

People are so obsessed with winning and so insecure in the own abilities they immediately attack anyone that so much as steps outside the current meta solely to divert attention from their own lacking competence. People are fools, and should be treated as such; if you know what you are doing then mute them and carry on carrying,

I once had a Lulu jungle and you know what, we almost won, and the reason we lost was, in fact, the Tryndamere top who began intentionally feeding after he lost his lane.

I think a lot of this off meta hatred comes from all the people who troll normal games. It happens so often that when some people see an off meta pick or build they instantly assume the person is trolling.

It really is a huge issue. There are tons of off meta picks I want to have fun with in normals but I'm afraid of getting flamed for picking them.

As long as you're trying to win it shouldn't matter what you're playing.

Teambuilder it's fine because everyone's ok with it.

But if you lock-in jg Nami in ranked and literally never gank because you have to recall after every single camp (and yes I have seen people do jg Nami and it takes them about 20 minutes to get runeglaive with zero gank pressure) then don't expect a friendly response.

i get this in almost half of my ranked games playing morde... the supports don't even bother trying to do something yesterday i had a support that refused to grab leona and went nami instead then just stood still at tower ofc we lost we could have won gloriously but no they had to just moan and bitch that i wasn't jinx...

You are being very disingenuous with your argument by prefacing it with the team mates being toxic and rude, while the creative snowflake players are playing well.

Well if you look at this subject more objectively, no you don't get to go into a team game and do what ever you like if it's going to screw your allies over. Your enjoyment does not come at the expense of others. There is some courtesy expected out of a team orientated game to play within the meta.

And there is a difference between playing outside the meta and straight up trolling. Jayce/J4 bot is outside the meta but works well as a kill lane. It's actually not that outlandish at all. Tank Azir, disco Nunu, Leona top, Nami adc is playing a champion for your own enjoyment at the expense of your team. Poeple especially tend to do this when they don't get the lanes they wanted initially. If you pick troll champions and do badly, you deserve to be called out for it.

Lmao I haven't taken flash in literally months and I still moved from gold to plat and pull off plays that wouldn't normally be possible without replacing flash. My point is the people who go out of there way to praise and push the meta and probably the type of people youll find in a cult. I gotta say though winning with no flash and then letting someone know that I used a full scaling rune page and still beat their meta copied build pick.

I wholly agree with the OP. The point of a game is to have fun and enjoy yourself. Hell, my friend and I play ADC Nami/Support Ahri, AP MF/Anivia bot lane. We actually very rarely lose games where we play something 'off meta.' If I'm going to play LoL, I want to enjoy playing it. Just because I don't necessarily play something you see often in a different role means that I'm not trying to win the game. I'm playing to win the game and have fun while winning. Back in Season 3 I got to Plat Playing ADC Thresh/Volibear bot with a buddy of mine. If you enjoy doing it, you're more likely to win the game because if you're enjoying yourself, the game is generally much less stressful or frustrating and messing around just over all makes for a more light hearted experience.

I agree with you for the most part. People should be allowed to play whatever they want especially in normals and teambuilder etc. Where i take issue with it is in ranked que. Allow me to explain. Ranked que is for people who want to take the game seriously, and as such, certain expectations are not unreasonable. For example its fine to take tf adc in ranked mainly because while it isnt very good it CAN work. It is not okay to say, take poppy adc in my opinion. Sorry but playing something that CAN NOT work is trolling and to my mind that is the same as intentional feeding, and in some cases even worse.

I can't agree enough with this.

As someone who semi-regularly plays the most bizarre jungle picks in League of Legends, it's really painful to go into a queue and have someone not support my decision to play who I want. Thankfully most people I end up playing with either let me do thing in the jungle (in some cases getting surprisingly hyped for my jungle pick) or leave without harassing me for my jungle pick, but not everyone is like that.

What's funny about this, is that even though ADC TF was behind in CS, his passive probably made up for it.

I like it when people are innovative, as long as they aren't genuinely trolling. If you AP Riven, then... you MIGHT be trolling.

I love it when people break the meta because 9/10 times the meta breakers carry their games. me as Lulu Sup and my ADC Vayne had to deal with ADC MissFortune and ADC Caitlyn..we lost lane...hard. We still won the game but it just goes to show that anything can work if you at least put some time into mastering it..or getting decent. :D

BTW the Support Tank Azir sounds fun, i might try it sometime xD

TF as ADC works great if you know how to play it correctly.

Fiddlesticks support is OP as hell in some matchups, but really weak in others.

Imo, the people who rage at off-meta picks are those that only have fun though winning. When they feel that their chances of victory are threatened by this off-meta pick, they get angry.

Not sure if it's because I've gotten into higher ranks since I started playing a year ago, or if it's because off-meta picks are getting more common, but I've been experiencing much more acceptance for my weird picks. (4 Rod of Ages + Seraph's Kassadin; The late game is amazing)

Sometime wierd builds are fun. My friend played AP Support Renekton. WIZARD LIZARD. It actually WORKED. We dominated lane and won. People need to chill their jets unless it is ranked. If it is normals, just let it go
