Gragas actually consumes the wine inside the barrel to cause it to explode, he consumes it metaphysically. Then uses that metaphysical alcohol to empower his belly slam.

He can also empower his belly to deal magic damage through physical contact... well not only his belly as his barrels also deal magic damage.

Here's some more things about Gragas:

1.) Can explode a barrel with his mind. 2.) Lifts barrel above his head and brings it down with enough force to cause magic damage in an AoE. 3.) "Bodyslam" has no build-up momentum. Gragas is scooting forward.

Gragas isn't a mage. He's telekinetic.

He explodes barrels with his mind, not magic wine. He pushes himself forward via telekentic pushing, NOT by "bodyslamming" His physical strength is augmented by telekinetic lifting/slamming nearby targets. And one of his autoattacks is a headbutt to transfer pure psychic energy to a target.

Gragas might put Professor X or Jean Grey to shame.
