What's with base AP?

It's always bugged me to see that a champion has "0 + 50 bonus AP".

Was there at some point an original base AP on champs?

I don't ever recall so. They just want to keep it consistent with the other stat descriptions.

It's just to indicate that whatever AP a champion has came from elsewhere; that is, it wasn't base AP. All champions innately have 0 AP.

Which bothers me. I feel like it gives AD champs/abilities an innate early advantage especially for somebody who doesn't have great AP ratios like Sona.

not realy, most skills scale of bonus-ad, not total, and those with total scaling have a low scaling and low base dmg on lower ranks

Giving AP champions a large amount of AP innately would be pretty broken. Could you imagine a Lb starting off with 50 AP. Another 30 from Runes/Masts and it's essentially the same as her walking around level one with a needlessly large rod. If champions were to have innate AP, it would have to be a small amount to avoid giving excessive amounts of early burst.
