Riot, It is Time to Address Poacher's Knife

I think that we can all agree that item 3711 is, by far, the worst upgrade to purchase on a jungler. With the increased difficulty of the jungle, can we come up with some way to justify a meager +20g upon invading the enemy jungle? Certain champions like Nunu may be able to make use of this item without sacrificing significant survivability, but let us be honest, this item is not worth the purchase. item 3713 for sustain, item 3715 for dueling or even a better counter-jungling alternative, and item 3706 for added lane pressure.

Please revise this item to make it a viable option. I want to feel like I can do something with this instead of wasting my smite to MAYBE steal a buff and MAYBE get out of their jungle alive.

Ideas:

  1. Significantly increased gold incentives - obvious reasons
  2. Increase smite damage to enemy jungle camps - this way the counter-jungler is more likely to actually steal the item and has an advantage over the other jungler in this case. I can see this as being a problem, however and is my least recommended change.
  3. Upon killing an enemy large monster, completely refresh the cooldown of smite - this makes the most sense to me because that way there is no down time after stealing an enemy buff. You are rewarded for successfully stealing the enemy camp and can then proceed to your own jungle and smite again.
  4. Possibly giving smite an additional ability that allows you to cast it on a champion within 10 seconds after you have successfully stolen a large monster. Affected targets are stunned for 1-2 seconds - possibly overkill but it would allow you to run to lane right after stealing enemy jungle for a gank, or let you stop the enemy jungler from killing or chasing you after stealing their buffs.

Feedback?

I am also curious which item people tend to get when they play jungle. See attached poll. Thanks!

I take Trailblazer because the sustain is just too good to pass up in most situations.

Suggestion 3 is quite possibly the worst thing I can imagine. Completely resetting the cooldown on smite if it kills an enemy jungler's large monster? You won't be going back to your own jungle to smite again, you'll be using that massive MS boost to run to the next enemy camp and smite it too. And then the next one. And then the next. And oh look, they're going for Dragon? Good thing I have smite up!

Except that you forget smite doesn't one shot any of the monsters. You still have to do most of the damage in order to kill it. I think its a decent idea.

Edit: Also, you downvoted my post because of 1 of the 4 ideas I posted up there?

Part of the tradeoff of having a mass damage ability like Smite is that it HAS to have a cooldown. You need to choose when and where to use it best, because you won't have it for at least two more camps most of the time. Remove the cooldown and it doesn't matter that you still have to get the last hit, you have smite available for every single camp, and a movement speed boost to get to the next camp on the list.

In the same amount of time as it would take a jungler with an unaltered smite to clear one full round, you could clear theirs in its entirety and then head back to yours to clear it. You're gaining gold and exp faster, while you're denying them both to the enemy, making the gap twice as large.

It isn't fair. It's not fun to play against, and it's easy to play with.

Yes, I downvoted it. But not just because of one of the four ideas. That was just the one I felt was the least thought out and decided to mention. What I downvote and why is my own prerogative; it's not up for you to ask explanation for, nor to even bring up to use against me.

And considering that your post is at a -1, I'm not the only one to downvote. So do yourself a favor and try not to call people out just because they disagree with you in the future.

Honestly, what would happen to Poacher's blade if it had everything like it has now (maybe a slight gold bonus), but also stored a ward that didn't count towards your ward limit?

At that point, it seems like it'd be a very useful tool, offering sufficient safety for those willing to use it.

Hopefully it remains unviable.

I use Stalker's Blade cause I play Evelynn jungle.

They already are addressing it

They are reducing jg gold even further and making it so that you only earn the gold back by killing large creeps

If this is true, then every large creep you steal with that smite you are basically making a 60g advantage + the value of the lg monster

20g from your upgraded smite 20g from poacher smite -20g from opponent being unable to use their upgraded smite

60g advantage without even counting the extra 100g~200g advantage from stealing his creep

I use different jungle items on different champs. Your poll makes no sense.
