It still makes sense because with the AI nerf on her plants you have to snare them to do any real damage anymore. Usually catching them once you have your ult is a death sentence for any squishy target.

So, a long range, fast moving, multi target root isn't good for catching? Ok.

Fast-moving? Zyra's E is literally the slowest cc projectile in the game.

For comparison, here's a list of missile speeds:

Zyra - 1150 Morgana - 1200 Blitz - 1750 Thresh - 1900 Bard - 1500 Ivern - 1300

Even non-"catchers" are faster:

Ashe R - 1600 Lux Q- 1200 Ahri E- 1600 Brand Q - 1550 Leona E - 2000 Amumu Q - 2000 Sejuani R - 1350

As mages go, Lux is basically the iconic Catcher. I have no idea why she wasn't Artillery > Catcher.

Hasn't that already been her role since being persuaded as a primarily support based champion though?
