I wish there was a way to keep a spider in the house without it wandering around, but at the same time still able to catch more undesirable bugs like wasps and bees. I'd keep 3 at strategically placed locations in the house where bugs are most likely to fly through. Spiders may be pests, but they are the most helpful pests you'll ever find.

Another one that is unfortunately a little more of a pest, but still useful is the slightly creepy house centipede. looks a little creepy but only eats other bugs, oftentimes your average annoying pests. Since they're not ever web-based, being centipedes, they do a lot of wandering, though, which can be unfortunate...

the real issue is being able to tell which spider is actually the kind of spider you might want to keep in a corner of your house that is not a threat to you and will snack on those flies/ants/other pests you don't want around.

I know there are a few around the outside of my house right under the roof tiles that stick out. They're very welcome there. The poop the cats take outside in the yard probably draws a few flies or so over so I'm sure they get a decent snack often.
