Someone explain the logic in this sentence to me: supports can carry the game

After being assigned support by the dreaded autofill system, I realized how small of an impact I had, after I couldn't carry my failing team, compared to the other given roles: top, mid, bot, and jungler. I'm not saying that supports are useless, but most can only do so much when the entire team sucks. Tell me:

  1. How am I supposed to support an ADC that has less CS than the average person's IQ at the end of the game, and flames me for taking a single minion?
  2. How can I be any benefit to the team when all lanes are failing?
  3. How can I support a team that has no communication, people are all over the place during team fights and no matter how many times I yell group, nobody listens. Why? Because support rarely has the say unless they have the flashiest KDA.

Support is about carrying before the game gets to that point.

Nami Q on two targets in bot lane? Instant kill for your ADC with no retaliation.

Lulu W + Ult in that level 6 fight at drag? Guess who just scored a triple on their jungle and bot plus an infernal.

Thresh Q. Guess whose mid laner just got a free kill on their lane opponent because your 2/0 ADC can hold their own in lane and you roamed.

I could go on, but the point of a support carry is not that you're going to waveclear or actually put the team on your back in terms of damage. You carry by healing or shielding your team, and CC-ing the enemies until your team has no choice but to win.

This applies to literally every role. No one can carry when every lane is failing. No one can carry when a team has no communication (unless they splitpush or something). No one can carry when the enemy adc is a god and your adc is a pidgeon.

Then I have to disagree. If I was given my preferred role: mid. I would try and force my opponent into recalling, then quickly start roaming top or bot. Furthermore, less CS would be missed. I wouldn't go as far as calling myself an expert but 80 cs in 10 minutes is pretty darn good in contrast to what other players are getting.

Well, if you play your cards right, certain champions could 1v5. But then, you'd have to Pick Yasuo/Yi/katarina and be good enough against bad opponents to you can pull the 1v5/9 off.

Kayle
can't forget her

most of the time she gets CC locked for much longer than her ult duration, but I have seen it happen.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Yeah, since I play some tryndamere, I constantly forget you can't R during cc on kayle.

Marshbouy1 votes

I just don't play kayle because i don't understand her playstyle. I could learn it but ehhh

That's the champ I picked to support my ADC, Draven. Didn't do much, he was missing cs left and right and wasn't confident enough to do anything except turret hug. Which was sad considering he was taking tons of damage even under it.

Kayle isn't the best support for Draven, the ult is nice, but Sona is MUCH better for any team. She brings enough damage to overcome garbage ADC champs for quite a while.

ok now I know the reason why you think supports can't carry...

Kayle isn't a support... she's an AP marksman...

she scales with Items more than she does levels...

Example: As soon as I grabitem 3108 for my item 3115 I can proc TLD with a Q,E auto. If I started as a support it would take me YEARS to grab even a item 3115

Even the mages going botlane aren't real supports. They just use botlane as an effective "if I accidentally get kill from adc then it's fine. I also have enough utility to work for most adc's"

considering slows, stuns, and roots are all very powerful and common on mages...

that's partially to blame for the state support is in right now.

Anyone not a support main has a very high chance of not liking the role. Whether it's that they don't know the optimums or that they simply don't enjoy the playstyle... being a support is frustrating when riot supports one type of gameplay yet pushes for another.

Everyone should at least know BASIC knowledge of a role. Example: If I main top/jg and have never played mid in my life; I know that a midlaner's job is to waveclear therefore choose a mage likeAnnie or TwistedFate so that I can waveclear properly and I have a simple kit which allows me to do so.

Supports can't carry in a traditional way. How a support like Janna would carry is by keeping her horrible team alive. Ex: you have a team of Renekton Rengar Corki (mid) Ezreal Janna (you)

Your wood-division Renekton decides to flash ult into enemy team. You flash and end up using ult to bring the enemy Ekko into your team for an easy kill.

When Ekko died that allowed your whole team to force a 4v5 at enemy base and finish them all off one-by-one until you grab inhibs and win.

That one play turned that game into a complete free win.

I can't go over every scenario (I think we'd be dead of old age by then) so for the moment just imagine similar situations to the Janna example.

Have a good day and Good luck in the rift...

How do you carry from ANY role if ALL your other lanes are feeding?

Did you even think before you posted this?

After I dominate my lane, I could roam top or bot and stop them from feeding. That's how I've won certain games and so far it has worked, save a few. Of course, you have to play broken champs in order to do this. Annie my main would be one of them.

Except some games are truly unwinnable, and you wouldn't be able to carry from mid no matter how fed you got.

I hate to tell you this, but maybe the reason you don't feel support is impactful is because you're not good at the role.

If most games are unwinnable, then picking support is a guarantee the game will unwinnable if your team starts to feed.

Support can help better players be better, it can't stop a team from feeding.

  1. Support in order of strongest late game carry once laning phase ends. If I got a Yi on my team...sorry, marksman, I'm sticking with him.

  2. You pray for a few good team fights.

  3. Tell them to group repeatedly and hope they do. Like really press on things when it needs to be done. If no one's buying Executioner's, keep bringing up the need for it. If people aren't grouping, keep saying you need to group. Not obnoxiously, yeah, but say it and ping assistance to your location a bit. One good team fight is usually enough convincing to keep grouping.

cracks knuckles Supports CAN carry games hard as hell, just not in a truly noticeable way. For one, utility carries games. Hard. Let's say you're someone like soraka. You do no damage and your team is being torn apart by a Katarina. Here's what you do, you get a locket, bait the Katarina into jumping into your team and you pop locket and silence. Your team takes no damage from the ult and she can't jump out. Kill her.

If your ADC is useless, leave them. Your job as support is to help them survive Laning phase. If they can't, support someone else. You're not obligated to stay with them. If they flame you about it, ignore them. The worst they could do is Afk a losing game, or they could start splitpush instead of teamfights, but they still get farm and towers.

And if your team doesn't listen to you, tell them what to do in chat. If they don't and they die, tell them to listen to you. Repeat this u til they realize you know what you're talking about. I have won games where we were over 5k gold behind, multiple Drake's, and a nashor as Leona, who has minimal use when behind, by doing this.
