People who say this game isn't luck based are living a lie

If your midlaner decides to first time bloody Aurelion Sol in ranked and feeds fizz with 10 kills in 15 mins then whatchu gonna do

If your toplaner decides to ragequit and never come back at minute 8 whatchu gonna do

If you get a troll in your support who runs it down and has a score of 12 deaths in minute 20 whatchu gonna do

And its the same the other way around. Enemy has a troll or two? Good job, free LP. The remake bugs and you are 5v4 from the start? Good job, free LP. Enemy picks Azir first time against a million mastery point Leblanc? Good job, free LP.

You can't say this game is not luck based. Team A might play with all their mains while team B got unlucky and 3 of their players main champs were banned or already picked.

I can go on for hours to tell reasons why this game has not much to do with skill. At least not in the lower elos.

Of course you can contribute some to the game. For example I am support main. I ward my ass off, but if people dont look at the map then what can I do? I ping and warn people when I see the jungler enemy about to gank but if they ignore it what can I do? I can ping drake when 3 enemies are dead but if no one cares about objectives and rather wants to farm what can I do?

Honestly stranger, you're a step above most of the community by even acknowledging that the enemy team gets the trolls and such too. However you're also as step below by not realizing this makes skill matter by having the luck balance out.

Not really in the long run.

Bad boys, bad boys, whatchu g...

If the game was truly luck based, then everyone would average out after a while.

Of course my dutch (belgian?) friend, you can decide to live a lie and complain about everybody else's performance.

You're dealing an extremely low amount of damage for a vel'koz support. If you really want to improve and climb, stop making excusing and actually find out what's going wrong with your own gameplay and fix them. Your teammates aren't holding you back with your amount of games played.

Currently on a 53 % winrate with 422 Velkoz ranked games, guess I'm doing not too bad.

Right so here's the thing, you may very well be correct about outside things effecting games. However, that's true of other games as well. What changes between someone who is a master at those games and a novice is that they figure out ways to minimize those issues.

A diamond level player still had to fight through all that stuff to climb. They didn't just drop into diamond. What they do is minimize the effect of RNG on their games. They also reduce the number of mistakes they make and punish mistakes the enemy makes as much as possible.

Sometimes that means you are still going to get a bad team. You can be a diamond level player smurfing in silver, and your whole team just feeds to 30+ kills in 20 minutes and there's nothing you can do. It does happen. On average though, if you are bigger impact on your games you will climb.

In summary, don't let anyone ever tell you feeders/afkers/first time in ranked X don't screw up games because they do. Having said that if you are doing well in the majority of your games, have consistency, and help to reduce some of those issues (say by your own example by warding a lot so your team doesn't get caught and knows what is going on with objectives) then you will win enough to climb even if it goes slowly.

Put a challenger player in iron. I will 100% guarentee they solo carry every game. The difference between the challenger player and the hardstuck bronze player? Skill not luck

You really think that when one person ragequit and 2 people troll and go 0/13 and give Darius 10 kills in 15 mins that a challenger can 1v5 and still win? Dream on.

Its not supposed to be 100%. They would simply maintain high impact long enough in games to generate trends of performance which would climb the ladder.

Individual matches might be luck for if there are outlier players who damage quality. Fair games boil down to skill. Skill also counteracts some of the impact luck makes.

AS its off each and every game you play with the context of who your playing Luck is not a factor by the time you hit low uncertainty for the probability models used to make MMR systems.

Any questions?

Not every game. Its usually more like 80%-90%

Games are almost entirely decided by which team has the least unstable rage quitting children on them.

That doesn't make the game itself luck based. If everyone plays their mains in a game and tries their best the more skillful people will win in the matchup usually, not "oh you got kills because you're lucky, no skill is revolved!"

Luck comes into play with whether or not you'll get a good team or trolls, yes, but the game and champions themselves aren't all luck-based....skill matters.
