Hey, I got a question for Beck, Ma and Merril.
When you look in the mirror, and see this greedy, shitty person... do you feel good about that?
When you look in the mirror, and see this greedy, shitty person... do you feel good about that?
If you are going to ask them that question you might as well ask anyone who has started a company every. They made League of Legends to make money... And thats exactly what they are doing.
Okay, I can ask Iwata or Yamauchi about Nintendo. They TURNED DOWN MASSIVELY PROFITABLE BUSINESS DEALS TO STICK TO WHAT THEY BELIEVED WAS RIGHT... and then they died, and the new CEO turned Nintendo into another shitty company.
Not every company is run by a pile of shit person. And there's a difference between making money and being a greedy asshole.
If you want to look at it like that I guess.. But I can almost guarantee that Nintendo was turning over a killer profit all the same, its admirable that they turned down this massive profit you speak of, but most companies aren't like that.. Most people are selfish (human nature), and if they can convince themselves there is nothing wrong with what they are doing then they will generally do it.
Meril / Beck etc. have made (or at least started) a fantastic and very successful game, why shouldn't they reap the rewards? You don't have to buy skins etc if you don't wamt to.. It doesn't help you play the game in any way?
There's a difference between making money and being a greedy asshole. Nintendo actually gave a damn about their games, and so they still made money without being greedy. That's why they were the biggest and best gaming company for many years (it's almost like quality trumps quantity. Huh.).
And yeah, I don't have to buy skins. But I still have to pay the price for the game being F2P:
Balance is dictated by what's the most profitable state, not what's the most fair.
Champs that are absurdly broken are ignored, or in Lee's case, Riot openly admits he's broken but says he won't be significantly nerfed because he makes money.
Champ updates, which would take a college team a week, take Riot a year or more.
Bug fixes are sparse. Riot even went so far as to say some bugs, like Jayce's hammer bug, aren't even worth their attention.
Riot lies left and right and makes double standards to protect their money makers.
and so on.
F2P is, by far, the most profitable business model in gaming. But, in an F2P game, the quality suffers dramatically. Whales are happy since they can just blow money all over the place and feel good about themselves, but real gamers lose out.
