Question about loot.

Anyone knows if loot is determined the moment you receive the loot container (box, champ capsule, whatever) or when it is opened?

If the latter is the case I can just stack champ capsules and open them every time a new champ is released to have a shot at it. It's been ages since I didn't pay 7800 for a champ and I want that feel again xD
