Riot - Please Stop. People HATE having to get content through Youtube and Twitch

It's come to my attention that the green chroma for the new LeBlanc skin is going to be yet again crammed into this ridiculous "content creator program" again. Please stop it. WE HATE THIS KIND OF EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. It's horrible, and it's totally up to the whims of some random schlub streaming from his bedroom if people can get this content or not. I've generally supported the things you do, even locking Red Chromas in bundles, but this right here? This exclusive shit needs to stop immediately. It's not fun, it's a fucking chore to hope you can get a code from some youtuber, especially when it's digital content that has no business being exclusive to begin with.

WE HATE IT.

If anything, it's going to create resentment towards your streamers, because it will create an unruly mob of people who not only will start to feel bitterness towards the streamers when they don't get codes, but also cause people who already wearing thin of some of questionable things you've been doing lately start to openly resent you.

Like I get that you want to make stuff for streamers to give out. I truly do, it's a two way street. But you need to fucking provide them with things like codes for already purchasable content in the store for people to redeem. People want these things, so let them buy them. But don't piss people off by making them have to jump through hoops and waste their precious time (not playing the game, by the way) watching some Youtube guy to get a code. It's illogical and ridiculous.

Oh, and this trend of fucking LOCKING SPECIFIC COLORED CHROMAS IN EXCLUSIVITY HAS TO END. No more of this red chroma being only in the bundles shit. No more of this green chromas being locked into this stupid content program. It's stupid, and if you prefer those colors, well you're fucked, now aren't you?

Just stop. Please.

Players in this game have more passion for their champions than they do for LoL content creators.

I think Riot had already stated this before. But a lot of players really do identify with one champ or another and to actually exclude some of the content for that champion for the sake of an affiliate program would really piss them off. Making them really salty and to just hate affiliates in general.

What Riot actually did: "Fuck this stupid idiot who sits around watching streamers all day and basically flirts with them in chat, YouTube vids go up when I'm at work so I can't get codes that way either. Fuck this game."

Then give them icons based on their streamers, or a little tag they can buy, like the worlds thing. Don't lock skins away, especially if it's a skin with an exclusive chroma. Doesn't seem very fair for those who do not find them entertaining or just don't want to watch.

I'd like to see if they actually increase viewer count, or if it just causes more stress to the community. One of the best chroma's for Infernal Amumu imo was the green one. Not that I play him, but I'd imagine the mains of Amumu getting quite upset if it wasn't available to them.

Can confirm. The base skin is okay at best, but def not worth buying sing I have surprise party mumu. Looking the best chroma is costing them sales of skin (at least from me)

No it's a bad tatic. Things like the gemstone skins and new prestige thing are good ideas that rewards dedicated players with thing they want while still making them rare. The chromas and emotes are things players would want are needlessly locked for no good reason. It's like going to a sports game to try to get one of like 5 t-shirs launched from a cannon, and that was the only way to get said shirt.

gemstones suck balls man. i have thousands of games and i have a total of 5 gemstones. after 10 years i still cant buy shit with them and havent really got one in 2+ years. i do not feel rewarded by them... yet.. maybe when i hit 20 years ill have like 7-8.. maybe? i dont see what would be wrong with rewarding one per season or every other season.

Hextech crafting came out in 2016. You've gotten 5 gemstones in the two years the system has been out. I'm not sure where you're getting the 10 years thing, when the system isn't even old enough.

the '10 years thing' is how long ive been playing-ish. woopsies. i still feel the drop rate is stupidly slow. apparently its alittle too random if wayward son is on his 24th while im still @ 5. i just dont see how gemstones can be rewarding when it takes 5 years to get 10 GS(thats my experience with it). i wish i could trade them for RP or something...

I've gotten 19 since playing, and that's only with like 1-2 obtained through guaranteed bundles such as the Yasuo/Riven Pass Packs. The rest have been through regular chests (I don't dump money into Hextech, so I don't buy boxes), so maybe it's just bad luck on your part or really good luck on my part.

Gemstones have been in the game for 2 years. They aren't that rare to get I just got my 24th.

Not yet, this kind of practice has to stop now. If we dont voice our concerns it will be chromas today's, skins tomorrow, champions in the future. Your blissful ignorance towards the situation is why Riot does this shit in the first place because they know people won't speak up about it,

Think about it. Enough of us went "okay, it doesn't affect me so I don't mind"; so they use that excuse to push the envelope for full skins rather than simply chromas.

I don't want to watch streamers 90% of the time because most of the time they're not really interacting with their viewers directly (which is something I like in a streamer but doesn't really work for anyone with a medium or bigger viewer base) and that's especially true when I can be playing the game myself.

If I were to be a content creator for League, it would basically be writing various fan fiction (pure text) for the various skin universes. But watching me type that up is boring and since it's not a comic it doesn't really become a good YouTube video.

Riot wanting to encourage content creation regarding League isn't a bad thing. But this is simply going about it the wrong way.

I do not gamble, I do not buy things I do not want.

Instead of getting a little of my money by just selling me the one thing I want because they hope I'll be stupid enough to buy a lot more for the one thing, they get zero money.

I'll reiterate; I want to buy the things I want in game without having to meet some sort of separate criteria.

It doesn't actually help streamers though, because it's nothing but artificial, inflated viewership. People will "watch" said streamers long enough for them to distribute, then not watch again until the next release.

maybe its an incentive to try watching a streamer you would before not have and what if you found out that you actually enjoy that streamer ?

I support these kinds of things for the streamer community because riot is supporting these peoples jobs / livelihoods

On the other hand, Rito James™ should continue to do it -- since I've gone from "WOW COOL SKIN I BUY NOW" to "Ehhh, I'll get it when it's going into the legacy vault" (650+ skins will do that to ya). I've dropped two $25 giftcards on LoL this month for the new Harrowing skins (coincidentally, also the emerald chromas). I'd buy Infernal Amumu plus the green chroma. But if I can't get the green chroma, I'm not going to buy the skin at all. And if Rito James™ continues with this new bullsh!t "marketing paradigm", then I just won't buy skins that aren't for limited availability upon initial release (e.g. holiday events).

Personally, I don't buy any bundles out of spite if I see exclusives. I shouldn't have to buy four items that I'll never use to get the one I want. I've passed on a few skins I would have bought normally.

Infernal Amumu for example - I played World of Warcraft for years and the green chroma resembles fel fire. Now the only version of that skin I'd even like is unobtainable and to see a skin enter the store that I can't buy is very disappointing as a player.

It's not like I'm not willing to pay for it separately.

League wants to adapt mobile gaming tactics though.

I don't buy the skin at all if it's got exclusives in its bundle until after the bundle isn't in the shop at the absolute earliest. For instance, I wanted the esports Rakan skin, but the bundle with exclusives made me not buy it. I'll just wait until next year.

Even the Dark Star Cho'gath skin. I wanted the skin, I liked that proceeds would go to charity, but I didn't like the exclusives in the bundle so I'll just be content with not having the skin at all.

Honestly, I've already seen one of the Sona emotes go up on Ebay and it went for over $100. You can bet your ass you're going to see a few streamers keeping a code or two for profit.

I think Riot should instead make exclusive skins for streamers, more so a skin called "Twitch Skin" or something, so that everyone can get the normal skins/chromas for the champions, but if they want fair-rarity they would have to leave that up to chance.****

Honestly I'm fine with trying a new thing to help out the little guys, but the problem I have with this is that you're making the SAME COLORS exclusive. If people love green (like me) they have to watch a stream all day and if people like red they have to buy all the other ones. If you're sticking with this content creator thing, SWITCH UP THE COLORS!

I get that they want to connect the community and everything, but the reason some people don't watch streamers is probably because they don't care or have time to watch them. And for people who are not interested in streamers, this is a pretty big slap to the face. It's not universally appealing to everyone, and needlessly locks content that a lot of players are interested in behind something that not everyone wants to take part in.

For instance, I don't watch streamers. I have work 8 hours a day, and then maybe 2-3 hours once I get home of free time that doesn't involve me eating dinner or getting set for the next day, or god forbid a social interaction with friends and family. I simply do not have the time to waste watching someone play a game I could be playing instead. I'm not going to pretend this is a universal thing, because it's probably not, but it is one strong reason why I do not value streamers - my time is limited, and I'd rather not spend it playing vicariously through some guy on youtube.

I don't hate the concept of the program, per se. But I do hate that they're locking normal, regular content in it. I wouldn't even be mad if it was specialized content made for the streamers - it's the fact that it's not specialized content that burns me up.

If you want a chroma to go to streamers, make a distinct, specialized chroma that's independent of the typical color spreads. Like if you did something that was some kind of metallic and had a special insignia or color theme based on the program's color themes, that works. But not a standard color like Green. That's just infuriating, because "green" isn't unique, it's not special - it's a color just like red, pink, blue, and yellow. The gold chromas for the World's and Halloween events are PERFECT examples of extra chromas that work in this manner - they're specialized and unique, and celebrate that you got them in this event, but they don't detract from the normal color spread that are available.
