Watched an episode of Little Witch Academia. Here's my thoughts.

So, here I am at home sick, and I'm looking through the shows I need to watch. I then remembered LWA is on Netflix, so I got some food and settled down for one of the highest-praised animes my friends talk about.

deep breath

I personally couldn't wait for it to be over after 5 minutes.

Now here's the thing: I adored this anime during the first couple minutes. The art style is unique, the presentation was amazing, and the protagonist was adorable.

... And then the protagonist got older.

This. This chick right here. This completely innocent-looking, happy girl right here? This is everything I hate in a protagonist.

Loud. Dimwitted. Annoying. Powerless until she discovers le hidden OP power within her. Never shuts up. Thinks everyone wants to be her friend.

Never shuts up.

She ain't even innocent. She almost causes the other two more interesting -- and relatable -- characters to get expelled/die because she guilt-trips one and "PLS MY STUFF!!" Then when she gets rightfully betrayed because she's a selfish idiot, plot-armor gives her every right to make it out alive with the OP staff we see at the beginning.

Oh, and she arrives in the ceremony like, "YAYYY!! WE MADE IT!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!"

I'm fine with this sort of character only being a minor character, but nope. She's the protagonist, meaning she'll get the most screentime. I just can't.

She ain't even that cute.

At least the side characters are nice though. That ends my "review" of LWA. ^^

I kinda enjoyed season one, but season two is where it steps up its game. I found the artstyle amazing but the characters lacked a bit of depth. In all two seasons, there are barely any character progression, at all. The anime makes you beg for more, but it just keep on throwing the same shit at you. You would expect Akko to get better at magic over time? Nope, from the first episode of season one up until the last of season two, she hasn't made any visible progress. It is implied that she got better, but none of it was apparent in the show. She only shows prowess when using her magic wand, yet the power doesn't come from herself and she lacks control over it, so it is irrelevant for her own character progression.

I think season two is ten times better, season one is slow, even in terms of story progression, barely anything happens at all.

I stopped after the episode where they owed a dragon money. That episode made no fucking sense.

You're right about the other two characters being more interesting.

I dunno shit about this show, other than that it looks like the usual cutesy pandering bullshit that I avoid.

Took me a few episodes to get used to Akko, but it was worth it.

I'm also more depressed because it made me think more about how life is boring.[zombie-nunu-bummed]
