I believe that Sunfire Cape need a small buff

Phuc Dat Bich··127 votes·3,754 views

Like seriously this item now barely used simple because its dosent do very much i mean you can go for dead man plate and to be better option

Sunfire need to be buffed i dont know the HP? the Armor? the Damage? to make the damage Scale with HP or Armor so the bruisers to not abuse it and to become a tank item? Many choices

But the sure is that it need a buff

I disagree, I think the only reason its not being purchased is because they have swapped around the recommended items so much. Honestly its still really strong for those bruiser tank types, especially for top lane tanks when rushed. I go Tahm top a lot and it allows me to almost always out trade whoever my matchup is.

J Eevo5 votes

It's not being purchased because it was an autoinclude for tanks which got it nerfed. If you want more people buy sunfire you need to either up the damage, make it scale up faster(damage is level dependant atm and starts out really crappy) or nerf Dead man's plate as it's usually picked as it's replacement and dead man's way better than sunfire at the moment.

ImNotTicklsh2 votes

I still will have to disagree. Its not meant to be a "holy shit get him away from me he's got sunfire" kind of item, its meant to give bruisers who already are a pain to deal with, more harass when they're in the middle of it all.

J Eevo3 votes

Fair enough it's "harass" in a teamfight since it doesn't actually do damage... On the other hand you could get an item that'd give you something more usefull than a tickling harass in teamfights

Well, to be honest, it was always early/mid game item, lik old static. Of course other items outscale it. But problem is that other items outperform it even in lane/mid game skirmishes

J Eevo2 votes

It was swapped to late (reduced damage, but included level scaling) and simultaneously had a competitor introduced in the form of Dead man plate which fit the meta more, and it's outclassed now even more considering how games are ending faster now and it doesn't actually get to scale up to full.

ImNotTicklsh3 votes

How does dead mans outclass it when its a completely different item? If I am top lane Tahm I go sunfire first because it allows me to bully them, if I go Tahm support I get dead mans solely to out run enemies 90% of the time for retreating with an ally in my belly. I think you are trying to classify this item into some kind of damage class, when its not. Its an offensive aura that does indeed allow you to out trade others in the laning phase, and be a straight up bully, then later game it slowly falls off, but still increases your damage output. And you are going to be focusing squishy carries, who are effected by this damage much more so then tanks.

J Eevo4 votes

It fills the same slot in a tank's inventory, it's a bruiserish item that's built when you're facing some AD, you're not really going to build both, you'll get one or the other (or just swap out one for the other after achieving full build).

The problem is that sunfire effectivness is based on how long you stay in combat(in contrast to the design of Dead man which works in short intervals benefiting you more at transitioning from a skirmish to a skirmish) but it's damage was setup so that the damage dealt early is negligible, and you won't be tanky enough early to stay in a fight enough for it to matter, and lategame when you actually can stay glued to a guy for a long time, the damage is negated by magic resistance and lifesteal since other people have their items too.

There's also the fact that it's inefficient in terms of stats, and doesn't fit the current snowbally meta

but it clears minion waves more efficiently

That is true

(damage is level dependant atm and starts out really crappy)

Quite the opposite. Sunfire is carried by it's base damage early on but since it only gains 1 damage per level, the damage is only respectable later on during extremely dragged out fights and chases versus squishies.

J Eevo1 votes

It starts out at 25+level which is kinda crappy when compared to the old onewhich was a static 40, pretty sure you'd just get more damage from the dead man momentum passive, unless of course you want sunfire to push waves faster.

You don't outduel them because of sunfire, you do it because of Tahm Kench xD.

WhiteGuyWannaBe1 votes

Yeah seriously... Tahm post six is practically unbeatable even without an item. throw a single tank item in, Titanic Hydra works great, and he is a complete terror.

Zair Umbras2 votes

Sunfire has been the go-to for most split pushing tanks or super beefy tanks that stay in the fight for a long period of time to make use of the aura. Currently, fights aren't lasting that long, the item does subpar damage, and the tank stats until the recent buff to get it up to 500 were pretty horrible. It gave 450 health and 45 armor. A chain vest gives 40 armor, a Giant's belt gives 380 health. Finishing the item only got you the tiny damage aura, 70 health, and 5 armor. Deadman's was just so much better. It gave you guaranteed burst damage, a speed boost, 600 health, and 50 armor. That's 150 health and 10 armor above Sunfire with PHYSICAL damage to scale with a Black Cleaver or other armor reducer in your kit like Darius's E giving % ArP, J4's and Wu's Q's giving % armor reduction, etc.

Sunfire just sucks. A lot. Heck, 40 damage isn't even good as an aura to be honest. A squishy has about 50 MR, about 85ish with Mercurial with the usual 27 scaling MR glyphs, and that's about 40% reduction. So that Sunfire is doing 24 damage a second on a 2000 health squishy. That's barely 1% per second. That's PATHETIC. Tanks will have even more MR and make it completely worthless.

You could probably out-trade them no matter what hp-oriented item you built on Tahm. I've seen Tahm rush everything from RoA to Randuin's and still win most trades. Most champions just don't have the damage to kill him in a 1v1 scenario.

Lithium Rosa1 votes

No it's not, the damage is almost halved compare to before, if you rush it. And it is meant to be rushed honestly. like what's 50+dps gonna do at lv18?

My logic is, why get sunfire when you can get Dead Man's?

dead man's doesn't do much in lane as a bami's cinder

On whom exacly? Immobile bruisers buy dead mans plate. Mobile ones without CC buy Randuin. Only mobile bruisers (or tanks) with CC get a lot from sunfire. I don't think there are many of them in game

DrMundo likes using Sunfire Cape to complement his W. He usually builds full tank, so every tank item that can provide damage is welcome.

I also use it on Malphite Zac (I like going Zac top) TahmKench - Usually, full tank top laners like it more since they aren't going to build dedicated damage items, like the bruisers do.

On a side note, I don't understand why people buy Sunfire Cape for Leona Thresh - They are supports, they don't need to use this, and this is just going to disturb their allies from farming.

elon wątroba2 votes

Sunfire is great on leo as its grants a bit higher burst, but it isn't worth rushing in lane.

Just make the AoE deal 50% bonus damage to minions. It's supposed to be a tank item for pushing champs, so we should reinforce that.

Sasogwa2 votes

So does item 3110 imo

Westonbirt1 votes

I personally had a proposition a while back to give it an active that'd be like a weaker Rammus ult, with the size scaling with bonus armor. Something like :

Active - Sunburn : Deals 150 magic damage over 3 seconds and slows down enemy units by 15% in a 200 (+55% bonus armor) range (120 seconds cooldown).

You could arguably buff the damage though, cause it's pretty weaksauce.

Arybus1 votes

Why would you do that because that just makes Rammus even less powerful, Because the reason you pick Rammus is his ability to gank at lvl 3/his taunt/his knock up/and his super short cooldown AOE wave clearing ult that affects towers. But if this was an item what is the point of picking Rammus when you can pick JarvanIV who can, lvl 2 gank/also has a knock up/gives his team bonus atk speed/%HP dmg/and his cataclysm but now you can have a item thats almost as strong a champions ultimate ability the ability that supposed to be their strongest ability. Thornmail already made his w a less valuable spell so another item that replaces his spells wouldn't help him in the slightest.

Westonbirt1 votes

You already don't put Sunfire Cape on Rammus, you build Cinderhulk.

And I specifically don't want it to be strong, I want it to fill the niche it's intended to fill : as a very tanky champion's way to deal secondary damage to everyone around.

You're also making a lot of assumption, that AoE wouldn't affect structures. And it's not comparable to Rammus' ult in sheer damage or reliability.

Saianna1 votes

How about unique trait where damaging a champion with sunfire cape enlarges its AOE?

Idea has been taken from memories of jabbing campfire with a stick and then lots of sparks were coming out.

Nebuul1 votes

There is a new mechanic on item 3025: The radius grows with armor.

Lets do something similar with Sunfire: Increase the damage with armor and the radius with health. That way, tanks do more damage and affect more of the battlefield with it, but during laning it will either have a wide radius or do more damage, but not both.

Jakra1 votes

I dunno, I think it's perfectly balanced.

Does damage, but nothing too obnoxious, the armor is decent and the health it gives seems healthy (Lol...). I think it's perfectly fine.

Fadedpf1 votes

5 more armor to match dead mans at 50 would be nice.

Last time they made an armor item's damage scale with armor, it was a nerf.

Sunfire flat damages + at level removed to be damages based of % health.

GetMariahCarried1 votes

It never FEELS like it's that effective when you're watching enemy health bars, but in reality, it's doing more than you think. Do the math. At most 100 bonus damage to one target at the beginning of a fight from Deadman's, and likely not any afterwards vs. 25-43 every second to every nearby target for the duration of a fight from Sunfire? I think I'll take sunfire, thank you.

I've noticed in many games that a tank rushes sunfire, that tank tends to be the highest damage-to-champ dealer in postgame statistics, even if they went primarily full tank besides. There's a reason why over time Riot has made sunfire more expensive and less effective early game.

I remember a few years ago when I could rush Sunfire in 3s on Sej, forget everything else, including boots, and immediately start roflstomping opponents the moment it was finished. I would literally win EVERY 3s game that way. I had match histories that were just strings of uninterrupted Sej victories. And this is the pre-rework Sej. Ya know, the Sej that nobody played, and that everyone claimed sucked.

I may miss those days, but as a player who's not that skilled, who could pull that off, I can definitely say, sunfire was clearly broken when utilized to its full potential. It's fine where it is now.

Lithium Rosa1 votes

That damage scale with level is seriously stupid, even simply switch it back to solid 45 dps can make it available.
