Can we get a redo on Victorious Maokai?

I know I'm not the only one who is massively disappointed in Maokai being picked. Isn't the point of the Victorious skin to be a champ that was relative in competitive the entire season? Maokai was a flavor for like a month at the end of spring split and beginning of Summer split.

Just off the top of my head here are some champs that deserve it way more than him:

Probably missed a few but thats just off the top of my head.

Having finally reached Gold this season I have to admit this is a huge let down. There were so many good options and you picked a super binary, boring as hell, out-of-meta champ. Sorry to sound salty but to be perfectly honest I really am. What a disappointment.

I agree, Maokai is a huge let down. I haven't seen even one in the entire season of ranked, not even in these periods you mentioned, and I have been in gold for a while now. I don't even see the guy in normals. I thought the point of these victorious skins were to get champions that influenced the ranked season. Maokai certainly didn't. Like, sure, it's fine to give the guy a skin, it's not like Maokai doesn't deserve any skin, just not the victorious one. This is seriously the third year in a row that I am dissapointed by the victorious skin, but I didn't complain about Sivir or Morgana because at least they made sense to be picked! Maokai just doesn't make sense. Going by the order (which since they already got 5 skins they could say screw the order), they'd need a top champ and that means Darius or Ekko seemed very obvious, which would have still sucked for me 'cause I hate Darius, but at least it would make sense! Now I'm going to get Maokai forced into my pool of champions. I'm never playing ARAM again.

At least Morgana was visually distinct and interesting. The Sivir skin is about as unique and interesting as a potato. Very similar to the warden skin only the chakrams have a duller, even less practical edge and it has a slightly a better color scheme. No new particle effects or anything, not like those would have been cool....

Was honestly kinda hoping they'd give the Victorious skin to an ADC and actually do it right or give it to somebody like Twisted Fate who has a ton of skins but only one or two with interesting particle effects. Or maybe give it to Viktor or Cass who have had a tremendous impact but haven't had skins in years. Seriously why would they pick a set known for pretty armor and give it to a tree? Especially when that tree already has a skin with a yellow cat-themed onesie.

Unless you're talking about Sivir's old splashes, her Victorious Splash was spot on. If she isn't your choice for a champion, that's fine but then it's your opinion on the quality of it, not a fact.

Well, I personally feel Victorious Viktor would have been a much better choice due to him being an all around strong Competitive pick and just stands for a staple mid laner. He's exciting to watch, has a ton of outplay potential and really needed a new skin.

But either way, I'm fine with it being Maokai, seeing that I like playing tanks :9

They announced a while back that viktor, Graves and Gravas won't get Victorious skin this season. But why Maokai ... There have been way better (and may more gamechanging?) toplaners around the season.

I had all my hopes on a victorious karma skin, as she got picked quite frequently in the pro scene. I knew it wasn't very likely to happen since the last sup who received a victorious skin was morgana (although she could count as a midlaner), but I can't really understand why it's maokai, although I'm fine with him too, but other champs deserved this years victorious skin a lot more.

Don't forget: Shen has been a VERY popular pick because he meshes so well with so many comps, and his global presence gives him that edge. He would have also been an amazing Victorious skin.

What's the point of these complaints? It doesn't really matter who gets picked for a Victorious skin. His mains or people who like to play him will be OK with it while the rest would curse at Riot for "having" better choices or because it's not their favorite champion who is getting one.

Because Victorious Skins are supposed to be for champions that impacted the Ranked season for the year. Maokai did not.

But he did. All throughout this season he's been a staple top lane pick, it's only been in the last few months that he's been knocked out of there and it takes time for Riot to make these skins, they aren't going to choose the champion based on who suddenly became meta two months ago.

Exactly. When Mao received his MR buff and sapling duration buff, he got picked again as a top laner. I am sure it was this season but months ago.

And skins take ~6 months to make which is why it is almost ALWAYS based off an early summer split champion. Sivir was pretty "meh" around Worlds but destroyed the late Spring/early Summer split with her "Sivir Comps". Morgana was also mainly a factor in preseason 4 when she was hardly nerfed and was able to just W the first wave for the fastest level 2 bot lane and then just all in due to how much spelltheif's did for her back then.

Do you realize how long it takes to finish such a skin? Maokai was kinda influential during the spring split and the design team clearly thought it would remain as an effective pick. Truth to be spoken, there are many champs who have influenced the meta more than Mao. However, I'm rly content with him getting this skin.

We have 2 Supports, 1 Adc, 1 Jungler and 1 Top/Jung (not sure what Jarvan was back then). So it should have been Mid this season no ? Quite a lot players in this community expected Viktor this season ... Mhm, not mid okay. Top then, okay. Yasuo is the most played Top laner but also the most banned, okay. So Gnar .. popular, nearly never banned, seen pretty much at Worlds nowadays. Ayyyy perfect pick: GNAR. But noo, we have to get 10th most unpopular champ in the game. RIP -_-

Ekko and Viktor really deserved it this season. They are (or at least were) picked extremely often and are 2 of the champions that really influenced S6. But being a bronze pleb myself, I dont care that much. However, it does suck for the people who are gold and higher seeing that a champion that was fotm gets picked.

That is literally how every "meta" pick usually is. Viktor, Kalista, the ryze before this one, Mordekaiser, Gangplank, Darius, Skarner, Fiora, and Ekko have all been picked because of how unhealthy their kits have been at their prime and not because they were necessarily exciting to watch.

You'll notice that the Victorious skins are never given to champs that Riot doesn't like because of balance issues. Rek'Sai has been dominant for a long time but Riot has HATED having to constantly nerf her because of how she is in the pro scene. They neither like nor wish to acknowledge the impact that poorly balanced champs make to the meta.

Why are people acting as if this is the last skin that is ever getting released? It's a free skin, a gift and the chances of it going to the champ you want were tiny. Just deal with it or stop being cheap and buy a skin for the champ you want instead.

That's pretty incorrect. Victorious skins are seen as a reward for reaching gold+. They are rare because you can never buy them, and it only comes out for one champion every ranked season. You dont just go and buy a skin for the champion you want. The problem isn't that we are getting it for a champion we dont like, the problem is Maokai doesn't even fit the requirements of a victorious skin, there are more than a dozen champions more deserving.

This is the skin thats a REWARD for getting to gold+.

This skin is the reason many work toward Gold in the first place, and for most its a huge let down for them to realize its a champ they'll never play.

I cant be the only one that thinks Irelia deserves this skin. She has no 1350 rp skins, and shes been around forever. She has also been huge this season, between rageblade and the new tf. Just my .02. Anyone agree?

Personally I think would have made wayyy more sense if they were going to do a top laner. (Hecarim maybe not so much, I just like him. Same deal for Rumble.) Other Champs that weren't topside that would makes sense would be- (Yasuo did see top play too) Honestly this is the first Victorious skin I don't like, Sivir was meh but she wasn't bad, had I actually placed last season I would have been fine with her. I guess it's just a bummer the year I placed again the Victorious skin is for a champion I find boring.

Ya, I can definitely see some of the champion's mentioned above being a much better option for a victorious skin other then Maokai .

Some of these champs like Malzahar Rumble Vladimir Shen Hecarim , maybe Kindred being a bit season specific but still played a lot.

Some other champions worth mentioning are Ekko Graves Yasuo Kindred which although worthy of being victorious, may of been excluded due to how unhealthy they were to the game, especially Ekko .

Also, +1 for thinking of poppy and gangplank. Poppy was played mostly all season after her rework and was spammed, especially in high level of play, and probably still would be played if not for Kennen and Jayce spam.

Yeah I personally like Maokai, but he's barely been relevant in the summer split. They usually pick champions that are meta for Summer Split/worlds so Maokai makes no sense. It's baffling.

Morgana Mid. Sivir Adc. Janna Sup. JarvanIV Jun/Top. Maokai Jun/Top. A dedicated tank/Ap tank, while J4 is a AD/Ad tank.
