Help finding a discussion @Riot or anyone else

Hello,

I am in the midst of having a brain baby on some support ideas I've been having, but I cannot seem to find a particular discussion that Riot gave at some point.

The discussion went along the lines of "ADC's and Mages back to buy items; Supports don't need to do this, so we made Sightstone refill on back rather than recharge so that Supports have a chance to buy items."

I would LOVE it someone could help me find this discussion so that I can better assess my ideas.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure that discussion happened before season 6 and the different sightstone upgrades. I'm not certain it would still be relevant.

I found the warding Dev Blog though http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/page/escape-darkness-low-elo-warding-and-you

Not quite what I was looking for but thank you. Would love to see an updated version of that post. Im trying to find the post where Riot argued against a recharging sightstone because supports would never go back to base if it recharged. Again, thank you for your time. Imma keep looking. XD

hmm, this one is closeish http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/ydueyEpB-meddler-do-you-think-sightstone-will-get-a-lookover-in-preseason-6?comment=0001

tbh I don't remember them stating supports were the problem. It was that supports have no 'forced summoner spell' (like smite on jg) so they have no way to stop others (like but not limited to Lee Sin) from abusing the item. They wanted to make it so there was always the possibility of clawing back vision while the support backed if the team wasn't helping them. Otherwise the support would just keep adjusting the ward line; there'd be no real fog, just a support patrolling the river with a banana-cannon lol.

I saw this post and I agree that making Sightstone widely unappealing but nice for supports was a daunting task. There have been several discussions on summoners being tied to support items (a ward summoner with an Exhaust/Heal active item being one I remember). The thing I am looking for has to do specifically with whether or not supports should have to go back to base to restock their wards. I think that the whole support experience problem could be fixed or helped if they didnt have to back to get wards.

I don't think it would. Supports don't back any more often than the laners do. You could check it in people's match histories when they buy items per role in the game (it shows how many backs they did since everyone buys something when they back, even if only switching trinkets or getting a control ward).

The problem is that where they go has minimal/no exp gains due to the kill radii on everything. Even warding Tribush will make you fall behind on exp if you don't plan it out.

Good points. Although, as a support main I can definitely say that I have backed to get wards many times. XD

One thing I would like is if I could roam mid lane and proc relic shield a few times without stealing exp from my midlaner. That has gotten me yelled at a few times and I think its bs....
