Bots just made for a terrible first ever league match for my buddy

And I am not talking about enemy bots. He did a beginner bot match. First EVER league match. first MOBA. 2 of his teammates were bots. They had automated responses whenever a teammate got a kill (became obvious when they repeated the same 4 phrases in the exact same order over and over), they followed one of the other players for random amounts of time then switched. When I say they followed I mean if my friend moved a step left the bots made the exact same move with every single click he made. They both bought the exact same items at the exact same time, never helped kill anything and blindly pathed into towers for no reason.

Both my friend and another player on the team were clearly brand new to league. The only reason they didn't lose it the Kat on his team was a smurf. Needless to say, he hated his intro to league.

I've only experienced them in Dominion so far, thank the Lord, but it's still rather frustrating when you lose a beginner bot dominion game because you are the only person on your team trying to take points.

Bots have been a problem for so long. The sad thing is, because they don't really affect anyone at level 30, nor do they appear in ranked, not to mention the fact that a botter can create a new LoL account in a minute or so, nothing seems to happen and the problem is hard to fix.

Still, better than my first Dota 2 match.

Actually they do appear in Ranked games... while I haven't personally experienced it, there are threads here from people who have. They also appear in Normals as well, something I've experienced, and something that has affected other level 30 players. I just don't understand how something so silly can get through and not be stopped by Riot or whoever is in charge of such things. Red flags need to be going off at HQ when someone suspects or knows someone is a bot.

Ah, so it seems the bastards are spreading. I'll be honest though, I haven't seen a bot in my Coop VS AI games in a while. Then I switch to my level 29 account and poof, bot.

One thing that could help is the ability to report players as bots. I mean, the behavior is quite obvious for a lot of bots.

The reporting idea is great but like every system, it would get abused quickly. I don't know much about how bots work but I'm assuming they have a consistent pattern, something they always follow. So if we had a system in place that checked for those repeats, either by some very detail oriented report system or something, then things could start changing. I'd also like there to be some sort of harsh(er) punishment for bot users, like idk, IP bans or something of the sort cause it's always the same people who, like you said, just take minutes to make bot accounts.

Or maybe they can implement something to where you have to prove you're not a bot before you log in or before you play a game. IDK, bots aren't just a problem in League so I'd like to be rid of them in all games everywhere.

Most bots do have a rather obvious pattern. Always the same spells, generally the same behavior.

Which is why the program the OP mentioned is ingenious. It got around any normal AI detection routine by mimicking a real life player.

In a way it does and doesn't... I've been playing Beginner Bots to learn some new champions and have been running into these guys a LOT more often the past week.

It takes a moment to realize what they're doing and constantly confuse me at the beginning of a match when I want to try to run Janna support and we end up 3 bot... I ended up Mid. Soon you realize even though he's not feeding, he is there, he is buying items but otherwise not doing a whole lot and does not communicate at all. But I know by the end it doesn't effect the game, I still get XP and IP and learn something new on a new champion I've never played.

How does it effect Level 30? Unskilled ranked players, IP dilution etc. These Bots farm IP and XP to get someone to 30 ASAP saturating ranked with people who may never or rarely actually play the game.

Okay, we get it, we all get it Dota 2 is so fucking difficult. Can we just let bygones be bygones and complain about the real things like how Sona's ass isn't big enough?

That's actually not what I meant. My first Dota 2 game, against AI bots, was filled with one friend and 3 really hostile players who told me to kill myself when I gave up first blood. Not my fault I was alone in the bottom lane, asking for assistance.

My first dota 2 match went really really wrong. It was the first MOBA i had played and i fed so hard as some hero with little to no damage. i got reported by every member of my team and got raged on hard. It was bad, i didn't play Dota for the rest of the beta lol.

I know what he meant. So what if people in bot games use scripts? That's not his problem. Once he gets to around 30 and plays some normals, they won't show up nearly as much or at all. Your friend shouldn't be getting his first impressions of a game from its bot mode. How many people do you see quitting games because they didn't enjoy its tutorial?

Your friend shouldn't be getting his first impressions of a game from its bot mode. How many people do you see quitting games because they didn't enjoy its tutorial?

This had nothing to do with the discussion. People don't hack or script in tutorials. Games, even bot games, are no fun if people are scripting. Try to show some empathy, or at least try.

A new player had his experience ruined by illegal cheating in the game. He shouldn't have to "get over it." That's just cold. I'm not saying you should be a shining beacon of sunshine, but use a little tact.

The saying goes "Don't do unto others as you would have others do unto You." Have empathy here. These are new players. they aren't the only story here. In fact, getting to thirty as you mentioned earlier would be something akin to a living hell if all their games were like this. They probably will be. Who the hell in their right mind would stay?

Much like how one could have a sense of humor while not finding a particular joke funny, one can also have a sense of empathy without finding a particular scenario worthy of empathy

Empathy is not something to given, but rather to have. A situation cannot be worthy or unworthy of empathy. You either have empathy for the situation or you don't, and for this situation, you clearly don't.

I'm not saying you should or you shouldn't, just that you don't.

Actually in the case of free games, if I don't enjoy the tutorial then I skip out on the rest of the game. If the makers aren't interested in making their first impression of the game good then I don't expect them to have done a good job with the rest. Why keep going with something that isn't fun?

it is against the the rules to use scripts and bots.
It is his problem because it directly effected him.
Bots are in every game mode at every level. Even ranked.
Co-op vs AI isn't the game's tutorial. Many many players use it as their primary game mode because it is relaxed and stress free.

Point is, 2 accounts were doing something that broke the rules and it made for a shitty first experience with the game.

I personally only see them once in a great while when I go for a quick and easy first win off int bots, but mostly I'm either playing with high silvers and golds with the occasional plat mixed in within Draft norms que... or on the smurf account I'm literally facing other smurfs the overwhelming majority of the time and they are unlikely to show up in either location. I do stay away from Dominion though, that place is thoroughly infested.

But yes, there are several varieties I've had the displeasure to encounter and they can be exceedingly annoying. Most annoying I've personally encountered is basically a boat anchor tied around your waist because it follows you (and thus steals xp) automatically autos anything in the area (thus stealing some CS or pushing wave when it isn't warranted) and backs when you do to stay as attached as possible.

Did you make him play the tutorial? Have you considered playing a custom game with him to explain how to click and move, how to back, how to buy items, and whatnot?

I hope I don't come across as rude, but a custom game would really help introduce him to core concepts of gameplay in League.

I was just playing some custom bot matches with my friend to try out the champions in this weeks free rotation. One thing I hate about bots is that they have no concern for their life. Whenever we got into their vicinity they would just simply charge us and it was so annoying. We couldn't farm off minions and I just got pissed off. They chase you to your tower then they back off and continue farming off minions. Then all of a sudden, they are level 6 while your still level 3 because you didn't have much chance to farm. They were on intermediate but it seemed like our team was automatically losing.

Play against that and poke them down first. Bots are free gold.

EDIT: I mean the Riot Bots. Fuck the real botters. I hope they die in a fire.

The problem with bots is that fixing them is nearly impossible...

There will ALWAYS be ways to automate the scripting so Riot can't make botting impossible(and I'd be willing to bet that Riot is constantly altering minor bits of the code to make it more difficult already). New accounts are free and easy to sign up for so banning them is redundant... and as long as gifting is a thing, bots will always have relevance.

There's really no way to stop botting, except to either make the game pay to play(which still probably wouldn't stop them since the amount of money they're making would probably exceed the costs - look at WoW) or to have the game use a universal ID like it does in Korea.

Not saying either of those are GOOD ideas, but those are really the only ways to stop botting. It's unfortunate, but true.

It seems like whenever I play an ARAM game all the other players are bots. When I have a long ranged AOE mage like Xerath or Velkoz it isn't too bad because they're so predictable, but literally any other champion type and it gets unbearable. They all move to the exact same position so their textures overlap and they can do some insane burst damage since they all attack the same target at the same time.

These bots need to go.

I know Riot can't stop bots. Bots are in every game. I just wish there was something Riot could do to make bots less frequent in new player matches. I can't imagine wanting to continue playing as a new player if there are bots on your team. There is so much to learn in this game. No reason to make it harder with scripted bots screwing you over.

Sadly, if there was any way to accomplish this, then they'd have the tools to stop the bots from being in the game altogether.

If they could detect them well enough to ensure new players didn't get stuck wtih them, then they could detect them well enoguh to ban them right away...

Bots are the main reason I don't play 3v3... one time I was in a game of pure bots it was me 2 bots versus 2 other guys and one bot,i carried the game only because I used the bots as meat shields.... im not lying....never played 3v3 again after that

It is what it is. Riot MIGHT start caring about new players when they actually start seeing significant numbers of players leaving the game, but they aren't. This game has MILLIIONS of level 30 players playing every day across the world. A couple thousand newbies can try the game and quit every day and it won't even register as a drop in the bucket. They just have to buy EXP boosts, slog through to level 30, and then pat themselves on the back for having stuck with it.

I lost an intermediate bot game because the bot team had a lot of hard-scaling champs and our soraka support was a bot that latched onto our Jinx (who wasn't very good herself). So it was essentially a 3v5 that we couldn't beat.

Another one had me as the ADC and I showed our Tryn jungle how my support just followed me without a word, even moving away from the creep wave bot lane. We both laughed it off and won, though it's still annoying to have these types of bots in games.
