This is a post regarding the ranking system that shows how bad and unfair it is...

I have a friend who was elo boosted from bronze 3 to silver 4 by another friend who was diamond.

The funny thing is this friend of mine was literally stuck for a year and a half in low bronze amd no matter what he did , he couldn't climb it up. Now unlike most smartasses in the community would say, that he would return where he belongs eventually, so many months and games have passed but my friend still holds his ground in silver and he almost climbed a division... He seems to have no problem where he is now and having an easseasonsagainst what seemed to be better enemies before he was boosted...

All i am trying to say is that your ranking system is flawed. It is NOT a true skill measure amd does NOT really fairly divide people to their devisions. I personaly think it traps people at least one league lower than where they belong...

Here is a fact, 50% win rate isn't enought to make someone climb a devision if their mmr from previous seasons was buchered, on the other hand a person with good mmr that dropped divisions since last season during provisionals, can easily climb divisions with a 50% win rate. How can this be any fair?? Each patch makes the game so different, just think of how much the cinderhulk patch changed the game... So why is it fair two people having the same winrate, one going up divisions while the other one goes down???

Skill isn't really linear. Especially in lower ranks people aren't very versitile. Not just with champion selection but in just general strategies. It could be that your friends idea of what to do in a game just simply doesn't work well in bronze. People can definitely be held back for a time, and this is especially bad the closer to low silver you are because that's where unraked players enter which means you get a lot of smurfs on their way up and bad people on their way down. That said, the answer to almost all ranked "fairness" issues can be solved by playing more games.

Something I think most people forget is that you don't just get stuck in bronze. Everyone started in silver. So if you are bronze now, you were silver and couldn't not win enough games to stay there. So you fell down to bronze.

A person with a 50% win rate shouldn't be climbing, that means they are where they belong. The only reason people still climb with 50% win rate when their MMR is good is because it takes time for your league rank to catch up to your MMR. Total win rate isn't very meaningful stat anyway. After 150-200 games it doesn't much, if at all what happen in games before that. If a diamond player got an account from someone that has a 50% win rate at bronze 5 with 3000 games played, they would still be back in diamond after a couple hundred games and their total win rate will still be barely over 50%.

Someone with higher mmr is playing games against tougher opponents, hence they gain more lp with every win because they're playing against opponents that are technically "better" than them. You get good mmr by consistently beating people of the mmr you currently have so mmr gain is hardly unfair. I do feel that by playing against higher level opponents some people will improve themselves to match, but in general the people like your friend are few and far between. I know a year and a half ago I would have failed in silver (hence my B5 rank) but I've improved a lot and now I do well in silver. Riot's system isn't perfect or wholely fair, but it does a pretty good job with what it gets.

You didn't need to continue this statement. Assuming that their MMR is not significantly higher than the division they're in, a flat 50% win rate is not enough to climb. It requires a slightly higher than 50% win rate. Because if you average a loss for every win, there's no growth.

The only time a 50% win rate is enough for a player to climb is when their MMR is already higher than the division/tier they're in. In this case, it's simply because while their MMR is holding steady, the system is trying to shift their tier/division to be in line with that.

And I think that's important. Because in the first case, you have a player who's winning half his matches against other people in the same rank as him (an indicator that he's placed fairly appropriately). In the other case, you have a player who's winning half his matches against other people in a higher rank than him (an indicator that he's placed well below where he should be).
