WoW vs. GW2 vs. FFXIV -- help me decide. T_T
So, I'm currently looking at these three games for something to do when the people I play League with aren't on. I enjoy raiding, sometimes PvP, and quests / events / fights / whatnot that involve more than just killing things.
With WoW, I played for 12 years, only ever taking a break when the 6.0 WoD prepatch hit, and made all my favorite classes two buttons. I heard a lot of good things about Legion and went back, but the game is still absolutely braindead. Been doing heroics and mythics, and I don't think I've even died once that wasn't a wipe. The game is just so stupidly easy, but I love the lore that's everywhere, and the art style isn't hyper realistic. I haven't tried the raids yet -- people tell me they're fun, but I'm suspecting it's more braindead content like everything else in this expansion.
-
+ Lots of lore
-
+ Lots to do
-
+ Nostalgia
-
+ Good art style
-
- Community worse than League's
-
- Stupidly easy
-
- Boring rotations
GW2, I bought when it first came out. Never played GW1, but I heard amazing things about it. As far as GW2 goes, I loved the combat system, and while the art style was too realistic and dark, it wasn't bad. There was a lot to do in the beginning, but then I ran out of things to do, and got bored. Fractals came out, and they were fun for a while, but then they got old too (there were like 5 back then). The lore was good (more narrative than WoW), the combat was fun, but everything was really easy still. Then raids came out, and I went back. The first wing was super fun, but no one pugged anything, and the people that did were God awful.

+ Really good PvP.

-
- Not much to do.
-
- Too easy.
-
- No one pugs.
FFXIV is the one I've played the least, and never made it to max level. But, I hear it's absolutely amazing, and the end-game is great. There's a ton of story, the graphics are realistic but not dark, and the crafting is actually fun. What really turned me off is the 2.5s GCD and very simplistic rotations (which people tell me is a load of BS, especially at max level). I've been thinking of giving it another shot, but I donno.

I've also tried Wildstar, Mabinogi, Maplestory (way back when), Runescape (even more way back when), ESO, SWTOR, BnS, TERA, Trove and a lot of other MMOs, but WoW always trumped them in the early days. Now that WoW isn't so good anymore, these other games just aren't enjoyable either, or get old quickly despite being fun. Are there any games out there that have good PvE, passable PvP (I like objective-based more than arena type), and a good story? Need something that will last a long time, so not a console game or a one-off Steam game.
