@Riot, Item Discussion: Runnans + SotD

Today i would like to discuss two items that i feel are not used very often and a possible way to fix both of them at the same time (hopefully) Please feel free to express your opinions and discuss the ideas i am about to give, any feedback is welcome just let us keep it clean.

Anyways let's get down to business, Please remember these are my own personal opinions, and whether you agree or disagree let us keep the conversation constructive.

So as everyone knows Runnans Hurricane item 3085 and Sword of the Divine item 3131 are two items that are very rarley ever purchased and i have given it some thought as to why this may be so here is a couple things i have come up with.

Problems with Runnans

  • Only Attack Speed + Unique passive of two bolts that apply on hit effects
  • Expensive
  • Itemizing for so much attack speed doesn't feel fun
  • Bolts have short range and do not prioritize champs over minions / monsters

Runnans Hurrican was suppose to be Ranged champions AOE Item after Tiamat got its own upgrade / changed to melee only, however as we all have seen, Hurricane was left in a bad place and hydra is very popular.

Now SotD also has a similar issue to runnans hurricane in that you are building PURE attack speed for a hefty ammount of gold, and that doesn't feel fun, the active is kinda fun but the stats are not worth it to most people.

How to make these items Feel fun while also being viable to use, this is the question at hand, and here is my Idea.

Hydra feels good, it has a great AOE effect for melee, it has an Active and it has more than just 1 stat, it's build path is also a bit easier to itemize with as you can buy small parts that do different things. So i got to thinking what if we make Runnans feel similar without giving it too much so it becomes OP (because ranged champions having an AOE is better than melee champs with AOE)


The Proposal
What if we Have SotD build into Runnans Hurricane and change a few stats about the two to make the item feel better.

Here is the idea
Recurve Bow + Brawlers Glove = SotD Reduce the price of Recurve Bow by 100 Gold (800g) and the make the attack speed 25%(down from 30%) (this would = the cost +1% more attack speed of 2 daggers)

SotD Now Grants
30% attack speed
10% Crit
Passive: SotD stats are halved durring Cooldown (15% attack speed / 5% Crit)
Active: Double SotD Attack Speed and Crit chance for 3 seconds, Champion kills reduce the CD by 50%

SotD + Dagger = Runnans

Runnans now grants
50% Attack Speed
20% Crit
Passive: Runnans stats are halved durring Cooldown (25% attack speed / 10% crit)
Active: Double Runnans Attack speed and crit chance for 3 Seconds, Durring activation runnans hurricane also shoots two additional bolts that apply onhit effects, Champion kills reduce Runnans CD by 50%

I Feel that this idea can allow for a few things
1: SotD now wont feel useless durring cooldown
2: Both SotD / Runnans now have 2 stats so you dont feel like your building a ton of attack speed with no kinda damage
3: Runnans Additional bolts now that they are on a Cooldown can be the same range of the ADC's since it can be controlled and isn't up all the time (still keep it so it doesn't prioritize champs making it so you have to use the active wisley)
4: Allows SotD / Runnans to have this feel of a "burst of power" for a short duration making it kinda fun

Obviously this is just an idea, numbers can be re-adjusted and what not but i feel something along this line could make both SotD / Runnans more of an option for Ranged champions looking for that Aoe Fantasy without feeling liek they are spending too much on allot of attack speed Maybe change the crit into dmg? have it combine from longsword instead or perhaps some other stat.

I just felt that hydra had Dmg, Lifesteal, regen with an active on a very short cooldown the item feels fun and useful, and think Runnans needed a similar treatment without making it super ridiculous (again the current numbers still may be too much and you could always adjust them, but allow the extra bolts be on an active can allow for them to have their range match the champions instead of a set range)

TL;DR: Make it so SotD combines from recurve + Brawlers glove, active now only doubles the atk speed / crit and is halved on CD, SotD + Dagger = Runnans hurricane, when activated you gain the extra bolts (allowing them to be the range of the user instead of a set range) and the double atk speed / crit, halved while on CD no extra bolts while on CD.

My opinion,

item 3085 is a GREAT item if you play an ASpd/On-hit champion.

You have to be careful when modifying an item like item 3085 because it is teetering on the edge of becoming a 'must buy' item for marksmen. The only reason it isn't is because of the total lack of crit chance that can be found in item 3087 and item 3046 . Additionally, the projectiles from item 3085 only deal (0.5AD)+10 dmg each, but they apply the full brunt of on-hit effects, which is why it's so good on ASpd/On-Hit champions.

item 3085 shares incredible synergy with item 3115 and to a lesser extent, item 3091

This is just my opinion, anyway. And I'm no Rioter. Sorry. :(

I just want them to reduce the cooldown on SotD by 25% for asssists and I will buy that item 24/7 !

I always wondered why they even made this into 2 items and not just 1 builds into the other. Good ideas. I really like the half scale back on CD instead of uselessness.

Just to clarify, "Secondary targets' maximum distance to the primary target: 375."

This means that the 1-2 secondary targets that are hit are 375 range from the primary target, not yourself.

Small known fact, Runaan's allows you to actually attack further than your own attack range because of this. Basically, if you want to hit Graves, whom is standing behind a Alistar, but Graves is out of range, then attacking the Alistar will hit Graves as long as he ramains within 375 range of Alistar.
