Why don't we have an actual AD mage?

By AD mage, I mean a champion that benefits from building pure AD without attack speed or crits, that isn't an ADC, and that isn't an assassin or a bruiser either.

The closest things we have to AD mages are Ezreal Jayce Urgot Pantheon. However, Ezreal is an ADC, Jayce can to a certain extent be considered an ADC too, and Urgot and Pantheon both can be built as bruisers and still benefit from that.

Why don't we have something like the AP mages, but that benefits from AD?

I would consider Jayce much more of an AD mage than an ADC.

Not too mention, we don't have any champs that build 100% AP.

lots of champions do but they still have base ad

Nope, they also build mana, mag pen, movespeed, on hit effects, armor, and magic resist.

An "ad mage" would have to be melee, otherwise they would just be a caster adc. And then it would just be a bruiser or an assassin because you can't be a melee without having either mobility or tankiness.

Jayce is NOT an AD carry. Only time he uses auto attacks is last hitting, and the occasional W poke.

You generally just go flat AD / armor pen / CDR. Which when doing this. MAKES YOU AN ATTACK DAMAGE MAGE.

Same goes for Urgot, you never really auto attack enemies. Since all of his damage is tied to his E/QQQ combo.

Ezreal is only an ADC when he builds ADC. If you stack up on nothing but AD, Armor Pen, and CDR, he's an AD Caster at that point, aka an AD Mage.

The keyword for everything else at that point is "can".

Talon and Katarina are the closest you'll get right now, but yeah they're both assassins (AD Katarina is hilarious and weird and slightly dysfunctional, although it used to be meta)

well it was meta when her Q scaled only off her AD and her ult scaled with either AP on AD depending on whichever was the highest value

A champ that does great damage with AD is per definition an ADC. An actual AD mage is an ADC too.

A mage per definition has ability range, AoE damage, zone control and utility.

As such Gangplank could be considered an secondary AD mage. Urgot too.

I guess an AD mage will always be some kind of Fighter or Marksman, because od the strong auro attack.

But a dedicated Fighter/Mage or Marksman/Mage with AD scaling and little AP scaling could be an interesting concept.

Malzahar is the closest thing we have. He scales with cdr, armor pen, and pure ad because his main damage source cannot crit or lifesteal for him.

i build urgot ad mage ish. item 3042 item 3508 item 3078 (or item 3071 ) item 3072 item 3047 (depending on the situation some thing for armor and defense though rarely i do. or item 3040 because muramana is my first item its done before 30 mins and i already have a tear of the goddess that i can build to item 3003 asap or not and have it later so i get a sheild and 2000 mana to scale with both passives.) spamming q and tossing e with a basic attack that heals a 1/5 of your hp every attack in between casts and a sheild or 1/3 of your hp and another for 1/8 approximately its real hard for enemies to even get to me and i can take out bruisers out of the fight or any one cc heavy for the duration of my ult and have lots of focus on him

I have always thought Azir should be an AD mage. His soldiers use spears!
