Starting last year, they added: Event passes Team passes Pre$tige $kins Lootboxes And now, Eternals
It just seems like they suddenly became REALLY desperate for money.
If so, they are losing money because the balance is so extremely poor. Just adding more expensive things will in the end cause them to lose even more money
Even if they are earning big cash those things would still be on the menu.
It's the end stage of all big businesses in a capitalist society. They have no reasons NOT to be a hungry cash grab since that's always been the point. And once you get big enough you can't tumble and fall into nothingness overnight, nothing stops you from pulling the most ridiculous money schemes and get every penny you could possibly get in the world.
Event passes
Give players more value from an event the more they play. The tokens you get for free from an event, and the overall event rewards are (approximately) the same as what they were pre-event passes, so this hasn't really taken anything away from the game.
Team passes
Are just a way to support your favorite teams and get some rewards out of it. People have constantly complained about how little riot gives pro players in terms of prize money. Giving teams a portion of the money spent on passes is a nice way to give a little more to them.

Pure cash grab, nothing more.

See above again Some things riot has done to make money this year I fully support. The blatant cashgrabs are complete bullshit though. Unfortunately, you have whales that will throw money at riot for literally any "feature" they add, regardless of how stupid it is or how much it costs. I know a few people who are already talking about how many eternals bundles they're going to buy because they play a lot of champs.
