What champ uses Rod Of Ages well?
I just tried it on Annie and that was probably the worst Annie games I've played. Probably didn't help that they were a better premade than the premade on my team, but...

Every ap tank, short-range battle mage, and tanky mages.
The shorter list is champions it's NOT good on. It's very, very good on any ap champion that can use the ap AND the mana. So it only really sucks on champions like kat, rumble, and alkali

Nah 60 ap and ramps up to..80? over 10 minutes. I'd rather just a Rylai for more damage at all times and more initial hp for someone like Annie. Mana not necessary. On Singed, it's fun cause infinite heals on Q.
Ramps up to 100. It's about the most stat efficient item in the game
You just can't beat Doran's Ring when it comes to easily obtainable stat efficiency.
RoA (No stacks) - 97.12% gold efficient RoA (Full stacks) - 156.47% gold efficient
Doran's Ring - 184.06% gold efficient
Dorans Ring is a small item that takes up a full item slot and then you have to sell it later.

Rylai's costs 600 more gold. You can spend that 600 gold on an amp tome and you're up 20 AP with gold left over. Rod also gives more health when it's stacked and we haven't even begun talking about the huge sustain from the passive.
Picking Rylai's over Rod of Ages means you are paying quite a bit for that slow passive before you even consider whether or not you care about the mana.
It's pretty good on Annie, you just have to be willing to invest some early power in being more of a late game bruiser.

AP Bruiser

Why does everyone forget swain?
Probably not forget
they don't want to remember Swain.
Haha.
Trauma.
It's actually a core item on Annie...
Any close or midrange mage. Anybody whose abilities operate at a 1000 units like Lux don't generally need the bulk. Champs like Ryze or Annie though with the typical range of just barely outside an ADC's auto range generally want to have the bulk so they don't explode from needing to get that close in a fight.

Fizz, Malz, Ekko, and Veigar don't really use the new ROA that well. Anivia fucking loves it though
Swain uses it fairly well, I think I like this new one better for him. I find myself "oom" a lot less and I am not completely scared to use an ability to CS
Actually works in Annie quite well...just don't get it as a first item. is a terrible first item.
Go something like
into
into
and throw your boots as soon as possible. I normally get second tier boots rigth after
just because position is so core on Annie.

But the thing is, ROA ramps up over time. The earlier gotten, the better. If you get a 2500 investment first, that's 10 minutes gone in a possible 30-40minute game.

Normally you would be correct but there is a difference with Annie. She ain't a late game champion, she is MID game and getting ROA first delays your power spike which hurts you considerably. The only reason to go ROA first would be if you are against a really abd match up like Azir and you know you won't be able to kill your lane or roam.
You get your AP item first (You can even rush deathcap if you are stomping your lane) and while you are on your power spike you invest in the ROA to mitigate your somewhat weak late game (so you are not blow up before delivering your damage). Plus the passive allows he to stay on teamfights longer since she gets heal with mana usage which is basically free on the waves.
before it was gutted i always used it on building my support champs tank healers damage.. i always say that little bit of hp mp and ap makes up for it later on... it still scales with some items but not as impactful as it was before
Gutted? It's better and more slot efficient than it was before. I'm thinking it gets nerfed a bit soon
well it was gutted used to give more hp mp ap now its down by a third
True. But price went down. It's a very good item. Plus catalyst passive is amazing
Cost efficiency wise, RoA was indeed nerfed.
Old RoA (10 stacks): 120AP 500HP 800 mana
New RoA (10 stacks): 100AP 500HP 400 mana
That's a 8/5th of a mana crystal (660g) and an amp tome (435g) lost.
1095g - 400g = 695g
In exchange for costing 400g less and allowing buyers to begin stacking earlier, the item itself lost 695g net worth of stats.
Don't forget the new passive that on most users equalizes the missing mana and contributes to more effective health than previously. So effectively, you loose 20 ap and maybe a bit mana for more sustain, all with lower gold cost. And lower gold cost on a stacking item is a bigger factor than it seems at first, as roa usually would delay important core items.
Is that 20 hp a typo or something I'm missing?
typo, ment ap
Karthus and Swain.

Those type of champs

Swain and Karthus.
Actually a lot of mages use ROA well, even some AP tanks. Anivia, Swain, Maokai, Twisted Fate, Annie, Cho Gath, Lissandra. Basically mages who are either really mana dependent (like Anivia and Swain) or mages who rely on being in fairly close range to get off their damage, meaning they need a little more durability (like Lissandra and Annie) will use ROA well.
