Of all the infinitely stacking champs, Thresh has the least interesting power curve.

Sion is unkillable lategame. Veigar oneshots lategame. Nasus onshots TOWERS lategame.

Thresh...? Hooks to win lane, hooks to win game. RIght now he's a "jack of all trades", he could be a hypercarry support and thus be unique if he had a slower and shorter Q level 1 and it scaled up with level up to 18, and had other lategame scalings (MR per level/soul? More souls on own and ally lasthits than ambient deaths? Box pitiful at rank 1 and gamechanging at rank 3?) We have no timebomb supp right now.

EDIT: How did y'all find this thread lol

You forgot to list Bard and his massive meeps item 3070

And yet Thresh is considered the all around best support. He doesn't need BUFFS at all. Besides, he ends up getting quite a lot of armor.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

I precisely mean to nerf his "all around" and replace it with an actual identity other than "replace any other supp".

Best princess EU1 votes

first, he isn't asking for a thresh buff, but a thresh rework

and no, fuck no thresh isn't the best support.

A year ago Thresh was way more dominant than he is today

Do you really want to add another mechanics into already overloaded with tons of mechanics kit? Thresh is the most overloaded and most overpowered support when it comes to what he can provide for his adc. Since his release, he still remains the most popular support and everybody can clearly see why. The only thing he doesn't provide to his adc is heal, other than that he can do just everything: pick targets, peel, get someone out of bad situation with lantern, provide a shield with his lantern, help his adc gap close with a lantern, he has very strong poke from E passive, and uses it's active to either push someone into your adc or away from your adc. Hell, he is even quite good at initiating team fights. I know, he's not the best in all of the things I just pointed out, but no other support is so versatile. Whenever you pick any support besides Thresh, you know you are going to lack something that can be very usefull. You pick Janna for peel and disengage, Blitz for picking targets, Alistar or Leona for teamfight engage. But Thresh? Yeah, his hook isn't as strong as Blitz's, yeah, he doesn't peel as good as Janna, he isn't either as good initiator as Leona or Alistar. But he provides all of this, not as just a crappy version of what supports mentioned above provide, because all of his skills are very, very strong. A lot of people will tell you: even if Riot decided to nerf his base ad to 20 at lvl 1, make all of his abilities base damage below 100, his ratios lower than 0.5, Thresh still would be picked.

Sakura Mirage2 votes

He remains popular because he is fun to play and not clunky as shit.

Count Zubat2 votes

I didn't say he is clunky. He is, how they call him: "jack of all trades" - has nearly everything, but isn't the best in any of these things. That doesn't mean he's bad, no, no, no, he is super strong and picked across all elos, as well as LCS. As for fun factor being reason for his popularity, I don't agree with that. If that was true, at least half of overall champion rooster would be played frequently by playerbase instead of about ~30 champs, because, let's be honest, there are a lot of champs that are just pure pleasure to play. He is picked because of his versality, and that versality alone makes his kit enjoyable by a lot of people, as it allows making some crazy plays.

Sakura Mirage1 votes

Ok if the reason he is picked isn't because he is fun why is lee sin picked a lot why is riven picked a lot why is zed picked a lot they are all deemed average at the moment because of the meta but they are still played lots how come? Because they are fun to play you don't really unlock your true potential because there is so many things about their kit that you can learn.

I propose this as a solution. I want room for my supps, I want power budget for AP and AD Thresh who got nerfed ridiculously. So replace his utility with an actual identity.

NERDSMASHER50005 votes

thresh's scaling isn't even relevant lmao

he gets armor to compensate for his lack of armor/level

and his AP ratios? LOL he does no damage early (save for his e passive) and he does no damage late

We have no timebomb supp right now.

Do you really want one...? You make a support too strong and then they can be abused in other lanes, then nerfed to oblivion.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

I mean we have 126 champs and that doesn't exist, variety dude. We don't NEED that, but we need ideas anyways.

KingKong23505 votes

Maybe so, but adding more to thresh's already awesome kit is not the right idea. The guy literally already takes the place of every other support on the roster, now you want to make him mandatory

Photos of Ghosts2 votes

I precisely mean to nerf his huge pass-all utility and give him instead something peculiar.

Slamurai Jack2 votes

We do have a ticking timebomb support. It's any mage support. A team with a Brand , Annie, or Vel'koz support has an enormous advantage if the game goes on long enough for them to get decent AP because now they essentially have another carry while the enemy team is stuck with a support champion.

Awoof1 votes

That's not really a timebomb, that's just having damage over utility. Leona, Blitzcrank, Janna etc. all have late game presences that can even out some more damage that comes later than anyone elses.

BluePolarizer1 votes

then your team lacks tankiness, CC or peel. It depends on your team comp.

If you have an immobile long range ADC Jinx Ashe KogMaw against a comp with low poke but alot of gapclosers, it is much better to have a 6 slotted Janna support than a 6 slotted Annie support.

Likewise if you have a squishy top or jungler, it is much better to have a 6 slotted Leona than a 6 slotted Brand.

KONO RUBICK DA2 votes

thresh doesn't need a buff, however his kit needs to be shifted into late game scalling to make him a unique support, like reducing his utility and making his passive and his E passive more interresting

A Miss Fortune3 votes

If Thresh is buffed I'm killing myself and taking CertainlyT with me.

But yeah, I agree, they need to change him up a lot. He's just viable no matter what. In any comp and against any comp. He has everything but a heal, and while he isn't toxic, is extremely overloaded.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

That's what I mean: not giving him an additional tool, but replace his polyvalence with an actual identity.

His souls are a worthless gimmick, I'd rather he just have scaling Armor and higher scaling abilities like a normal champ

You can't even power-farm souls even if you wanted to, it's soft capped to be at X stacks at Y time in the game

EcchiOtakuTM2 votes

Not cool excluding bard.

Also thresh needs normalized base armor and removal of the inf scaling armor.

Then they can move his E passive to be his normal passve since it emphasizes his "wait to make big plays" playstyle and would also lower his feeling of "overloaded" some people(not me) have.

LW wouldn't screw him over and he wouldn't have that big pro play advantage of not needing levels to gain armor(due to soul collection which made him a big support before the lw changes).

After they do that thresh will have a little more leeway on which skill he wants to start, not screwed over by lw(big issue), and slightly cut his "overloaded" feeling some have.

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Agreed. Or removing the AP scaling and giving him MR from souls instead, as well as the possibility to do some specific action to get more.

EcchiOtakuTM2 votes

Hell no to mr from souls. You don't need much to screw over mages granting him free mr instead would be an unnecessary buff and he'd become the only support not to mention he'd be another anti-mage who can still fight ad just fine.(looking at you galio <3)

His E's passive(which would become his new passive) and shield are enough to scale off souls just giving him base and scaling stats like a normal champion would suffice.

Cowgirl Ed1 votes

sion is shit, they gave him less health than almost all champs

SaltyToplaneGoat2 votes

Get cinderhulk. Have 9k hp lategame. I don't see the problem here.

disregardable1 votes

I'd argue Soraka as a champion that does significantly better in the late game than in the early game. I mean, she isn't the Veigar/Nasus late game, but she is really item dependent for a support.

Ironclad Dragon1 votes

I find it odd how Thresh's soul indicator says, "Value of next soul" when it doesn't ever change. Though honestly, if the value of his souls scaled with level, he'd become a tanky monster.

ChaosThief1 votes

If you played when thresh was released, it used to change every time he collected a soul. Then they regularized it, and now it's that.

I guess they could remove that.

Didn't know that. Learn something new every day.

ChaosThief1 votes

If you're curious on how it was originally, it was like 1 for both, and it scaled down. Eventually it gave around .2 AP and armor per soul. According to riot, this gave him too much early power so they changed it to what it is currently.

There are a lot of things you can learn about champions in olden times, like how ezreal's W used to have a heal scaling with AP.

It used to start with 1 and reducing over collection.

The Yetii Rider1 votes

He gets bonus magic damage on-hit based on the number of souls he collects. So, in theory, Thresh could one-shot people. It's just that he'd need a lot of magic penetration and attack speed to do so, which supports don't tend to build.

gaby1best1 votes

Are you really complaining about Thresh? The most picked support? The support that has it all?

Photos of Ghosts1 votes

Precisely. The support with no identity.

TotalJerk1 votes

How about we just remove the soul concept entirely and give him regular scaling armor and better ability point scaling?

Ulquiorra9951 votes

Thresh is fundamentally different from other stacking champions. He offers overwhelming amount of utility to the point that shutting Thresh wouldn't feel rewarding at all compared to, say, Veigar.

But if you shut down Veigar he does not oneshot anything late game. If you prevent Nasus from farming ne can only dream of ones hotting towers.

If you kill Thresh several times it won't matter, he still has enough utility to turn the game around.

We shouldnt have a timebomb supp. That doesnt make sense with the role supports fill.

Thresh's "infinite" scaling is not the same as Nasus, or Veigar (or to a lesser extent Sion). His is simply a thematic balancing for his kit, not about giving him more and more power as the game goes on.

Hypercarry support isn't an identity worth having, what would you even want them to do late game that's particularly powerful? Thresh isn't going to be a highly damaging support and scaling tankiness is already done, so...

People want their supports to be strong in the early game, that's why infinite scaling isn't properly explored among supports. People wouldn't pick a support with a bad early game in exchange for being really strong really late.
