Can people go apeshit over sudden sexuality change of a champion. I did not even watch the video and I am going to tell you why your claims are bullshit.

  1. Its fictional character for fucks sake. WHO THE HELL CARES. For every thread with this homo bashing, feminists and leftists can post more shit about how homophobic youare.
  2. You never knew what was his sexuality in first place. There are 1.7 milion homosexuals married to opposite sex in america alone.
  3. Stop talking about his old lore. His old lore comes from times when summoners were a thing. You know those dudes with blue robes and balls controlling champions. Yes they dont exist anymore. And so didnt his lore.

If his sexuality wasn't hetero, he wouldn't have married and having a child, and go so far to avenge for their death he corrupted himself and went on a suicide mission, though. Maybe he was bi; but the point is that his sexuality was clearly not a subject of unknown.

BUT that is less to do with the problem itself, it's more to do with the core of Varus, such as his major motivation and character arc, being completely scraped and deleted and replaced with another character entirely. Sure, this argument was brought up back when Galio had his lore change too, but unlike Galio whose lore change is mostly an extension from the original concept, in the case of Varus they simply rewrote him with another character more or less from the ground up; which is kinda a big deal.

A fictional character can still have an identity. I'm sure people would be rightfully pissed if today J. K. Rowling says that Harry Potter is now a dog with unusually high intelligence, or that if somehow J. R. R. Tolkien suddenly comes back to life and reveals that Gandalf is now an small orc sitting inside and piloting the golem that we know as Gandalf's signature appearance, too. Same stuff.

Also Varus's lore had nothing to do with Summoners. It did have something to do with the Noxian invasion of Ionia, which is still canon after the retcon. So there is little about somehow the original Varus's central motivation and existence being no longer valid.

  1. A lot of people care about the integrity of a character because they enjoy lore or the lore behind the character they could never tire of playing. I care a lot about lore and I care pretty deeply about the lore behind Miss Fortune.
  2. He was married to a woman and they had a child. In a world where there is no group of individuals that hate homosexuality to the point of committing hate crimes, why would he need to hide it with a marriage?
  3. Despite the retcon of summoners, a lot of the original lore did not need to be changed heavily (if at all) as a result. Varus had a lore that was ultimately unaffected by the presence of summoners and had no reason to be rewritten into what it was. The story itself was terrible and had many forced elements that end up taking a character with motivation and limited time to something that simply has no real purpose for existence due to his total situation.

To an extent i can understand where these people come from. Its basically making a brand new character, and to change it that drastically for people who are just that into the lore seems wrong.

Its just like the backlash Marvel and DC gets when ever the retcon/change characters. Its comes a point when it would just be better to make a brand new character if you want it to be that diverse. Because then what is stopping you from changing it again, and again?

Im not saying it was a good thing or a bad thing to change his sexuality. But at the same time it just seems pointless. Its like when Blizzard did with Overwatch. Claiming these characters are Gay, Straight, Bi, etc, it doesnt do anything gameplay wise, so why take it that seriously?

What the fuck, are you really gonna be that unreasonable?

How many times do I have to say that the problem is not adding a gay couple, or anything to do with gays being gay. I mean fuck me, I support gay right because I firmly believe that no one should be prosecuted and treated unequally just because your dick doesn't go into a vagina and vice versa; I know for a fact homosexuality is not something that's "man-made" or some kind of sickness unlike certain demographic of people; I have 0 problems with gay characters and is an anime enthusiast, the media that has no qualms of starring LGBT characters and has an abundance of them; I even myself have recently reached the conclusion that I may have some bi-tendencies and have accepted it without a single problem. I don't believe gay people are troubles, I have 0 issues with gay people being who they are.

I do however, have issues with changing a character at their VERY CORE without any real reason to warrant the change such as how IoW being deleted has invalidated the core of Fiddlestick or something along that line. Galio lore change changed his character, but he is still the "Sentinel's Sorrow", in fact his new lore is actually more tragic than his previous one; WW is still a man with "the rage of the beast now complements his predatory spirit", a catchphrase quote describing the character from the very first lore of him (he has had 2 lore changes; though I can't find and remember his old alias/title to comment on) You get the idea.

Varus is changed way too much from his old self, so much so it is literally replacing the old character with a new one. That really is going too far, and your rather underdeveloped reasoning skills are not going to change that.

EDIT: This is similar to the good o' Trundle lore change, which had sit with the community just about how well this current deal is. If you don't know or remember, Trundle being made a rather unwitted dictator, from his older much wittier, and caring (to an extent before turning sour) self, also sparked some controversy back then. This one is just that. Not popular, for good reasons.
