Why do 4v5s still give LP losses?

It's so unpredictable and so unfair to the other four members when it happens, particularly if the missing person is a carry.

Even if they are 4vs5s are winnable.... ive won several. Besides they'd need to make it so the 5 in that scenario don't gain any lap either which would open up a ton of abuse

Because Riot thinks it would increase toxicity. As if 4 pissed off people clicking Play again won't be toxic.

I'm pretty sure it's to prevent exploiting the system.

If 4v5 no longer gives an LP loss, you could encourage people to flat out leave in a game they think they're loosing. You could have one player trying to intimate others into leaving to prevent LP loss. You could even have players thinking they're taking one for the team by leaving what looks like a loosing game: potentially turning a winnable game into an unwinnable game and causing a misguided amount of self-justification for leaving.

It would seem to me that giving very harsh LP penalties to quiters would make abuse a non-issue.

If you didn't lose LP for 4v5s, people on a losing team would have incentive to try to force or encourage one player to quit.

It would also be potentially abusable by duo queues. If you're in promos, you could ask your partner to DC to prevent a loss.

Finally, assuming the winning team still gains LP, it would lead to MMR/LP inflation, since 5 players would gain points and 0 players would lose points in x% of games. MMR/LP inflation is a bad thing because it rewards players for playing a lot of games, instead of rewarding them for winning a high percentage of their games.

If the winning team DIDN'T gain LP for the win, you could potentially have situations where a troll on a losing team quits the game to spite his opponents by denying them their deserved LP.

Losing LP for 4v5s sucks. We've all been there, and I'm sure we can all agree it's incredibly frustrating. But over enough games, you should be on the 5 person side roughly as often as you are on the 4 person side. Systems that reduce the penalty for losing 4v5s are potentially abusable, and encourage toxicity.
