How is Riot successful in the slightest?

They lie to our faces left and right, and put out shitty quality... yet people praise them and whales throw money at them? I don't get it.

10+ years ago, we would have actually laughed Riot out of the industry. What changed?

Because they made a great game and keep delivering new content. Plus, spending money is 100% optional, which is rare these days, and if you spend money, the skind you can get for it are also really nice.

Some of the playerbase actually enjoy the game. I prefer to only play norms, and I play them with friends 95% percent of the time because I actually like playing it.

Don't forget that only a fraction of the player base uses the boards, and lots of them come to complain about the game, so opinions here might be biased.

Would you mind giving recent examples? In case you haven't noticed Riot's been actively trying to improve.

Maybe because the alternative is activision throwing an 11th Call of Duty costing 70$ and coming with 150$ of non optionnal DLC.

Because most console or pc games cost 70$, can't be refund, can't be sold because eh, bound to your account, suck it, and that you pay for any new content on these games.

Compared to their competition Riot is not near as bad. Plus they keep putting out free content for a free game.

I think it has something to do with how MOBAs are designed and the pacing of League in particular. The reward of CSing is addictive at such a fast pace. People hate being here, but we keep coming back... I used to scorn those kinds of people, wondering why they would keep coming back - until I "quit. Every few months, I would dream of CSing. Not even the course of a game, purely the sensation of CSing, because I'd practiced so long the feeling was literally ground into my brain. I ended up coming back after a year because the dreams didn't stop and no other game could scratch that itch. :/

I guess your brain is probably tricking you into believing lies.

The main reason is their competition is ass. Overwatch came close but I mean it's only been like a year or two since OW release. League's been around for ages. Single player games are all cool and what not but as far as online game go there's not really anything out there that can top league. Not to mention League isn't a bad game the people and the poor decisions Riot make are what make it seem bad, but the game as a whole isn't that bad.

Also don't forget it's F2P. Most games that could run league out of business aren't F2P that's a huge factor it's also not P2W. They did a lot of things right for the basis of the game aside from that yea they don't know wth they're doing. Blizz is the same but you see how successful they are
