It can be other carries, so long as they have good enough lockdown for MF's ult. So Varus and Jhin could also work. Possibly Kennen, too. Caitlyn and Jinx could work but to a lesser degree, since their CC relies on the enemy misplay.

Perhaps, but MF support was picked mainly for the laning phase to counter enemy lane. There was a high utility champion (Karma) in the mid lane, which rounds out the team comp. There may be other factors why MF support was picked too that I'm overlooking.

She was picked in worlds because her synergy with Ashe allowed them to counter Zyra as well as transition into a stronger mid and late game. Her ult is always good in teamfights and a secondary adc does well in this "no-cc-just-play-a-carry" meta.

MF support is pretty popular. Having an off meta pick played by a pro often legitimizes the pick to some extent, but that's not the whole story here.

The whole story is that if you play MF support, you start off as a support and then become the team's second (or third, or fourth) marksman later on. Unlike mage and tank supports who become more utility focused as time goes on, MF support becomes a carry; albeit one that's a bit lacking in gold compared to the actual ADC.

Basically, people are playing MF support because they got matched as a support but want to be a carry, and the pro pick gives them a convenient excuse to play marksman #2 instead of a traditional support.

Riot should be taking notes here. Perhaps it's time for a new champion designed to be a support carry.

but then even Trundle (honor-of-mention: Sion) support can do fantastic job to fill up the hole in the team comp in late game so for the love of god dont play mf support unless teamed with ashe adc and against zyra support

prob cuz ashe adc wasnt in there in most of the games. and in games where adc ashe was there, win rate is still low cuz zyra wasnt in most of those games either.

to rephrase it: mf supp requires both presence of ally ashe adc and enemy zyra support to be good

Believe me, I play weird supports (Jhin, Gragas, Singed, Lee and J4 are a few of my favorites), but at least I look at their kit and see if they could actually be used as a support, MF is far from it

Miss Fortune support is primarily useful for applying maximum stacks of The Black Cleaver at the beginning of a fight so that the rest of her team get a huge damage spike.

It's different from the typical peel function of a support. Doesn't make it bad.

You could just build black cleaver on braun or alistar if you REALLY needed it.

You have more CC, Damage, Tank. Pretty much everything.

MF support is useful against zyra and thats it.

You do NOT have more damage on alistar or Braum than you do on MF. MF is a carry. Her DPS is fantastic.

Alistar and Braum lack a way to stack Cleaver. All of their abilities deal magic damage.

MF hits the whole team with 6+ stacks of physical damage over 2 seconds. It's an immense offense buff.

funny part is aside from being a Sona main. i love doing off meta supports really or something uncommon like a support with summoner 12 or (normally i forget but its fun) like but i played plenty of support Syndra Gnar Teemo Ashe Caitlyn Ahri Malzahar Malphite AP Irelia Rammus back in s5-s6 really, it was really fun to throw people off with those oddball picks and win lane while being a second carry.

Alistar will moo, I mean oom pretty fast as well. And as far as I know, Miss Fortune maxes E first (and let's not forget that it procs all stacks of spellthief's edge at once for 30 additional damage), whereas Alistar leaves his at rank 1 for a long time. Early on, before he can all in her, she can even harass him with autoattacks a lot. If Miss Fortune plays it wisely, doesn't overextend, and doesn't ult when there's a threat of Ali interrupting it, I don't think she's at a huge disadvantage here.

Except as you noted, she has to arrange her entire playstyle around him. And since support MF really doesn't bring anything but damage to the table, she should be maxing Q first, not E.

No one's saying she can't win against him, the question is what natural advantage she might have on him.
