If I roam I lose CS and can't carry, If I stay in my lane all the lanes feed and I still can't carry

Hallbuster··58 votes·7,053 views

Is there something I'm doing wrong? After having little success winning games with a CS advantage I went back to roaming again. The only problem with this, is now, I'm running on a huge CS deficit and potentially risking my own tower as well.

It's probably why I usually hate roaming with Vladimir, his early game is way too weak.

Yeah that's not a very good roaming champ. Lb, taliyah, sol, Fizz, kat are some of the best. You gotta be able to shove the wave asap get all creeps and look to roam not necessarily roam no matter what. See what lane could be roamed to. Go about halfway and if there's nothing there for ya to do don't do it and go back to lane. Rinse repeat.

To elaborate on this, most heroes with mobility increases/dashes are good at roaming. Even when being spotted by a ward, dashing or sprinting into a lane will usually at least net these heroes a hit or two at the very least, and a lot of times that's all you really need to get off: Gnar Kassadin Katarina Khazix Fizz Fiora Ahri Akali Ekko Corki Diana Zed Teemo Talon Quinn Leblanc These are all good examples of champions that you can use to roam with, and certainly not limited to these. The reason I especially mention a few of these is because their mobility is a little underappreciated when moving between lanes. Teemo, for example, while seemingly useless as a roamer, can actually pop in quickly at the worst time for an enemy just because his W gives him such a high speed boost. Run in behind a mid or top laner and they're probably going to end up getting at least forced out of lane. Try experimenting with some high mobility heroes.

Never roam with Vladimir. Afk farm until you get at least 2 items unless you get fed early and hope to god your team doesn't screw up.

What do you do when you roam.

Some people don't quite roam properly. I suggest watching some videos and looking for the fine details like how some pros will just go into the jungle but not actually even go bot or top. They just stay mia

you also need to know how matchups work for different roamers and their opponents. For example you should literally build to roam against champs like annie depending on who you're playing

today when I roamed as ahri in a mirror match I got some extra ap and boots. I didn't even kill the wave, I just hit the minions so the tower would take less rounds to kill them. But the other ahri pushed and bot wasn't getting slaughtered so I just went back and farmed from behind my wave and ran when she found the courage to fight back or the jungler came. I just went mia over and over disrupting bot and mid at the same time even when I didn't gank. I warded river so whenever the jungler came to find me he just wasted his time. I never actually made it to bot but the dragon got protected, we got every dragon, and I got enough farm and kills to snowball because I built for what I did and profited. Saved me some mana and concentration too and I got to use the mastery that gives you damage from entering brush to win mirror duels.

edit

additionally I took an early trip to base to get item tempo advantage

This actually works very well, especially with LB where you can send your clone bot and then ambush the mid laner.

shove wave to enemy tower and/or force them out of lane. roam quickly. come back to lane before it comes back to tower/before too much tower damage is taken.

If your team is useless you cant carry as support. I've had games with the second most damage on my team rushing item 3060 on Bard sup. With teams like that, you need to be very fed.

Oh you've just warmed my heart. A banner rush on Bard is so stupidly run to play it defies description.

as a support main I agree, I sometimes help mid get a kill, and doing so my adc tries to 1v2, like legit tries to fight them, they don't get engaged on, they legit fight them, and as i help mid get a kill while getting and clearing wards, my adc dies and screams in all chats how their support is retarded and needs to be reported, in which I usally roam when we pushed to tower or I see that their mid is fully pushed up

Morgan le Fey1 votes

Support stories: I've told a Kog'Maw ADC "okay, farm, stay under tower, stay safe, I'll be back soon", then looked down right after finishing my gank to see them tower-diving a full-health tank + Lucian past wave. This has happened more than just once or twice.

Trundle Bundle1 votes

That feel when the enemy adc went mid, so you go mid as support to at least make it a 2v2, and your adc pushes up and gets killed by the jungler. You will get blamed every time.

SpecterVonBaren3 votes

I never roam as support because I have trust issues and can't trust my ADC to not die after 10 seconds of me not being within 8 Teemo's of them.

Pater Gascoigne1 votes

I know that feel. Some ADCs see me walking towards the river to ward and take that as the perfect oppurtunity to try to outplay the enemies in a 1v2.

Your best option is to learn minion wave manipulation so you can get your minions to pile up into a giant minion wave while you go roam, you'll only lose 1-2 minion waves and there's no chance of a counter-roam.

Also something that might help would be to grab item 3285 if you are gonna roam.

I suppose I can watch a youtube video for it. Luden's Echo is for wave clearing purposes correct?

Luden's is probably good for waveclearing but it's movement speed passive will be what you want for roaming.

It's better on vlad than most other items for extra movespeed for a better roam.

After all the faster you can clear wave and run, the faster you can get to roaming and back to lane to miss as few minions as possible.

Sometimes when I roam I tend to just pop up top or bot for 30 seconds while I toss out all my abilities(unless I am an immobile mage and need at least one to peel with) just to put pressure on.

Roams don't always have to end with a kill, sometimes forcing a back is just as good cause it wastes the enemies time, makes them lose cs, etc.

Only other real advice I can give is if what you did made an impact on the game in your team's favor, it was successful. However small a success... it still exists.

I feel really bad for you because this is the second such thread and I'd like to believe you're genuinely trying to make steps forward.

Unfortunately no, you can account for all circumstances and scenarios, prepare every possible aspect you can and still lose a game because other players are still equally responsible for winning or losing (theoretically).

You just sort of have to keep trying. Consider champion picks who can push hard independently or maybe even backdoor. Have you given Tryndamere a whirl?

SteelMankind2 votes

You need to shove your lane to turret first. Also, some mids are really not the best at roaming, so it could be that you're forcing the wrong macro playstyle for your champ, and really should just be pressuring mid and scaling.

Best roaming mids are Taliyah, Aurelion Sol, TF, and Galio thanks to their map mobility, and Ekko thanks to his Q waveclear. Other assassins are good at picking up kills when roaming, but bad at shoving, so often they lose CS and fall behind on xp.

Milodic Mellodi2 votes

That's why I never roam without:

  1. knowing where I'm going, so I don't waste time just wandering.
  2. Teleport, if I plan on ganking and want to account for an aggressive lane bully opponent.
  3. being wary, knowing that the enemy Jungler could likely be there waiting.
  4. pushing my minions as far as possible down the lane so I possibly have time to get back before they push to my tower.
LunarStrike2 votes

roam when cs is under their tower, try to get back to lane as fast as you can. you shouldn't lose that much CS, and if you know what you're doing, you can get a kill (which may be worth more than the cs you lost)

Sinlaire2 votes

you think that's bad? try playing jungle. now you have to worry about 3 lanes instead of 2 while worrying about farm, but add in dragon, baron/herald, and the fact that laners expect you to roam instead of hope for it.

you get the ability to farm without nearly any hassle to plot your moves up to minutes in advance, but you can't help people who can't help themselves.

In short, if you want to farm AND roam successfully, don't expect that your roam will turn tides. It's the junglers job to help the lanes while you're expected to do it in your free time. If you really want to be effective, the best means for ganking is to farm until you can gank a lane TOGETHER with the jungler unless you know you can rush a lane yourself. if it looks sketchy and might not work out, go in with the jungler to increase your odds, otherwise give it up and secure your own lane advantage.

You're expected to win your lane an take pressure off the junglers duties. At the bare minimum the jungler wants you to NOT LOSE so he can focus lanes that ARE losing or objectives that need to be taken. If you try to do their job and make your own lane more difficult, you didn't help anyone. if you want to help them, win/ not lose your lane, and coordinate ganks with them on other lanes to secure kills.

If you still can't win this way, you weren't going to to begin with.

MillForMe2 votes

You're not good enough yet.

I actually mean that you're probably in your skill bracket, or so close to it, that when you choose to make one of those two choices, the risk of neglecting the other option IS apparent. Chances are, if you did this against much lower skilled opponents, it'd work out just fine, but for a whole mess of reasons outside of the strategy.

You leave lane but you're not followed by your opponent? Then they are probably shoving that tower and aiming for that tower bonus. Your lane opponent is roaming but you can't/won't follow? You're hoping your team makes the difference and plays safe, assuming you pinged/warded.

Games always been about balance and play-calls. Some games you should roam, others you should farm, some both. You need to learn to read the situation and figure out which option is best.

I lean towards farm, but there are definitely times where roaming helps. Actually, in THIS season, I can roam, getting a successful gank, a tower with the bonus, and possibly a dragon.

Weigh your options. Weigh the costs. Weigh your opponents. Weigh the scuttle crab if it's cooperative.

You are roaming incorrectly. Shove your wave under tower before roaming. You'll lose like 3 CS by the time you get back

Junkο1 votes

From my experience, it's overall better to just farm, farm and farm more and avoid fights, except if your team is doing badly vs enemy team. Building up a huge gold and exp advantage over other players helps a lot, even if you are already ahead farming and only fighting when you have to is the best way to stay ahead. But I'm a Yasuo OTP and Yasuo is an absolute beast when ahead, idk if this strategy is good for every champion.

F Freezing Yeah yeah, people talk about how great freezing lanes are but welcome to 2017 not 2012 or something Freezing lanes is worthless whenever cs doesn't even matter as much anymore compared to kills. Kill a creep what every 7 or so another one comes out of the nexus butt- kill an enemy it's a year long death timer.

  1. Don't pick a champion that needs time to scale - Whats the point ? In this League it's all about 15-20 mins. Your team gets behind they will surrender at 15 so might as well pick a champion that's all ready powerful to start.

  2. Don't freeze lanes all that's doing is giving the enemy team more ammo to hit your tower and dive you/kill you and gives them more minions to get the next tower. Instead just push hard push lanes, try to cs but don't worry getting around 7.1 cs per min = 4.4 cs per min it makes no difference in this current league.

  3. AD - Hurricane, AD mid - Shiv, TOP - Hydra - Push to win - F lane phase because they isn't one anymore and has been for about 2 years now.

  4. Push lane and roam 24/7

  1. how hard and how far can I push in 2 how fast can they push back 3 how fast can I kill the person I am roaming at 4 will it take longer for them to push the wave back than it takes to go and kill them? 5 if yes roam in no kill your enemy laner then roam 6 if u cant kill ur enemy laner and you cant shove them in u prob should focus on getting back into the game not roaming
Bladerunner77771 votes
  1. Shove wave

  2. Roam

Now you will minimize your losses

Alternative roam method that works:

  1. See your jungler scrapping near your lane

  2. Immediately stop what you're doing and help them (if it is winnable, which it usually is)

morris11 votes

This is not a tip, but it also depends much more on your teammates. League isn't a shooter game, and sadly winning a game (almost) single-handedly against 5 enemies is most of the time just not possible. If all other lanes feed, there's a lower chance to win no matter what you do.

The Deckowner1 votes

ask ur jungler to help u shove ur lane then roam with the jungle.

theres a youtube series that goes over how to properly roam and when to roam etc.

its called leaguecraft 101 and I highly recommend it. i believe it has a video specifically about this. it also goes over all the league fundamentals of being good that everyone does, but to be good at the game and climb you have to perfect the fundamentals first. good start.

Two things that can help are to time your roams when you will lose the least cc, and to rotate farming while you roam.

To rotate farm: Try to time your roams so that you can take scuttle crab or jungle camps (from the enemy, or if your jungler is ok with it your own jungle as well) to make up for it if you end up not being able to gank or take another objective.

To time your roam to lose the least cs:

  • Roam when the enemy laner goes B, or when a cannon minion wave spawns. (Missing the cannon minion might seem counter intuitive, but it's actually because the tower will focus the cannon minion first and take longer to kill the other minions, giving you more time to return to lane and try to last hit them)
  • Push the minion wave before you roam, if the enemy laner went B you can set up a slow push by clearing only their caster minions before leaving. This will stack multiple waves in your favor without crashing into their tower and getting them cleared right away. And it will make it take your opponent a long time to try to push into your tower and deny you CS and XP.

When not to roam:

  • if your enemy laner is still in lane and has good waveclear
  • when there are no neutral objectives or jungle camps to farm if you don't find an opportunity to make a play
