DynamicQ =/= Champ Select

Eedat··231 votes·5,072 views

I feel the need to point out that DynamicQ is not the same thing as the new Champ Select. I want to point this out because I have seen many, many people post on these boards under the assumption that they are one and the same. I want to clarify to everyone the difference between the two.

DynamicQ: being able to queue up in a group of 3-5 and the match making that deals with it

New Champion Select: being able to queue up with primary and secondary preferred roles

They are two separate entities that can exist without each other. So please do not try to use one to try to justify the other.

I partially blame Riot for this confusion as they released them at the same time and tried to make them seem like they go hand in hand together. And now for months and months we have to deal with people making arguments about one of the other that are false because the new champ select and DQ are completely different.

That was the point of releasing both of them at the same time. Now the general community is confusing the new champ select and DQ as the same thing and they can attribute anything new champ select solved to DQ.

I didn't know that Dynamic Que would have teams playing against solo players... but I never argued about that, I still hate the new Champ Select design. Its fitting for those who wish to play ranked, but it sucks the fun out of casual players. Where's the option to have everyone play mid just for the heck of it? Where's the option to place two top with two bot (no jungle)? This lack of freedom to even play with something like a Sandbox is depressing. Riot says they are working on a Sandbox but I don't want to wait until next year to see it. Wasn't it Warcraft's Sandbox that helped shape DoTA (and then DoTA 2 and League of Legends.... and games that follow)? I don't see what's so bad about it.

TL;DR This is about another game called VainGlory. Please read if you feel like it.

On the plus side, VainGlory is so alluring. So far, they don't release new Heroes every month, they do it every two months at best. They have good match making (not perfect). Their chests system is far better, just asking for you to do a task and you get a reward. You even get a better chest for every level up, up to 30 chests (each growing in quantity per every few level ups). Another chest system (called seasonal chests) is coming soon that just asks you to win a few matches to make the 8 hourly chest reward to give better rewards. And these chests give out everything, from cards and essence that help to get you skins, to SEMC's version of IP (which is Glory), to SEMC's version of RP (which is ICE), and even boosts to help you gain more Glory or Experience. They even have a Ranked system that if you solo, you can Rank up to get a trophy and keep it after each season is over or go duo (or trio) with friends in a guild to gain bonus Glory or even ICE after each season is over (not giving it out evenly, it gives it out based on how much you contribute to the team). Its ever growing, very rewarding, and seems to do what League lacks... it knows how to balance. Making sure every Hero is not too strong, and that each Hero can play its part. Its also very easy when there are only 24 Heroes (and one on the way sometime in July).

I haven't got to get into OverWatch, yet. I hear its great. Sadly, my Mac can't run the game, and I wouldn't want it to anyway. My Mac sadly didn't have to power to play League as much as I did and I ruined its battery and its Hard drive (having to get a new one). Lesson learned, never over use your laptop (even if it is a AlienWare).

PC advise; First, Apple can burn in hell. Second, premade PCs (such as Alienware) usually are highly-overpriced and usually are sacks of turd. Note that some PCs are ridiculously beefy at defaults as well, such as Asus (although, the one I had wound up forcing me to buy a separate charger and battery because its default plug disconnected internally).

On the flip-side, Blizzard's Overwatch is an insanely fast-paced FPS, and simply murdered the shit out of Halo 5 Guardians. Not to mention, it is SIMILAR to League of Legends, as it's a Hero-based game. The main differences is that there are no items to buy (other than cosmetics that are all free anyways...) and you can change hero mid-match if you're inside the spawnpoint. Of all this? The same company made a decent MOBA as well. I played a bit of Heroes, and it's okay I guess, considering the fact that my game malfunctioned and its lobby system didn't work on reinstall either.

Dream system; Games from Blizzard with a launcher-quality from League of Legends or Valve. Sorry for commercials, but yeah.

NOTE: THIS IS JUSTIFIED OVER SOMEONE ELSE'S QUESTIONS AND ANSWERING SAID QUESTIONS!!!

Thank you for the info. Sadly, I don't hate any computer company. I'm just too nice of a person. But, I'd honestly recommend a PC style computer to anyone unless more software are made available to Macs once more. Mac's are fun, but their Apps have lost their finesse and starting to feyness.

I still like my computer, but I'd like to get a PC just so I can get GameMaker. A easy to use game making software that I can use to make games. I'll keep my Mac so that I can upload these said apps to the Mac and iPhone app store. Just to see how they do... And so that anyone with a Mac on Steam can play just as anyone with a PC could.

Also, I feel retarded saying this... Nintendo has better games than most modern PCs. Games that last longer than most X-Box games. And games that are more colorful and rememberable than Playstation. PC can't go handheld, because its a computer, Androids are their own brand. X-Box has no handheld device, and PSPs don't sell well. Nintendo has a great market in handheld games. If you want to create games, do documents, or such then that's different. PC is the only reasonable choice. But, its PC that makes Nintendo stronger...

bluegolisano1 votes

Okay, for starters, the Apple thing was a bit of a joke. No hard feelings (JK). Second, all gaming platforms are run on PCs. To clarify the diffrence between Windows 7 and X-Box, here's how it works; ALL platforms use similar IF NOT IDENTICAL hardware. ALMOST NO platform has similar programming, which makes cross-plat. games INSANELY rare. As far as I know, only one game has actually gone cross-platform, and that's Rocket League. Note that 514 Dust is a side-game to EVE Online, and plays nothing like it's counterpart.

Main point: I WANT A CO2 COOLED X-BOX 1 THAT CAN RUN HALO WARS 2 INDEFIDANTLY ON 90 FPS!!!!

The point of releasing them at the same time is actually pretty logical, since they both were part of the Preseason 6 changes to the champ select experience. DQ was honestly just a piece of the larger new champ select. An impactful and controversial piece, but a piece all the same. It's fair enough to call the timing the reason for it, but you can't blame Riot that much, since it made sense.

franticFurball11 votes

Nope.

DynQ and the new Champ Select are 100% separate items, and also not dependent on one another in any way.

Proof? Here we go: At the very start of the Season, we had a bug that made DynQ unavailable...so the servers ran in the old configuration for several days BUT STILL INCLUDED THE NEW CHAMP SELECT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS.

TurquoiseYoshi3 votes

That's not what I said or was implying. I never said that they were one thing. I said that it made sense that they were packaged together. Let me put it this way: would it have been weird if in 5.22, the marksman champion reworks were done, and in 5.23, the item reworks came? Yes, yes it would. It wouldn't feel like a natural progression of changes. The champ select and DQ is no different.

franticFurball1 votes

...And because it makes sense, as a logical progression of changes. Blame Riot for everything if you want, but this was one thing that makes quite a bit of sense.

Jambajewz1 votes

I was under the impression that the reason they were released together was because they made a giant pile of changes for the new season, including both of these systems, and shipped them all at the same time just like they do at the beginning of every new season. I don't think they intended to use any benefit from one to justify the other before they shipped them, because that would mean that they anticipated dynamic queue to be terrible and almost universally hated. They just happened to get luck that that was a side effect when they found out how much the community doesn't like dynamic queue.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

The two are interrelated. If you keep new champ select but drop dynamic queue you will see queue times increase. When you get three mid/top people together in a party they are forced to accept different roles. When that happens the relative role diversity in the entire queue increases and games are easier to match.

THEY STILL INCLUDED THE NEW CHAMP SELECT WITH MASSIVELY INCREASED QUEUE TIMES AND EVERYONE WAS WHINING ABOUT IT.

I can type in all caps too.

franticFurball3 votes

If you keep new champ select but drop dynamic queue you will see queue times increase.

No, you won't. Assembling groups of 5 out of a pool of 1s is, algorithmically speaking, easier than building them from groups of varied size.

When you get three mid/top people together in a party they are forced to accept different roles.

You do know that that's not even possible, right? You cannot queue a 3 man with only 2 roles picked, the client doesnÄt allow it. You can't even queue a duo with only 2 roles. Try it if you don't believe me.

When that happens the relative role diversity in the entire queue increases and games are easier to match.

No, it doesn't. Again, you assemple parties of 5s from a pool pf varied sized pieces.

#The only people whos queue time goes up in soloQ with new champ select, are the people who play only the high demand roles.

And that was never a problem, because people playing those are used to the wait.

Jambajewz1 votes

I thought you could queue a duo with only two roles, like bot/sup, so that you could be guaranteed to play with your duo partner if you're a bot lane duo. I thought I'd done that before, but now I'm starting to wonder since it's been at least a month since I queued with someone else.

franticFurball2 votes

I thought I'd done that before

A team has to pick more DIFFERENT roles than it has players, unless its a team of 5.

Jambajewz1 votes

Shows how much I actually queue with people I guess.

Partially? This confusion is entirely Riot's fault, and they are not helping by saying things like this:

"I don't know why everyone keeps saying they're separate things. We built a new system. People are calling half of it one thing, and half of it another. How come no one is referring to the "new premade lobby" and "new draft bans" as separate systems as well?"

To muddle facts and confuse people into thinking they don't mind DQ as long as it provides them the benefits of NCS.

I saw lot of post being rude to Macromite, well he was rough so it's okay.

What he wanted to say is that there's 3 things actually, 2 who's closely correlated to queue time and with who you'll be matched with and one who have nearly nothing to do with it.

so let me list the three things :

1. Being able to be matched with premades of 1,2,3,4 or 5 and to fill gap to make a team of 5 commonly what I'll call Dynamic queue

2. Being able to select primary and secondary role before being matched with the DQ (point1) I'll call that Role selections.

3. New champion select, which enable you to show what champion you would like to play, the role the game purpose you trough your pre-selected (should show both role), the new ban mechanism and a brand new design.

Queue time are directly affected by role selections, and the people you'll be matched with too (you can't be five mid or five top) which means not only premade affect who you'll be queued with.

That's the beauty of DYNAMIC queue.

It should have been called "TEAM queue" or "PREMADE queue" to reduce possible misunderstandings, but crafty corporates from Rito HQ gone with sneaky bullshit.

I like Dynamic Q.

I have had immensely more fun playing with and staying connected to my IRL friends because of it.

It is a much better system, one that focuses primarily on rewarding teamwork instead of individual achievement. And one that I truly believe is both helpful and great for this game.

I like Dynamic Q. I have had immensely more fun playing with and staying connected to my IRL friends because of it.

More fun? Isn't Dynamic Q essentially the same as normal draft? just with some shiny numbers at the end of the game (they kind of exist in normal blind as well though there MMR/LP is hidden)

Parceval1 votes

In my opinion, and that of my friends, ranked is a superior experience to normal draft. The measurement of skill and increased competitiveness is just a more enjoyable challenge all around.

Champion Skin1 votes

Well yes it is more competitive because shiny ranked stuff Though also probably because you view it as more competitive and always do your best which means you probably have higher ranked MMR than normal MMR

macromite1 votes

false. dyna is both of those. new champ select is showing pick intent and having bans go to the three player at the bottom.

i mean, those last two things are oft forgotten, mostly because they aren't part of dyna queue so they are not mentioned. in all reality the friends part isn't even part of dyna queue, that's the new lobby. it doesn't have to work as hard to get premades together, the dynamic part is the role selection.

Is it clear enough for you, you've been die-harding this view in every thread that says the DQ sucks. You are the one who is ignorant of which is which, not the rest of the player-base.

Imagine the old draft pick, but not just solo/duo or 5 man, and was able to queue up with as many friends as you want. That's Dynamic Queue.

The new draft pick, is just a new champ select/ban phase.

macromite1 votes

looking at this physically hurts me. that isn't dynamic queue. that isn't the part that is dynamic. the dynamic part, is the role selection.

I Like Things 6 votes

You're daft. Go away.

I remember testing the new champ select screen on the PBE, it was originally proposed as a replacement for the NON RANKED DRAFT QUEUE only to be shoehorned in at the last second as a replacement for Solo Q, not once was it intended to replace Solo Q when they ran the test phases on the PBE.

Riot could have easily left Solo Q / Team Queue (5v5 ranked teams) / and Normal Draft with the new champ select in play but instead they chose to kneecap Solo Q and completely eviscerate 5v5 ranked team queue ... with what we have now.

Hopefully this post helps your tiny mind understand why you're so very wrong about everything you think you know about dynamic queue.

Reading your comments physically hurts me. Go read up on exactly what dynamic queue is, and if you can find even one source backing up your claims then I will be suprised.

macromite1 votes

I already asked for sources here, you are late to that punch.

Ronan Samurai6 votes

Holy shit are you that clueless. Dynamic Queue can still use Regular Draft Pick and Still be Dynamic Queue. New Champ Select features actually selecting roles/champ/lane. Dynamic Queue is just a...Ranked Queue in which you can queue up 2/3 1/4 or 5 man. There are Queue types and Champion Select types. Okay? Both are separate entities.

Noxid Lyrrad1 votes

I would say that picking two roles is definitely not part of champ select for the simple fact that you don't pick a champion at that time. There's picking your roles + DyQ -> champ select. Yes, champ select and DyQ are not the same, but what you described there occurs along with the DyQ phase.

6KEMBE4ORBA3 votes

There are 2 working systems currently which obviously can be separated because Riot already did it earlier in this season.

  • the ability to que with multiple ppl.

  • new champ select with pre-defined roles. You pre-determine 2 roles before you go in champ select only cause the new CHAMP SELECT itself is designed and requires these pre-determined roles.** So the pre-determined roles component is actually part of the NEW CHAMP SELECT.**

You might as well call the first one "A" and the second one "B". Your choice, but I think common sense + logic works better.

Blanchimont2 votes

They two not related. New champion select works just fine on its own. You queue up for the role you want to play. They could have expanded this to the other modes as well, but they only have it for Ranked which is silly.

Queue times have already increased for players who are at a higher elo because of fewer players who play certain roles. The result is that they're often missing players in certain roles like support, which much fewer people play. It's only better at the lower tiers because there are more players to go around compared to Diamond or Challenger, but the lower tier games have also become much more one sided. Games are already awful when you have players at the lower end of a tier (say Platinum 5) and at the higher (Platinum 1) end of a tier playing against each other. Yet, matchmaking somehow thinks that this is balanced.

However, shorter queue times is not always the best, especially when you sacrifice the competitive aspect of it in exchange for faster queue times. I'd much prefer three minute queues over a thirty second one if the game was actually fair. Games are usually over by the fifteen minute mark when there is a higher tier player on one team unless someone disconnects or something.
