Daily reminder that the ARAM Poppy build should be looked at

Salt and Veigar··39 votes·8,837 views

If you've ever gotten Poppy in ARAM (which is fairly common since she's 450 IP) you will see that the recommended items for poppy go a little something like this

item 3096 In First items, understandable since it's hard for Poppy to farm without getting shit on

But then they recommend you buy item 3098 afterwards

What? Okay, well maybe they see that you don't need to get all that extra passive gold anymore, sure you probably wont ever use the passive effectively but the slow from item 3092 is pretty good.

And then they recommend you buy item 3069 AFTER you bought item 3098 and sold item 3096

Seriously Riot, who is in charge of making these recommended item builds? This is almost if not worse than the time Poppy still had 6 item 2003 in her Recommended Build. I know you don't want Poppy to be strong but this is not the way to do it.

...they could have just put trinity force as her recommended core and leave out everything else.

If you don't have a damn clue about how to play poppy, you can do no wrong with a trinity force.

That item can make any champ viable in top lane. Seriously anyone.

EvilRabbitt1 votes

Rumble ? Him too? I'm genuinely curious.

Great Ozymandius3 votes

Actually it might work. Lots of easy sheen procs. It might change his play style so he overheats and uses phage + sheen procs on autos.

Of course it wouldn't be optimal on him.

Linna Excel13 votes

That is a crazy set of recommendations.

Captain Aishi1 votes

it's because it's based on the old items that talisman and frost queens became

she used to have philosopher's stone (ancient coin) to turn into shurelya's reverie (talisman of ascencion) and she used to have kage's lucky pick (that you could turn into twin shadows or will of the ancients (or for poppy back then, DFG))

GhostOfShrimpmas11 votes

And then there's Azir, whose recommended starting items cost more gold than he starts with.

Enkidusmurf5 votes

That happens with a few champs. I think they're assuming you go into the utilities branch for the 40 starting gold.

Still kinda silly, though, and I'm not sure it'd be enough even then (For the other champs; I don't play Azir very often).

Mathbalnase6 votes

There are at least a few champs who can't even afford their recommended starting items even with that bonus starting gold.

Yeah, it's because they made chalice more expensive, and didn't update anyone's item lists.

Enkidusmurf1 votes

That makes sense. It's mainly Sona and Karma I've seen it on, so yeah.

No idea what the hell they were thinking with Poppy, though. Gremlins?

Mandaari6 votes

Meanwhile Trist's recommended items are straight AP which doesn't work at all anymore.

Mandaari3 votes

And Velkoz who doesn't have boots in his recommended items which annoys me to no end.

But he doesn't have any feet!

...Seriously, though, I don't think you really need to start boots in ARAM, depending on champion. You're not exactly going to be roaming.

Or do you mean there are no boots in recommendations at all, even at full build? That might not be wise.

Mandaari1 votes

It's not in his recommended items at all. Not even boots 1.

STARFLASHXING75 votes

i know Riot can make some shitty recommended builds but what is this .-.

Anidan2 votes

It reminds me of those old season 2 recommended builds. "You see, for Ashe, you want to start with a Meki Pendant." What?

"Alright, for Master Yi, you'll definitely want a Chalice of Harmony for some mana sustain." ... "Alright, after your Will of the Ancients, you'll want a Shurelia's and a Brutalizer." ... I QUIT.

Sometimes I think recommended items are a balance lever to make sure certain champs aren't too good at lower levels.

Sooko4 votes

In ARAM, Poppy makes for a great initiator, and her weak early game+W can actually justify a Talisman of Ascension

I don't see any reason to suggest Frostfang though...

But meh, I've seen Kog'Maw with Wit's End on recommended items, and without BotRK

ARAM builds are outdated.

Kitten of Evil3 votes

The real Poppy recommendation in ARAM should be:

Use 1 reroll.

I Am Florg5 votes

Poppy is actually decent in aram due to her passive and invulnerability ult

SpecterVonBaren7 votes

And walls. Lots and lots of walls.

Saianna4 votes

Poppy is very, very strong in ARAM against low-medium poke.

Ofc rolling her is almost always better, but tbh she's far more dangerous than Eve, Udyr and few other champs you could roll.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

Yeah, probably, but I have a strict "I always reroll Tryndamere, Udyr, Evelynn, and Poppy" policy.

junglerboy162 votes

I hardly use rerolls because I always get someone really derpy on ARAM like Khazix (SO hard to isolate anyone ever).

Wydiwyg1 votes

Kha'Zix doesn't seem too bad. I've seen quite a number of players having success with him by just maxing W first. The poke is fairly long-ranged, he has sustain with it and he can go somewhat tanky if that's what your team needs. You just can't play him like you would on the Rift.

Meanwhile Tristana has still recommended Ap build

...

Drakylon2 votes

Tristana's recommended build on ARAM is still AP.

The more you know.

blueberrypancake1 votes

It makes a lot of snese actually to build ap when everyone is so close together but having an ADC is so good. I'd say its situational

It Hertz When IP1 votes

Actually, with her E active shift from AP to AD scaling, AP Tristana build just tells me that the person has no idea how to read ability descriptions. AP on her is literally only good for one ability, and that's her ult, so not even a spammable one.

The recommended build on Trist may be completely worthless, but it's good for a laugh when I see someone follow it.

Auz the Ripper4 votes

Her E still Totally scales with AP, the problem lays with it dealing physical damage Her W also scales with AP AP trist is still decent and pretty hilarious. The only reason it isn't used is the late game is even worse than before her update because you can't itemize for penetration.

Champion Skin1 votes

And the removal of DFG also hurt AP Tristana quite a lot as AP Tristana really needs to get the kill when she goes in to either keep going or to get out

Rinky Dinky2 votes

Is still scales with AP numb nuts.

junglerboy162 votes

Probably a holdover from when those items were stackable gp10 items and carries stacked gold income so they could snowball faster (like philo stone+Kage's lucky pick+heart of gold+Avarice blade).

Picking up a nomads on Aram Poppy isn't half bad though, because it allows you to keep up in gold really well and get bigger items sooner. The active on Talisman is also VERY good on ARAM because you can only run in two directions: forwards and backwards, and Poppy loves going fast.

That and "every item is viable on Poppy"—Phreak 2014.

Champion Skin1 votes

And well the HP regen and mana regen isn't all that bad either And CDR and MS is pretty good as well

Partholonian2 votes

Several champions' recommended items were never cleaned up properly after the S4 support item changes, including reworking Shurelia's and Kage's into support items, which made them conflict with each other.

I do think one support item can be good on ARAM, because they're designed to be valuable in lanes where there is another champion in lane and you're not getting most of the CS, both of which have 100% chance to be true in ARAM. But Poppy would probably be better off pursuing the shield line instead of either of those; if she wants an active speedup (besides the one in her kit, that is) she can get Guardian's Horn or Righteous Glory (if it is buildable on ARAM).

Hellhammer2 votes

Poppy should start with a sheen, on Aram. for the first X amount of while you should passively play, the moment someone oversteps their boundry and you can E Q them into a wall do so, repeat this all game long while getting any farm that your team is most likely thinking isn't worth getting because its aram.

DeadlyQuestion2 votes

I think before they look at Poppy they need to think long and hard about healing in general in ARAM. They center the map around you not being able to heal very much, so that you can't infini-sustain... except wait a minute, your team consists of Sona, Vladimir, Soraka, Nidalee, and Garen? The game was over the minute those dice were rolled.

DeadlyQuestion2 votes

Oh, I completely misunderstood this post. Ignore my comment.

Silents4291 votes

She is next for a rework to the degree of what they did to Sion.

I don't see the point in doing anything about a build right now.

KaisadiIIa1 votes

Deceiving players to buy and sell and buy and sell random useless items isn't something justifiable just because "she's getting a rework".

Silents4291 votes

Why the ever loving fuck would they bother changing her page for a champion with 1.15% pickrate who is going to get changed and have a new build anyways? It's a waste of time, It's like giving a texture rebalance and a week later giving them a VU.

I Main Swain1 votes

they don't even recommend you get boots on vel'koz
