This Name Change Is Garbage, and The Reason I Have To Change My Name Is Even Worse

You have to change your log in name if it is shared across ANY server.

I've had this name Xonra since I joined League in 2010 or 2011 (it's been so long honestly don't remember)

There is some random lvl 1 account on EUW that has never even played a single game and was created in 2015 (not by me). Apparently 4 years is long enough to keep a name, but since there is a rando, zero games played lvl 1 account on EU west, I can't use my own name as my log in anymore that I've had longer than this lvl 1 abandoned account on an entirely different server.

Pretty bullshit Riot.

I checked every single server from PBE to all live servers and this one server has a person that apparently made an account and never used it. lol What a bunch of crap, I'm so pissed about this. I use this name for everything game related as a username for like 2 decades now. Why do I need to change it when I'm not even sharing a server with these people?

honestly i feel the same way. i've had my account for 9 years and i'm being asked to changed it as well. it seems pretty unfair to me

Honestly, it's not a big deal. It's the login name, which doesn't mean much to me, since that name is not representing me anyway. Everyone sees me as Chembaron Yamada, even if my login name is different.

You cannot see the login name of other accounts - so you have no way of knowing if someone else used that login name on other regions or what their account's status is.

Even if he couldn't, both of them right. Account name and summoner name are not the same and never were the same.

Your summoner name is not going to be changed. Your account name need to be changed. You use it to log into game. No one knows what your account name is, and shall not know, since you would give advantage to hackers to get your account.

The OP of the post has no idea what he is talking about. He can't check it if his account name was taken or not. Only summoner names can be checked.

Perhaps, OP uses the same log in name as his summoner name and he misunderstood the situation badly.

His summoner name won't be changed. (Based on currently known information) So he will be Xenevra or whatever in-game, still.

when did you join league? also, if there is even a semblance of proper security, brute force attacks do not work AT ALL. You may remember the "your maximum number of login attempts have been exceeded" phase of the internet? if you don't use the most common passwords in existence and don't download malware, let's put it this way, if all you were allowed to use were the 10 numbers in a 5 try limit , if there are only 4 digitits, it would take up to 2000 days to crack it

the reality is, people get their passwords stolen from phishing sites because people use the same password, download malware and have the password stored somewhere on their computer(which may or may not be the user's fault) , or third, the system in question has no security and the user would not have been able to stop it anyway

modern password crackers can send nearly infinite passwords in the span of minutes against an unprotected system

another fun tidbit is that people throw away computers without wiping their hard drives first and this is basically a free look into their lives

He is right though? You cant see the login name of other players. OP confused login with summoner name [zombie-brand-facepalm]

Thankfully i dodged that with replacing just one character. It's a stupid change, for a stupid reason (i know why they did it, doesn't change my opinion).

I mean isn't it just changing the username to log in? Not the account name?

Wimbledofy2 votes

That's his ingame username, not his account name. Riot wants to update account usernames which is a different thing. So this means either there is some other problem or someone else that you don't know what region they are on has that account name or you have a pbe account name. I for some reason also cannot use my username and there's no way someone else has had my username before.
