Riot - we told you this with Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox - WE HATE PRESTIGE POINTS!

So stop with this system already. It's stupid, and it took what respect I had for you as a company and is grinding it into the asphalt. Your game has so far existed in a beautiful space above microtransaction riddled games and full blown console games, but this shit with prestige points is very quickly showing us as your consumers that you don't give a shit about your reputation and your players, and would rather throw your lot in with the 5 billion phone generic games with waifu lollies that charge you through the nose to buy a swimsuit skin for them. This is simply bad business for you guys. It's obviously a money grab, and it's extremely shitty how you're getting people hooked on prestige skins, then ripping the rug out from under them (like how KDA Ahri is now going to cost points, instead of an event, RIP people who wanted the whole set), and overall it's just a shitty way for you to try to sell skins. Your audience, the casual gamer, cannot afford to dump $100+ into this game to buy a skin, not with all the other things you release and try to sell them. This system of prestige points is clearly designed for whales, and judging by the survey you sent out asking if people regretted their purchase, you've been having second thoughts about it yourself. It's incredibly disrespectful of you to release content under this system, because it undermines the larger portions of your consumer base in lieu of trying to scrape money out of the big spenders.

This is absurd, and the more and more you keep doing shit like this, the less and less I'm inclined to keep supporting you. I'm not a whale, but I can spend $10-20 here and there, but after the fiasco of Prestige Blood Moon Aatrox, that willingness to spend money in League has dried up. It may stop entirely now with this shit with the Ahri skin, and I know I can't be the only person who's becoming more and more turned off by your business practices. It looks fucking desperate, is what it is, and it's sending up red flags and setting off alarms that tell me that maybe you're starting to go under, and why should I dump my money into a sinking ship when I could spend it on better things that aren't showing signs of dying?

Just wait until 2020 roles around and people realize that their 2019 Prestige Points expired. You can't even say "I'll save these for next year's skins", they're going to just disappear.

Which, of course, will drive people to feel compelled to spend the remainder of the $120 or whatever it costs to get the skin, right at the time of year when many are going to be pressed to buy gifts for others.

Oh, and the fact that you can only get these points by buying loot boxes is just the icing on the cake. Prestige Points are effectively a punch card for Casino Rito.

Honestly, if anyone cares about customers being treated like human beings they shouldn't support this practice.

CLG ear2/21/2019, 8:30:18 PM30 votes

its funny because the prestige edition skins are worse than the standard ones

BobaFlautist2/21/2019, 9:04:39 PM5 votes

Honestly, I think it would be reasonable and appropriate for them to release some sort of $100+ super-skins, for whales to spend money on, as long as it didn't impact normal skin production.

But the ethical way to do that is to PUT A FUCKING $100 PRICE TAG ON THE SKIN.

It's bad enough that they try to insulate you from the money you're spending with RP, but combining limited time content, slow, grindy point system that vanish if you don't dump time and money into them, Lootbox Only content, and dramatically higher than usual price tags is perhaps the scummiest way they could have handled it.

General Matty2/22/2019, 12:36:41 PM4 votes

Honestly Riot is lowering themselves to EA standards.

Tiny Feet2/22/2019, 5:24:38 AM4 votes

I love Ahri and have bought every skin for her because I thought they were worth it. I simply can't afford to spend $100 on what essentially amounts to a chroma. I hate this prestige token system because it has nothing to do with prestige, just with how much you're willing to spend on the game.

Don't get me wrong, I've spent more money on this game than I care to admit, but that's because I love the game. With these blatant money grabs, I feel less like I want to support it.

Flawless Fetus2/21/2019, 8:56:07 PM4 votes

If a skin costs 10x as much as a normal skin, they can have 1/10th as many people buy it and still be breaking even. Lol. Considering it's a glorified chroma, they'll still come out wayyyyy ahead considering how cheap chromas are.

Poop Johnson2/21/2019, 8:55:52 PM3 votes

I mean considering the Prestige skins aren't for the average player it doesn't matter very much. It's not even like you just get the skin for 120 you get it from buying chests so you have the potential to get multiple skins from it meaning its less you paying 120$ for a skin and more like a bonus for spending that much.

Neopolıtan2/21/2019, 9:21:47 PM2 votes

I legit haven't seen a single Prestige BM Aatrox skin ever since the day it first came out, even though i DID see a bunch of prestige Kai'sas and Akalis. I'm legit interested in seeing the ammount of people that actually spent the 100 dollars on that, because it must have been at least somewhat profitable if they think it's a good idea to try that again

Verxint2/22/2019, 10:39:18 AM2 votes

What I don't get is if they want money there's plenty of things they could sell us like the announcer packs that literally already exist

UninstaIIed2/22/2019, 12:34:12 PM2 votes

I have to agree the prestige points are fucking r%%%%%ed, if your gonna sell us a pointless little chroma id be happy to pop $5/10 for 2 of em if they’re really nice. All of the “prestige” skins I was really close to getting and than riots like nope fuck you no more challenges and now youre points are gone. Its annoying I spents hours upon hours grinding for a chance to get those skins I was fucking 100 away from the Kda akali and still couldnt get it. If I was a rich little spoiled brat I would have just fucking bought it all through chests but im not im a student who needs money. Riot please fix your system. This doesnt give a sense of reward just feels like a ranked demotion when we barely miss getting the skins

AAA Nicole Bahls2/22/2019, 1:10:44 PM2 votes

I was so excited to get my full Prestige K/DA set by playing a lot with the tokens and missions system, so reading Ahri will be attainable through this shit Prestige Points really killed my vibe. I kind of liked the prestigious chroma idea simply for it having a splash art, and creating content that you'll only get by playing your ass off during the month sounded like a reasonable idea.

I mean, if they already did Kai'sa and Akali in events, why couldn't they keep it up for Ahri and Evelynn? The whole prestige chroma concept with those prestige points is bad already. It made sense when you had to play a lot of matches and really do an effort that wasn't simply burning a bunch of money to a company that doesn't seem interested in the environment quality it creates to their customers.

Me as someone who really likes things organized got absurdly bothered by Ahri being attainable in a way different than her co-stars. Like, it even looks dumb picturing her by Aatrox and whatever other skin they create those gourmet chromas for for the rest of the year.

If people dont buy it, it will stop.

If there is a market for it, it will thrive.

If neither are true, it is a big mistake.

Hexs Fortune2/21/2019, 9:30:23 PM2 votes

Riot reasons that there is a market for rare, expensive skins among the player base.

It has something to do with the aging playerbase having greater amounts of disposable income.

back in season 5 i had a dream. that the community would come to their senses and stop defending everything riot does. of course i was hated into abyss by the community. my dream was that in season 9 people would start to get back into reality. while it started in season 7, season 9 is actually where people finally open their eyes and stop defending riots bullshit.

my current dream now is that the "joke" i came up with is going to be something people will quote more and more in season 10 and 11. "it takes riot about 4-5 years of constant complaint before they listen."

i made that as a joke in season 6, but season 6 7 and 8 gave enough evidence to turn this "joke" into reality.

so lets make my next dream come true. quote this "it takes riot about 4-5 years of constant complaint before they listen." constantly from now on <3

VOTE THIS COMMENT SO RIOT WILL MAKE PRESTIEGE KDA AHRI AVAILABLE THROUGH TOKENS NOT $120 WORTH OF PRESTIEGE POINTS

Since kaisa and akali were available through tokens it only makes it fair that evelynn and ahri are the same

Morale of the day being don't create content that excludes a certain part of your customers.

Camulos2/22/2019, 1:33:44 AM1 votes

To be honest I don't think this was strictly Riot's idea, this seems much more of a Tencent encroachment move to me. Mid last year Riot were apparently having issues with them over Arena of Valor and declining profits, the prestige point move is likely because Tencent was moving their resources away from Riot and pushing them into Fortnight and PUBG (yeah, Tencent owns them too...). To justify getting those resources back, Tencent likely put them up to this as a way to raise profits.

Money will cause every relationship you ever have to go south. Whether its with friends or your game of choice. Money is the root of all evil is a saying for a reason.

as an ahri main and a fan of her now updated prestige skin this system really hurts me- there's a lot of other stuff you could do with that money instead of buying a golden chroma for 110$....... even if they wanted to "raise their profits" i'm sure if they just continued with the same system prestige kda kai'sa and akali was obtained with, im sure a lot of people would buy it which means even more money than a few people buying 110 dollars worth of rp

I don't know how you are bitching over cosmetics... Shoot what makes it worse is you're bitching over a prestige skin that goes to a skin that is already in the game that u can buy on top of that the skin is only a chrono of the original.. Why u bitching u say "we" but out of al lthe people who play this game obv it was a small amount bitching.. why they will keep doing it

DrippyBrownHole2/22/2019, 9:11:24 PM1 votes

The solution is simple: stop giving Rito money. Any money. Even spending what you think is fair helps enable them to continue poor practices you might not participate in directly.

Your voice is your wallet, not a thread on the forums.

Kumano2/22/2019, 10:34:38 PM1 votes

What really irks me is Riots refusal to ever listen to the PLAYERBASE's feedback. They refuse to change the way the skin is obtained and just say 'oh we will add other ways to obtain prestige points in the future.' Like that will make much of a difference. Who knows how long that will take? Just make Prestige K/DA Ahri an event token skin like hte other two. Why must Ahri players suffer when 2 other K/DA members got theirs for an event pass??? I'd rather grind tokens over time and playing the game than buying loot when I only play a small handful of champions. What use is loot for champions I don't own or like??? Total waste of money.

Kroy Khasis2/23/2019, 12:56:24 AM1 votes

Riot has been doing this ever since there were loot boxes, except they were called gems.

What they are doing right now is tripling down on ultra-low value with expiration (the currency now expires), less production quality (instead of a new skin, it's a chroma), and limited availability (you only have a year or less to collect enough currency to buy the skins), to see if people will still go for it with the MUCH reduced value from even ultra-low value.

So far, I think the lesson is that, boatloads of disposable income or not, there is actually a limit on how much of a sucker even whales are willing to be.
