Why is Gangplank Always Banned?

HIs banrate in worlds is crazy right now, how come is he so banned?

Can someone explain why because I can't see Gangplank doing good against some of the other top laners, and his global is kinda meh if you ask me.

I understand Morde being banned cause of the dragon thing, and just how crazy strong he is in general, but why Gangplank? I feel like that's such a waste of a ban.

Is he really that strong? I never had a problem with gangplank on my main.

Stop wasting your bans on him!

The global ult alone would be enough to pick him in Worlds... that kind of presence makes for coordinating super easy ganks in other lanes. He can wrack up assists/kills with absolutely no effort. So even if he's doing bad in lane, he just throws out an ult for free gold. (Also, he farms up his gold like a beast.)

In teamfights, his barrels do ridiculous amounts of damage. Maybe you haven't faced any good GP's yet, but he can be an absolute nightmare in solo queue as well.

Safe hyper late game fighter with the Lee Sin effect. It doesn't matter how skilled you are, it all depends on Gangplank's skill. If he's a bad Gangplank you win, if he's a master Gangplank you lose. Can't risk it on chance.

you saw those Jinx AoE-Crits winning the game? now add even bigger AoE-Crits that add a massive slow and a global Ultimate to that...

you saw those Jinx AoE-Crits winning the game? now add even bigger AoE-Crits that add a massive slow and a global Ultimate to that...

jinx crit are point and click, gp barrels have way more counterplay

you´ve never witnessed a good GP - there´s no way dodging the barrel-chains lategame. They have a lot of counterplay early on, which is why good GPs usually will just farm up...but mid to lategame they get out of hand more and more.

Egh, sadly I know exactly what you're talking about. My recent placement match, the GP on their team was insane. Those barrels just kept coming.

his farming in lane is incredible save, after reaching two items he can junk prettymuch an entire team for 50% of their health with a single barrel crit, his ult allows him to contribute to fights while still farming up, he get's 1000+ free gold from his Q, End game a single barrle crit can win a fight befor it even started... Also, he more often is played midlane, as he's super save in the short lane if provided with blue to constatnly clear waves with E+Q. You might not have much problems with GP cause you need to play a bit around him as a team, give him the time to scale up and proivde safty from ganks/dives by jungle presense/vision, and he is rather hard to play, as you need to be really good at chaining those barrels.

no, it's just because it's the previous patch which is played on world and gangplank was op

Let's just say this. If you took away his ult, he would still have AOE armour shredding burst, ranged poke, a CC curing heal, movement and zoning control, wave clear, and true damage.

Now.

Give him an ult which.

Denies tower dives, Denies split pushing Clears waves, ensures all in trades Wins team fights. Assists ganks

AND IS GLOBAL

His wave clear and farming potential in lane is insane plus the ridiculously high amount of armor pen his barrels give him is just stupid and will destroy a team if they lose track of the barrels

Difference is that GP has few, if any, major weaknesses. When played ideally, he:

-Can't be caught out (he's K) -Has great waveclear -Has ridiculous poke -Has great all-ins -Has a global presence -Is completely safe vs almost anything in lane

Weaknesses? -No dash -Has periods of vulnerability (oranges have CD) -Thats about all i got
