Does the side of the map you are on really matter?

Been playing 5+ years and I have never cared but I have friends that hate not being on blue side and I see people in my ranked games saying stuff like "Finally got blue side!"

Why does it matter?

afaik it's statistically proven that blue has a higher chance to win

i heard that purple gets slightly stronger players to compensate it

There's the camera argument of blue side having an easier time with skillshots and the like.

However as far as the map goes the biggest, most obvious impact it can have is jungling routes. If a jungler wants to, say, gank bot lane at level 3 they have to start top side. Which means Gromp or Krugs depending on which side. And that can be a good or bad thing depending on your champion.

What buff you get on an invade can also change depending on what side your on. As you invade bot-side and have your top laner burn an early tele to get to lane or invade-to-kill top-side because the defending team won't have the 2 champs bot lane to help.

In a more broad sense, purple has a notable advantage over dragon. As they have the much more accessible route to it and can push the opposing side of much easier. Blue side has a much more difficult time, usually having to rush through a single side, split up or blink/dash over walls to contest. The same can be said for Baron for blue side, however this advantage is used much less often and later in the game, so it's often seen as a form of compensation for the camera angle bit.

Some people don't like red side because the camera angle isn't as good in lane if you play on locked camera. Part of the screen is blocked by your abilities. That is the entire reason and people have been arguing about it for years.

Worst part is riot is too lazy to just adjust the cameras so both sides have the same view

Most of us on here would say that you have better chance of winning on the blue side, assuming you and your enemies are equal in terms of skill, because the red side is partly covered by the map in the lower right-hand corner that can sometimes block your view of the enemy jungler leading you to get killed in the laning phase.

As a Support, I prefer Red side. I can get away without starting with a ward since I **generally **don't have to worry about the tribrush as much. Rotating trinkets with ADC for the river is usually enough (I communicated this with my ADC).

As a Top, I prefer blue side. Same reason as above - you **generally **don't have to worry about the tribrush.

It's not enough to make me feel like I'm at a disadvantage, but I'm fully aware that I use a slightly different strategy depending on the side.

Has something to do with the cameras, but in lower tiers/soloq, it has a bit of an importance. In places where lane swaps are not a thing, the red jungler could start krugs, but can't really help bot too early, or top slightly later. Also, if you start on the bottom, you'll get a better leash

supposedly red side loses slightly more games, and it used to be impossible to play on locked screen on "purple side" as it used to be. and it has a big impact on high ranking teams, as lane swapping may be risky as dragon is less defended.

It matters a little bit but I don't think it matters as much as some players make it out to be. Only thing for me is that I don't like playing bot lane on the purple side since I find it a lot more dangerous to ward then.

I actually prefer different sides on different champions.

A lot of people get used to landing skill shots and such from blue side and the angle is different from attacking on red side.

An example being when I jungle on Amumu, I prefer being on red side. Why? Because I want to start on gromp and get a better leash than if I was on blue side. Having 2 champions to assist, one being guaranteed to be AD, makes my first clear healthier and faster meaning I can start to gank earlier (yes the difference is at most like 2 seconds but it can be the difference between getting to the lane on time for the gank or not)

If I am laning as Xerath though I prefer being on blue side. I feel it is easier to line up his skill shots (I land more of them at least) from blue during laning phase.
