A look into AP items and reasons why the 8.4 changes didn't quite hit the mark
Patch 8.4 "Mage itemization follows a pretty simple decision tree. If you need mana, get the only mana/cdr item (Morellonomicon). After that, buy the best general damage items (Void Staff and Liandry's). We want to give mages more options, so we're creating new mage items (and reshaping old ones) to provide more unique and focused outputs and let mages adapt their itemization to game states, matchups, and personal style."
"The burst poke item". Built by 90% of mages just like old Morello.
"The catching item". Does it really exist though?
"The endless mana item". Perfect for very mana hungry AP champions just as it was before.
"The anti-tank item". Was already good before, just got better for its purpose.
"The anti-healing item". Though it also appears to be the perfect anti-squishy and second item for 90% of AP champions just like old Liandry.
Simply a must to reach some decent AP counts late game.
Is it built by 3 or 4 champions? Can't quite tell.
A must if you don't want your 700 AP build to be useless against anyone with more than 100 mr.
The must-have AP items for a good build are

with few exceptions, just like
was the go-to build before this patch.
Why has this problem and this failure been forgotten in the last year? Why can't we have a true variety of items to chose from?
