Help finding a two good Mid laners?

I've been trying to "git gud" with certain champs this season before picking up on ranked again. Lately i've been finding it hard to get a good mid laner. Problem is unless I play ahri/zed/kat/Leblanc meta probably isn't going to allow me to use anybody.

I use to play Twsited Fate a lot but with assassins constantly being an issue he's a no go(unless Riot finally fking buffs the dude like srsly) Then I moved to veigar. That didn't last long since the nerfs came in. It's even harder to deal with assassins now not to mention it's easy as hell to get ganked now.

AP Corki mid has been a ton of fun and i've actually done quite well with it but these have been in normals. Idk if I can take that into ranked.. I tried AP shaco and did well with him. Then DFG got kidnapped.

Karthus has been nearly impossible to play with those stupid new tower shields I can't ever kill with my ult. They always survive with little hp.

Anybody got any suggestions cause im running out of options with this dumb meta

I'm currently playing Annie and Morgana, occasionally Orianna, and I'm waiting to see how the Ryze rework turns out to play him. Other good (and underrated) mid laners are Viktor, Malzahar, Vel'Koz, Zyra. If you're worried about assassins you can always play Annie (she can out-burst most of them because of the stun; I only really have trouble vs. LeBlanc and Katarina atm, probably Talon too if anyone played him) or Lulu (shields and ult makes her and her teammates pretty difficult to burst down, not to mention she has targeted CC with her W). I'm also pretty tired of playing vs. assassins too, hence why I'm eagerly awaiting Ryze's rework (targeted CC + tankiness). Kayle and Lissandra are also good vs a lot of assassins, their ult cancel's out the assassin's burst. Zilean is similar.

Honestly, just take AP Corki. I personally ran AP Ezreal, and it worked great. I'd hazard a guess that if you like AP Corki you'll probably like AP Ezreal too.

AP Ezreal is this interesting poke mage with a huge amount of burst when he gets going. I mean 100-0 kinds of burst, like an assassin. His mobility helps him get away when assassins jump on his face. Plus his Q applies the Lich Bane on-hit, so you have a 1000 range or so Lich Bane poke. I also really like long range ults, and Ezreal's hurts when he has AP behind it.
