What if the LOL world Champions this year speak out in support of Hong Kong.
What do you think will happen?
What do you think will happen?
Probably the same thing that happened to Blitzchung.
Riot is an international company, and while the individuals running the company might feel differently, they can't openly support the Hong Kong protests for legal, diplomatic reasons.
They'd just as likely get in huge trouble for allowing those comments to stand without punishment. Until the UN steps up and forces China to do something about it, the acts of the Hong Kong protesters are only what China says they are.
But they won't, because the UN is too scared to force China to do anything.
They shouldn't. Games and politics should never touch. Like I want to watch and play league not watch them talk about hong kong and Chinese politics.
It's one thing to talk and help a disaster like a earthquake but stuff like this should just be neutral and not talk about it.
This honestly looks like a very Riot thing to do, considering that they are owned by a chineese company and have been catering the game towards th chineese market for years now.
I don't play anything Blizzard so I can't punish them for capitulating to China. The same is not true of League of Legends and Riot Games. If a Blitzchung situation occurs with Riot Games I WILL make sure it hurts their wallets.
The game is mainly popular because it was first made in US but China bought it out now and most of the main stream are still base on US Production to popular it because American people don't really care or enjoy Asian Production much.
But talking about this is why League is dying and you don't see as much active games or people who are looking for other to play with as much as it use to.
Because this game has been bought out by China, and they're ruining the popularity of the game. Yes it still have the largest player base but LMAO when Players que are so trash it force baddie into same game twice is amazing.
I don't know but I know what I'd do: goodbye League, it was an enjoyable 9 years but I'll never support a company that chooses money over basic human rights.
Like they would.
They didn't even make Taliyah transgender, they completely scapped that because it would ban the game in a region.
They also had a tournament where no female champions where allowed to be chosen because it would be banned in that country.
Riot Games is owned by Tencent, a chinese company, Tencent either owns or has shares in allot of major gaming companies, if any pro hongkong stuff gets said there will be severe repercussions.
I would love for more people to stick it to the chinese.
sure it would be cool and all, but that isn't the world we live in. Ignoring how they're owned by Tencent, you don't see many big companies speaking up about politics. Is it really a company's place to do so? Or should it be left to celebrities/influencers/news etc. In any case, having a large following shouldn't require you to speak up for what's "right" and "wrong"
Even if they did speak up about it, not much would happen. Public figures/companies only speak up about stuff like this if it gets them money. Riot would lose money since they have those ties to China.
They should, So Riot can go bankrupt Riot never cared about their community anyways.
the nba has probably a lot more power in their situation with china and they kinda didnt take a strong stance at all... i dont think riot gonna have a say iin this if it happen
Considering Riot is currently owned by an evil Chinese megacorporation; presumably a more extreme version of what happened with Blizzard.
It doesn't matter what political statement they made, if the world champions tried to use Riot's platform to make a political message, they'd be heavily penalized for it.
When you're invited onto a large business's public press platform, you don't use it to amplify your own political message.
While I support the message the HS dude made, he chose a REALLY stupid way to get the message out and ABSOLUTELY deserved what happened to him.
I don't think anything good or beneficial would come of it.
The situation happening in Hong Kong isn't something that will be settled by a few kind words said by momentarily famed winners of a video game.
It's fine that there people to think what is happening is wrong and lot of words and ideas are coming from a good place.
But world hunger or even war doesn't go away in an instant just because someone on a pedestal said, "Let's hope those starving kids get the food they need." Or, "I pray the war ends soon."
Like myself, I've only been brought light to this situation today. Whose to say the World Champions of this year would even know what's going on in Hong Kong yet the viewers like yourself would want them to say something about it? That's not gonna look good at all. It also wouldn't be right to forcibly bring the champions into a situation they aren't familiar with? Like what are the KR players going to say if they win worlds? Or if at all, NA? Like wth would C9 Sneaky say about HK if C9 wins?
Were basically selling our free speech to China... And it's all happening because we (Americans) don't see the value in anything or anyone.
Were all so greedy and too stupid to see that If we allow China to fall, it will also spread to tear down US. Literal shame on us. How can this country be so selfish and narrow sighted? If they control your freedom, then the money you're making isn't even yours anymore. Were enjoying a profit now, but China is really just investing in themselves. Any they must be laughing right now because they understand that they can get away with controlling our free speech only because we don't have the balls to stop using their products.
