Can we please introduce more item variety?
For marksmen, they have pretty much anything that has AD or attack speed available to them. A key item typically is
, though.
Mages typically are forced into stagnant builds that rely on the most gold efficient AP item being purchased first (for example,
) and then any artificial burst items they can get their hands on (
,
,
, etc, varying on the champion) and then any item that has natural synergy with their kits (
on brand,
on some mages like cass and whatever azir is.) Oh, and they have to buy
at some point because of the eventual MR stack of every enemy. Also,
has become pretty much non existent because of the massive cost it takes to finish compared to things like Morello (for those who don't know, it has a total cost of 3,800 gold for the entire deathcap, compared to for example 2,900 gold on Morello.)
Assassins only have
truly dedicated to them. Otherwise, they have to dip into AD caster itemization.
Tanks have some variety, but typically evolve into "what gives the most resist and damage at the same time" (
, for example, maybe
)
And supports as far as I know are obligated to build some form of
,
, and pretty much any other cheap item with a good active because of their budgeting.
Can we push for more items? Give assassins for instance an actual set of choices designed for them instead of 3 + whatever caster item works, give mages 2 or 3 choices to first purchase instead of
first because it gives everything. (Example: Morello loses the cooldown reduction and becomes just AP and mana, and they add in an item with high AP and cooldown reduction but no bonus mana. This would give them the choice of Morello for longer fights, ludens for more burst, and that third item for more rotations on their spells but easily running out of mana if they aren't careful.)
Also, a few more items for ranged vs melee champions? A ranged exclusive item that boosts attack range but reduces damage, or a melee exclusive item that causes you to take less damage from distance sources (500+ units away, to stick a number somewhere) and more damage from melee sources. The point of said item would be to specialize defenses more.
If anyone has even read this far, yes I'm not exactly a pro player (unranked, more of a casual player really). It would be nice to spice things up in ways other than just champion kits, though. Some of the new tank items do help with this (
and
are a step in the right direction.)
Downvote me if you want, I just wanted to get this off my head. It's a bit frustrating to only have one item to rush because it's too good to pass up compared to anything else.

costs 3700g. Even for players who are more passive than aggressive, Infinity Edge is still the better rush because of the cost difference, as well as the battle stat difference. (crit chance+crit damage > ad + lifesteal)
