WARNING FOR THOSE ADDICTED TO LOL

STOP PLAYING MORE THAN 1 TIME A DAY!!

My computer is starting to fail on me. I've played LoL I believe for about a little over a year now on my Macbook Pro. Now, I know what you want to say is, "that's your problem" but I just want to lay this out.

This game can hurt your computer if used in excessive use.

In a previous troll post I'd made, I talked about my computer dying and I got mad at LoL. But it was purely my fault.

  • My battery now doesn't last long. (Even on sleep mode, it dies within 30-20 minutes.)
  • Slow computer, as this happens when a computer is over used.
  • I played this game more than 4 times a day and over 20 times a week. That is over 400 (over 6 hours) minutes of games played.

Please be careful about how you play. You may end up having to get a new computer.

How long have you had this Macbook? It's common, as computers age to start seeing the problems you describe - especially with laptop devices.

Did you recently update the OS? I've been seeing a lot of complaints around the internet in general about the newest version of the Mac OS causing all kinds of problems with older machines.

There are three things that explain what you're seeing. "Causation," which is your assumption - playing games caused your computer to start having problems. "Correlation," which is when something affects both situations - usage wore your computer down, and you just happened to be using it to play League. "Coincidence," which I suspect is most likely - the two are completely unrelated, and the causes of your computer's issues are unrelated to your League-playing.

My Mac is only 3 years old. 2011 model. Sure, the battery issue was after I updated to Yosemite but the slow was there before this. But when I tell you I over used my mac, I may be over saying it but after thinking on it, I never let it leave my side and constantly did things on it.

Well, there you are. Usage wears on machines. Macs - to my knowledge - are particularly susceptible. Three years may be unusually short time for wear, but it's not an unreasonably short time.

But my concern is that you're attempting to blame a single piece of software, when it's extremely unlikely that particular program did anything particularly harsh to your machine in and of itself. I've been using my laptop to play League for almost 18 months now, and while it's got problems, they're pretty unrelated (normal slowdown from usage, my OS is out of date, and I've got way too many backup processes running).

Computers don't get slower due to "wear" (electronics wear is a thing, but it doesn't cause slowdown, it just causes it to fail after X years).

Macs do get slower with system updates though. And any advanced OS gets slower over time.

When you do things that drain your battery faster (like PLAYING GAMES), you have to recharge it more often and therefore your battery will wear out faster. That doesn't mean the game is broken.

I'm sorry if that's how you took what I said. I wasn't trying to imply that LoL breaks labtops. But excessive playing is not good for a labtop. Also, my Mac is slower than pretty much most others that I know. I don't do nothing but play the game, take notes, and watch videos sometimes. Its only a 2011 model... :/ and yet its acting as if it were about to die. My mac just started doing this about 3 weeks or more ago. It was working fine before that. Nothing bad happened after Mavericks and my mac already had mountain lion pre downloaded. I don't know really whats causing the problem. I've even checked for malware but I can't find anything. Deleted more than half of what's on my mac yet it grew worse over time (during this time, I haven't been able to play LoL due to not being able to load into the game). I am also saddened to know that everyone hates my warning. I just posted it so that people would know to not over do LoL. For health reasons aside, to protect your labtop.
