I always wonder why the ping increased through the years

So i was playing on N.A server since the first days of the game days before even ranked games was a thing (i was having like 4k games before the ranked games apply on the system and the whole season 1-2-etc start) back then i was playing with 60-70 ping from E.U on N.A server

Then a year later 80 ping then 100 then 170 and then 300 ping this year

So my question is what was the thing that increase the ping that much? i still play from the same spot i was playing back then and now i even have better internet lol so why the ping increased through the years? how does this thing work?

I mean my only theory is that when i was on N.A with 60 pings the game was having like 10.000 or 20.000 players MAX and now have like 60million or something but does this effect the ping?
