My reaction to learning that Riot removed the spectating box on the launcher

They remove it to promote other things, primarily for events. It does suck, but there are great alternatives;

Download a replay program (I suggest BaronReplays). In these they have a page that shows the featured games just like you'd see in the client, and you can watch them just the same. Even better, though, is that you can spectate other region's featured games too!
Go to a third party website, such as OP.GG and they host featured games as well, or replays of old matches which you can simply download and spectate (replay files are very small. They are not raw video)

awww. does it usually work with the pbe? i was excited there for a second, that they have featured games from the pbe as an option.

but i get stuck on a blakck screen. though it works with the other regions.

I didn't even notice it. I think that's a new option, or I simply overlooked it.

But anyway, it uses your client's spectator mode to watch the games so I'd assume you'd have to have the PBE client and direct BaronReplays to use that PBE client instead of the live one.

right. ill give it a try. that makes sense, since the pbe is playing on an entirely different patch than we have for the live game.

so of course the standart client doesnt even have all the assets.

just a status update. i downloaded the pbe client, and changed the path for the exe. it works now. i can spectate games on the pbe without having an account there.

this going to be really nice to see new champion releases and reworks like the fiora rework, and general changes without having to rely on streams.

they do it every time. i dont know why. its been requested in the past that you can get it back during an event. for a time theyve even payed attention to it.

i dont know why they went back to removing the spectator box. especially at events with champion reworks like this it can be interesting to watch games of the reworked champion.
