Well, I've been wondering this for a while now. After a champion gets a VGU, what happens to their old model, assets and data? Do they get archived or stored somewhere, or do you just straight up delete them?
If they do get archived somewhere, is it hypothetically possible to bring them back into the game?
Skins writer here (ignore the regional ambassador tag -- that team hasn't existed in almost four years).
As far as, say, the old voice lines/SFX, we do have them archived in the event of a rerecord, script extension, or recasting. So if I want to hear old Swain there's a directory of archived files I can go to and look at them -- we just don't use them in game.
I suppose that you could put them back in if you really wanted to, but outside of some sort of hypothetical horde mode where you fight all the old versions of reworked champions including the really nightmarish pizza-footed horrors classics from 2009 I don't see why we would. Not that I've been quietly praying for that mode for years, or anything.

There was a video (like a start of season thing, I think maybe some sort of music video?) where someone got thrown up really high, and up there in the clouds were all the old reworked champ models, including 2 ryze's fistbumping each other. For the life of me i cannot remember how old the vid is or what it was about, but I know it's Riot official.
