I just hate when a company does this

You know "Claim" stuff actually means "get it for free by clicking here" not "buy this to get them". I fucking hate it with the deepest of my heart, this is the lowest a clickbait can ever reach and I'm losing even more faith in Riot when they add stuff like this. Yes I know it's a f2p game and they need money blah blah blah cough billion dollar company cough but don't lie to us and give us the real information by instantly adding it to the shop.

And another joke, forcing you to watch pro-games in order to progress in the event (I'm totally not into e-sports anymore since how shitty this meta has became) because they don't have enough viewers and need to appeal you with this

Just replying to give it a shot from a different perspective, yours is not wrong mine is just different i hope that makes sense.

I personally think it's pretty cool that they give you a bank essentially saying. "You don't need to buy the pass, but if you do you get this." That way late comers can still get the same tokens they would've, (I don't know if first wins are included in the stash if so even better!)

Another complaint was "If I purchase this and don't use it I lose out." Depending on the skin you get from the orb yes you can lose out, but if you work on your stash first then decide "I have enough for the chromas I want + the Kaisa" then wasn't that better than purchasing it first and not knowing if you could get it?

I wholeheartedly agree that the miscommunication around the stash was very poor and Riot did a poor job letting people know what it was, but when you find out how you can use it to your advantage it's pretty good.

As for forcing you to watch, lets be serious 90% of people had those things on a VOD in the background on another tab as we played or watched something else. If you didn't I'm sorry your didn't learn you could till now.

However, I will say some matches where AMAZING, Series you should watch are C9 vs vitality. Which Game 2 is probably the greatest game of worlds thus far. And pretty much ALL the quarterfinal games were good in their own right. Pros fortunately are doing a lot of anti meta stuff (not all but some).

Like I said earlier I can see where youa re coming from being swideled from the lack of communication and the feeling of being "forced to watch." For me I felt that the gains where worth the effort, then again I'm a die hard Shyvana fan and needed that Chroma in my life lol so I made sure to get those games in.

Currently I have Shyvana chroma/border/ Zed Thresh and Kha Chroma/ and 2 orbs. (I don't like the Kaisa skin)

I hope none of this stuff becomes available again, that would increase the value even more for me. If you like the chromas/icons/or kaisa go for it may be your only chance (I hope it is) if not, I think it's better that you pass as the worlds orbs have been really unlucky for me. :(

Riot's hard on for money is so strong that they forget the players have wants too.

i have more than 1k token waiting to be claimed, but no money so i guess i wont be having my 3 victorious skin

I hope you do realize that for years people requested that Riot adopt viewing rewards because almost every other major esport does them.

DOTA CS:GO Overwatch Hearthstone.

There's probably some I'm missing but you get the picture. Unless we're going to start classifying CS:GO and DOTA as desperate-for-viewer-esports.

It's honestly not worth if you get world pass. Anyone saying it's worth is lying. You just need to spend a lot more time in game to actually get desired tokens. And game isn't rewarding at all.

XxXGwanXxX10/22/2018, 5:22:45 PM6 votes

Actually,

Claim : If you claim something, you try to get it because you think you have a right to it.

Key word being "think".

Ceazaru10/22/2018, 5:21:08 PM6 votes

Actually Riot is getting the viewers this worlds. It’s like 200k-300k every night.

Larriet10/22/2018, 5:37:38 PM5 votes

I don't know how to reconcile this. On one hand, it's nice to have this info available in an easy-to-see place just in case anyone is interested in the Pass later but doesn't know if it'll be worth getting at that point. On the other hand, this will definitely lead to people impulse buying the Pass because they think, "Wow, I'm getting a lot of tokens from this!" even if they don't actually want any of the stuff.

I just put the videos running in the background on 2 tabs on mute for 10 mins and get the missions. I don't mind them tbh.

Honestly if rito keeps on doing passes, I hope they copy dota 2 and add more stuff than just grinding for tokens.

Lmao. Just Riot finally getting desperate. 3 years now of ignoring the community, and they still haven't learned.

That's because then they can say, worlds was a total successful e-sport event

Marshbouy10/23/2018, 12:45:29 AM3 votes

I was actually pretty mad when I got tricked by this. It's a scummy tactic.

YTKingSlayer10/23/2018, 1:10:31 PM2 votes

I feel the same way it feels like a cash grab more than anything to me i play the game a lot and then when tokens build up i cant get them and its hard to just get the 300+ for good stuff by doing missions that give 10 world tokens per mission thats basically 30 missions and thats almost all the missions.

VesperNadal10/23/2018, 6:46:15 AM2 votes

I really like that Riot did this.

By Riot attempting to bribe their general player base and then hiding that bribe behind a pay wall, they found a way to superficially inflate their viewership numbers for this year's LCS (something they will brag about) while also finding yet another way to exploit their player base for money. FUCKING BRILLIANT! The combination of unfulfilled promises, flagrant self-promotion and shady business practices amounts to a WOMBO COMBO for TONS OF DAMAGE to Riot's integrity as a company to their consumer base.

The way you learn from this is by not watching the LCS next year no matter what is promised to you. Because Riot is very likely to find a way to weasel out of any promises they make the community and find some way to profit through exploitation and underhanded microtransaction practices.

Gentleman Gems10/22/2018, 9:15:18 PM2 votes

Claim: Noun: a demand or request for something considered one's due.

Yah, I can see the misleading use of words there.

TheSnowyLeopard10/24/2018, 9:41:24 PM1 votes

I'm late to the party but:

You don't have to watch the videos at all, its also not an obligation of yours to complete the missions, everything is optional. If you want to do those "watching videos" mission, then boot up a vod of theirs, mute it, and Alt+tab. Tada, it will count you as watching it without watching it. (i did for all the missions so far.)

Also, they dont need to advertise their streams at all, and they aren't desperate for viewers either. In NA alone they have the highest view count every time they start streaming this worlds. which is averaged around 300k TWITCH ONLY TOO. Youtube has at least another 50k.

As for the meta, this meta, and this worlds, has been the widest and most balanced one there has been since season 2. I haven't heard any analyst say otherwise YET, and as for me playing the game, I can pick ANYONE and no one would dodge because of it. Last patches? oh HELL no. pick someone "off meta" dodged instantly.

As for a company making money off a game they made. Dont you think that people who make something good and that people want, they SHOULD be making money? other than losing money? you cant hate a company for being successful because they are successful. (cough cough) EA is a great example of someone who doesn't deserve the credit they get. Riot doesn't branch out, they have stuck to one game for almost 10 years to perfect it, and that's a risk in the video game industry. People get burnt out real quick. The fact that they have made it this far isn't because they are scummy, its cause they actually put effort into their projects and they care.

TL;DR: Read it dickbutts

The last two are opinions, but I think the first two are objective. Hope this gives a little insight to an opposing viewpoint :)

Just as a heads up the game is probably more fun to watch now than it's ever been.

I may disagree with Riot's priorities, but they did actually succeed in their goal. They balanced their game around making it fun to watch, instead of making it fun to play. It might suck total ass to play this season, but they finally managed to hit their goal; it is actually fun to watch right now.

What's wrong with Riot promoting their biggest event and giving people incentives to watch? If you don't want to watch, then don't fucking watch. You people are so whiny.
