If not a really good fake, then looks like a cognitive or personality disorder accepted and exacerbated by this group. His strange social behavior is probably seen as a divine trait, like an angel or spirit using him as a vessel. But then again, just me speculating.

Edit: Actually, the more I watch it, the more I start to notice his eye shifting behavior, and I'm more convinced he's just an anime/science fiction obsessed social outcast. Someone who was more interested in putting people off when he was younger (probably out of resentment for the way he was treated) so he turned to Satanism as the ultimate way to put people off, feeding off of the negative attention. Then the religious lore stimulated his obsessions and he got more into it, meeting others who did accept him (all he really wanted) and memorizing those passages he or others wrote to impress his new friends and put the spot light on him whenever one was present.

Oh, and he's clearly on drugs. My guess is amphetamines. Maybe LSD and coffee.
