I've seen in multiple threads that Thresh is going to be picked less now, but I'm not quite sure why.
Is it that he has no base Armor scaling and his passive counts as bonus Armor for the new LW? I mean at best you're only going to gain an extra 5% armor pen against him with new LW compared to old LW. I really don't think its going to make nearly enough difference to even be noticeable.

Do multiple sources of bonus armor pen stack? If they do then he's fucked in defenses. But that doesn't make him useless, it'll just mean he'll be squishy.

They do not. It's a unique passive. (Made another post in the thread if you are curious where it evens out. But basically amounts to he's still going to be very tanky.)

While this is true (it's a small increase in damage against him personally), other tank supports will be receiving noticeably less damage after the changes in comparison. I think that is the main issue.
His competition is becoming more durable in comparison to him.

Last Whisper now costs 1300g (Pickaxe+425g), gives 25 AD, and gives 30% bonus penetration. Last Whisper now has two upgrade options: One for dealing with tanks: Giving extra % phys damage against champions with more health than you. The other for dealing with healers, applying Grievous Wounds on hit for 5 seconds (GW reduces healing by 40% now)
In other words: If they just have Last Whisper, Thresh's defense was straight buffed.
If they finished one of the two upgrades, it's a buff if Thresh's bonus armor is less than 112, and a nerf if it's greater. (Still, Thresh is fairly problematic in that he does too many things and doesn't really pay much for it.)
That said, it's a fairly minor nerf. At 300 bonus armor, he's only lost about 10 armor, and still has 196 armor (down from 205~)

Zair Umbras1 votesIt's not 5-6% more, actually. Current LW is 35% and with the Masteries, you get up to 39% because it's multiplicative. ArP is becoming ADDITIVE and you can get 7% from Masteries, so you get 47% with LW and masteries, so you're getting an 8% boost in armor. An extra 8 per 100 armor on Thresh.
I'm not going to say it's a HUGE change or that it'll affect his pick rate, but eh. Yasuo gets to turn him into swiss cheese, but he already does that to anyone. lol.
